Shaders Not Valid (mismatch of exe & Data?)

Recommended Posts

HI all,

Installing on a notebook DuoCore 2GB Ram Intel 945GM 256MB video, XP Pro SP2.

I get the following error when starting ArmA: Shaders Not Valid (mismatch of exe and data?)

Any ideas?

Cheers

Well, since most components in laptop computers are fixed and not modular like there desktop counter-parts, it would make it a tad bit harder to upgrade. I've owned two laptops in my lifetime but had no intention on upgrading parts, so I am not sure how you can go on to do this. I've had Dells and people have told me that I can simply send it back to Dell via mail by support. They would in turn upgrade requested parts for a fee.

Also, if you're able to do this, you should checkout Nvidia and ATI's websites to see which videocards support pixel shader and not only that, but have good speed and memory. I would personally put price aside (not a bogus amount) considering how tough laptops are to upgrade and not having to do it more then once in its life span.

Here is a list of personal preferences on video cards.

You can upgrade your notebook card under rare circumstances.

- It must be a real AGP / PCIe card. No onboard chip.

- The power unit of the notebook must be sufficient for a stronger card.

- Be aware that you might lose your warranty when you do this on your own.

In most cases it is not possible to upgrade a card, and in the rare ocasions where it is possible it is very cost intensive and the performance you get in the end will still be disappointing. I do not recommend it.

As far as I know, what you are saying is only true if the laptop already has a graphics card. As there is no standard for laptop motherboards, manufacturers tend to cut down on unnecessary parts if they don't need them.

I think the shader error can also be caused by launching the beta version incorrectly (try the shortcut, read the readme.txt).

However with a laptop it's very likely that you don't have a decent GPU.

(Doesn't GM in 945GM stand for Graphics Media, as in Integrated Graphics Media)

Just tell the modelnumber and make of the laptop and we can see for ourselves.

You may have to back up and overwrite the bin directory in ArmAwork\ with the contents of the bin directory in ArmA\
