New rules for Poll threads.

Addons forum especially is getting overly clogged with polls, so in recognition of that we've decided on a couple of poll "rules"

1. Polls without the option for replies get closed after 3 days if still active.

2. Polls with the option for replies get closed after 3 days unless the replies are still active (ie there is still an active discussion going on), when there hasn't been a new reply for 24 hours after the 3 days is up they get closed ("bumps" of course do not count as active replies).

I'll post this here in Addons & Mods (as it seems to be the most poll filled forum) and also post it in News Discussion.

I hate all these bloody polls, thankyou Placebo for trying to limit them.

They are really pointless, they usually don't have a suitable range of answers or the answers bias the opinion of the creator. And in the end they are ultimately ignored if a discusion arises.

Stop making them people...especially the pointless ones!

IMHO we dont need the polls at all. We got allong just fine without them so why keep them if they are so obviously used to spam and are rarely if not never usefull

Maybe for a poll to be made, it has to get clearence from a mod first, this way only serious polls are started. I was a member of some forum a year and a half a go and it was maditory to submit a poll to a moderator first before you got it posted on the board. Maybe this can't be done with ikonboards, I don't really know how it was done on that other board, but it really did keep the stupid "how do you wipe your ass" polls way.

AFAIK unfortunately we only have the option of having to check and authorise all posts or none at all, that combined with the fact the forums are so slow would mean moderating would be even more time consuming than it is now, maybe something to look at in the future, it does seem that these new rules are having the desired effect, no more is the addons forum "8 polls, 1 thread, 7 polls, 1 thread etc"

I think POLLS here should Only be made by the BIS producers, and/or the forum moderators.

I think that BIS should try to figure out the top 20 bugs, and take a poll to see what people want as immediate, TOP PRIORITY, for bug fixing.

I'd REALLY like to see airplane and helicopter throttle control & joystick improvements, but MY preference may not be what 99% of the rest of the OFP community wants.
