mailor 0 Posted February 28, 2007 Hi. Don't you think, that it is kind of weird, when you "hold your breath" in sniping mode, the character starts to breath like a locomotive immediately?

l mandrake 9 Posted February 28, 2007 is it me or can you also hold your breath indefinitely?
bravo 6 0 Posted February 28, 2007 Hi.Don't you think, that it is kind of weird, when you "hold your breath" in sniping mode, the character starts to breath like a locomotive immediately? definitely. I agree, its kinda exagerated and boring.. though i changed the breath key but it would be more usefull if the general aim was much better like in OFP, looks like we have a HD weapon in our hands. As if nothing hit what we point. would be nice if the aim was better and more precise and only then the holding breath would have more sense and utility. The idea of holding the breath is good, just need to be improved and changed abit to be apreciated for lots of fans. edit: typo
whisper 0 Posted February 28, 2007 As far as I've seen, you are more precise for a short period of time, as your sight doesn't move anymore. After that you're character can't hold his breath anymore (hency the heavy breathing, but it starts too fast), and you can let go the "hold breathe" key. But for me, the precision gain is noticable, for long range shooting at least
bravo 6 0 Posted February 28, 2007 when we are in prone position.. the aim should be more precise then it is once we have support for both arms the aim should be better even without the holding breath. I really think its anoying when we have the aim right in the target and when we fire it hits every where near but the center. so the weapon aim is there for nothing i suppose.. (don't tell me the wind make that slittly trajectory, even if we have no wind.. ) With the holding breath we should be able to aim better while we are in stand up position and the hit should be very precise and it isn't.. in my opinion both needs improvement. (aiming and holding breath)
whisper 0 Posted February 28, 2007 And if I'm honest myself, I found OFP weapons way too precise back in the days More a question of taste, I guess
wamingo 1 Posted February 28, 2007 Imo it's just a bit out of balance in the current form. You only get a second or so to line up after you start to hold breath and 1 second is not nearly enough to make a decently accurate shot and it takes far too long to get out of the locomotive breathing. They need to balance this a bit more or maybe they should go with the Americas Army approach which is not too bad. Well, I played it 2 years ago, I don't know if it has changed since. AmericasArmy at least "had" an automatic breath cycle when you hold the Hold-Breath Button. 0.5s inhale and sight moves up, 1.5s hold, 0.5s exhale sight moves down, and another short hold and repeat - or something along those lines anyway. Maybe dyslexic wrote something about a good approach... /me goes checking.
M9ACE 0 Posted February 28, 2007 I would like to see the amount of time you have when you hold your breath to be a bit longer than it is currently by at least a factor of two.

Easy_tiger 0 Posted February 28, 2007 its getting on my nerves breathing like a phone sex pest everytime i take aim Also with sniping, isnt it a recognised technique to exhale all air from your lungs prior to firing to enhance accuracy?
Dallas 9 Posted February 28, 2007 its getting on my nerves breathing like a phone sex pest everytime i take aim  Also with sniping, isnt it a recognised technique to exhale all air from your lungs prior to firing to enhance accuracy? Assign hold breath to another key, then you can enable it or hold it precisely when you need to.

NeMeSiS 11 Posted February 28, 2007 It seems like the 'holding breath' is tied to the stamina, so i guess holding your breath tires you just like sprinting does (but way too quick)
bravo 6 0 Posted February 28, 2007 so we need more stamina? if so.. ill take 2 pills of stamina plz.
orson 0 Posted February 28, 2007 This was anoying for me in Ofp too , what i did was locate the .wss file for the breathing and replace it with the same length recording of silence . no more sound of a fat asthmatics wearing a gas mask while having a wank should be a simlar method available in Arma allthough this may conflict while in multi-player ? Balschoiw 0 Posted February 28, 2007 I guess you are not really getting the point. You don´t really hold your breath as your heart does go upbeat if you do so and you loose more than you gain. As it is implemented ingame it´s more a flat breathing that keeps your aim steady as you don´t inflate your lungs with the full capacity, a technique trained to keep you from the heart upbeat and to increase the steadiness of your aiming. The expression "hold breath" was probably used to shorten the expression as "flat breathing" would only cause confusion. You can test it yourself. Take a broomstick, attach a pencil and put a sheet of paper on a wall. Then aim with holding your breath for a while. You´ll see an elyptical expression that is getting bigger the longer you hold your breath. Try the same with flat breathing and see that the elyptical movement stay steady over time if you do it right. Hope you understand the effect now. I guess it´s implemented pretty well ingame. BDamage 0 Posted March 1, 2007 Sniping is allmost dead-on accurate, "flat breath" works. Just dont keep that "hold breath" button pressed for longer than couple seconds at a time and your fine. In RL situation, you would take your aim first, and breath easy, waiting for the right moment while listening to your heart beat. Just when the target is at correct spot, you would exhale and at the very second your lungs are empty a gently squeeze on the trigger.
