UKFMav 0 Posted March 7, 2007 I noticed that in ArmA, when you have to do a river crossing or something, or even just swimming from ejecting as a pilot or something; After you've been swimming for a few metres, your weapon disappears and so does all the kit in your inventory. Now clearly this isn't meant to be like this as no soldier would -ever- manage to lose their weapon while swimming. Rifle slings are used and river crossing drills are practiced often in the armed forces so in the situation where it a soldier is required to swim, he's not totally useless at the end of it. This bug ruins any aspirations of marine based warfare that I'm sure many people had, hope it's not such a hard one to fix! Mav
mattxr 9 Posted March 7, 2007 Yeah it is a bit stupid to loose your weapons but its not a bug, they made it like that
UKFMav 0 Posted March 7, 2007 LOL! Just like they made the randomly exploding helicopter bug intentional too. --EDIT-- On re-reading your post, you're not being serious are you, by the way?
Jonny_2LI 0 Posted March 7, 2007 I agree 100%, river crossing drills are well taught and practiced, your weapons slung tight across you're body if its not resting ontop of your Bergen/Day Sack that's commonly used as a floatation aid (understandably not here). I could understand Farmer Jack loosing his 12 gauge whilst treading water, but not a professional soldier and this feature severely impacts what could be a great addition to Amphibious CRW units. Picture a Seal Team operator addon, after a parachute decent into the ocean swims silently to a ladder hanging down from the oil rig laiden with terrorists, he scales the ladder in the dead of night and gets to the top. He goes to grab the weapon slung across his... Wait, ahh crap its now on its way to the sea bed... I think we should atleast have the option to disable this with a game logic or somthing. UKFMav 0 Posted March 7, 2007 lol mate, nah I think Matt must have been joking. But if he wasn't....then I will be uh...very surprised to say the least!
Jonny_2LI 0 Posted March 7, 2007 I hope it is a bug because its an unfortunate side affect to an otherwise brilliant achievement over OFP.
5133p39 16 Posted March 7, 2007 It is not a bug, it really is a feature. Maybe it should be reworked, so it would take more time in water before the unit starts to "throwing away" its gear - if you want, you can post your carefully elaborated thoughts in the ArmA Wish List. UKFMav 0 Posted March 7, 2007 I really can't understand why that would be put in intentionally though, it doesn't make sense at all...
Kode 0 Posted March 7, 2007 can you swim with a backpack and holding weapons in both hands?(I won't be able to do that )
Sergei_Q 0 Posted March 7, 2007 It's realistic. Maybe G.I. Joe would swim across a river in full combat gear but not Joe Average. You won't lose your pistol, so you're not completely unarmed. As for Special Forces, I'm sure it can be scripted into mods. We've had combat divers in OFP, why not in ArmA?

We've had combat divers in OFP, why not in ArmA? bit of advice, you're preaching to the wrong crowd if you're trying to tell Mav and Jonny what a soldier can and cannot do in a river crossing. I'm sure I told you both that it was a 'feature' - one which I hope for the modding side of things can be enabled and disabled in the config (seems like a sensible way to approach it to me)
KJAM 0 Posted March 8, 2007 I'm pretty sure BIS meant for the swimming to be a last resort (Bailing out of an aircraft, escaping and evading enemies) and so loosing most of your equipment might be simulating that.
maruk 80 Posted March 8, 2007 This is by design and believe me that it was after very careful investigation of the problem and research done. Swiming with full gear is not realistic feature at all and as such it's not possible in game. Of course, it's always a compromise. This is the closest we can get to realistic implementation and it all also has gameplay consequences. There's still a plan to make this adjustable in unit config for modmakers as soon as we have time for it. I am closing this topic in troubleshooting as there's nothing to troubleshoot. I would be also surprised if it's not already discussed.
