456820 0 Posted October 1, 2006 Always been wondering that since dual cores dont use both cores in normal ofp does that mean if you have a dual core server only 1 core runs ofp too? So if you were to force the server to run both cores would more power go to the ofp server? I tried a quick search for dual core under multiplayer but didnt really find anything. Cheers. zyklone 1 Posted October 1, 2006 In Linux the simulation thread will run on one core using 100% cpu and another thread (probably network related) runs on the other using perhaps 5% cpu there. So there is no major benefit from multi core processors currently.
blackdog~ 0 Posted October 1, 2006 Dual core can have an advantage with OFP and ArmA servers though as if you task one core to OFP only and then the other core to all other services such as the OS, network programs, web servers, etc your server will have full leash on it's very own "processor"... 456820 0 Posted October 2, 2006 Cheers blackdog any chance you would know how to task certain files to a single core and everything else the other core?
killswitch 19 Posted October 4, 2006 Cheers blackdog any chance you would know how to task certain files to a single core and everything else the other core? On Windows machines, you can use a utility named imagecfg.exe to "mark" a certain application as either "uniprocessor only" or set the program's CPU affinity to one of the available cores. You'll have to google that baby. On Linux servers, depending on which distribution you run, you want to look at using either numactl (this is only useful on proper NUMA architecture machines) or taskset. (Look for program packages called "schedutils" and "numactl")
Auss 208 Posted October 6, 2006 Running OFP on 2x 275 series Dual cores using windows 64 Bit 2003 and setting the affinity on the server.exe to use all 4 cores, and they do!!! Runing CRCTI V1.03b maxing all 36 groups out with full 12 AI on 1500 VD sees the cumlative CPU usage at 26%

Do to the more complicated memory handling etc your configuration perform less than if you had used 1 core, I belive.

Are you talking about dual core or dual CPU? While he may have meant one dual-core cpu, the statement is actually valid for both kinds of machines.
