Bunkers 0 Posted February 9, 2007 I recently bought a new PC with Vista. I bought the download german version of the game back in desember and played it on my old XP PC. Now if i download the arma files to my new Vista computer I can install it but not run it. It says: "File not found D3DX9_30.DLL". I've sent a mail to the online distributor but not got a reply yet. Bunkers 0 Posted February 9, 2007 Sickboy, you're the man! Thank you! Problem solved. I only added "Vista PC" in the title in case it was relevant.

Bunkers 0 Posted February 10, 2007 I see you have 8800GTX and Vista like me. I wonder what are your 3D settings like? I get great fps and can run very high quality graphics, but it's quite grey and unclear in a distance. Almost like fog. Makes it hard to identify. I've compared my screens to my previous pc and it's very noticable. Even with my viewdistance much higher than before. I'm puzzled. I get great fps and can run very high quality graphics, but it's quite grey and unclear in a distance. Almost like fog. Makes it hard to identify. We have seen this before and most likely it seems like a driver bug (bad SRGB conversion with a fog). It is quite likely some newer drivers will fix it. Meanwhile, you can work around the issue by changing a line in ArmA.cfg line from <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">HDRPrecision=8; To <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">HDRPrecision=16;

Bunkers 0 Posted February 10, 2007 Ok, thanks for the reply but where do I find my arma.cfg file? Couldn't see it in my ArmA folder.. sorry I'm not as competent on my computer as most ppl in here are.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted February 10, 2007 Ok, thanks for the reply   but where do I find my arma.cfg file? Couldn't see it in my ArmA folder.. sorry I'm not as competent on my computer as most ppl in here are. Its in the ArmA folder in your 'my documents' folder. (Which i find quite annoying as every game seems to have the habit of putting crap in that folder)
Bunkers 0 Posted February 10, 2007 Thanx again   there it was! Now what program do I need to edit it? (hopefully my last question on this matter.. ) EDIT: No wait! I got it. Nevermind that last question. But thanx to all for your help on my issues. You guys on this forum are great!
Bunkers 0 Posted February 12, 2007 Now I've changed my ArmA.cfg file from HDRPrecision=8; to HDRPrecision=16; but I still got some serious "fog" issues. http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/8200/armafogyc1.jpg and http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/2151/armafog2ih9.jpg  otherwise it runs very smooth on very high settings. Jack-UK 0 Posted February 12, 2007 Did the CFG file revert to HDR= 8? If it did right click the CFG and check the Read Only box on properties.
Bunkers 0 Posted February 13, 2007 Did the CFG file revert to HDR= 8?If it did right click the CFG and check the Read Only box on properties. No it said HDR=16 when I read it again. I checked the Read Only box when I did it the first time, on your advice.
desertfox 2 Posted February 13, 2007 Can you exclude a mission-parameter related issue ? I mean did you test it in a clean environment like the editor, with the weather/fog setting to 100% clear, same time of the day and zero overcast ? I see a player disconnecting on one of the screenshots.
Bunkers 0 Posted February 13, 2007 Yes. When I've tried different 3D settings in my NVIDIA control panel, I've tested this in the editor. It's not a completely "static" fog, it changes color and density while I play. It's really strange..
jantenner 0 Posted February 14, 2007 i would suggest to keep a tuned win xp lite installation for arma, as vista is quite a system hog with really no benefit to gaming at the moment
sickboy 13 Posted February 14, 2007 i would suggest to keep a tuned win xp lite installation for arma, as vista is quite a system hog with really no benefit to gaming at the moment a tuned winxp lite installation.... m8, those things were needed 3 years ago on then already 5 year old computers... If you have a proper machine, which is current, with current hardware, and you use proper and updated drivers and keep ur system properly clean from virusses, spyware, do ur usual defragmentation round etc. etc...  it is all fine... Of coarse you should not run 20 programs in the background for nothing (im not saying background services etc. as they use very very little...).. You dont need that 0,0001 cpu cycle and 1.25mb of RAM that you can free up by shutting down 20 services, and that 2mb harddrive space you can save by not installing the card games etc... It's simply rediculous It's like removing 1 bottle of water from your 3.0i 24v BMW Sports car because you think it can accelerate and/or drive faster (noticeably) then Modern current computers with 1024mb 2+ ghz  A64 or Core2 systems will not speed up considerably with "Lite XP versions etc" I must agree that Vista uses more resources, but the system cache system of Vista is a lot better which could lead to increased performance, especially since the "hog" is a lot less when ur playing games simply because Vista's userinterface etc. is basicly cleared from VRAM etc.. Bunkers 0 Posted February 14, 2007 I dont know if it's a Vista related problem. It's strange, because alot of ppl already run ArmA on Vista. Sickboy even has the same GPU as me (and I guess u use the 100.59 drivers too?). My old XP pc with a 7900GT runs ArmA without this problem. I was pretty sure the HDR settings would solve it, but no. Hopefully I'll find a solution or a driver update will fix it for me. The next PC I buy I'll test run ArmA in advance to be sure.
Bunkers 0 Posted February 14, 2007 Oh my it's actually getting worse look at this: http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/3755/fogworsero8.jpg that's the most extreme yet, the next one is more the normal: http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/5821/foggirq3.jpg still bad though.. Did you put 0 setfog 0; 0 setovercast 0 In the init line of your unit to completely get rid of the fog? As your bug looks like normal ArmA fog to me.
Bunkers 0 Posted February 14, 2007 Yeah it looks like the usual fog, only on steroids.. I dont know how to set those values like you said. But that shouldn't count when I play online anyway should it? Maybe I'll buy it for a second time now that it will shortly be released on disc in EU. And hope it helps. Just checking if its your machine or the mission, maybe the missions you play are supposed to have that fog Just go into the mission editor, place 1 unit (yourself), now in the screen where you can choose what kind of unit you place etc there are 2 long boxes where you can type in, in the upper one type: 0 setfog 0; 0 setovercast 0 Now preview the mission and look if the fog is still there.
