Gedis 0 Posted June 24, 2006 who said i don't have original version of 3D Studio Max 7? maybe i can upload it like i did to someone from this forum earlier... F-18 Hornets pdfs
-TheOne- 0 Posted June 24, 2006 If I had $4,000 to blow, I might buy Max, but I've neither the money nor the time to spend learning Max - so I gotta make do with what I got. Some hard work and I'm pretty sure I'll get this done. Or you could use something called pbo to obj and then unwrap it in something called LithUnwrap which is a simple and free program, but you might have a hard time finding it, but you can find it packed with the pbo to 3ds(yeah you can also convert it to 3ds) utility. Delirium 0 Posted June 24, 2006 There are a lot of very cheap modeling software available on the market. Hexagon for example you can get for 30$. Silo is very cheap either and you'll get upgrate for free. All you have to do is to look around.
franze 196 Posted June 24, 2006 Ok folks, here's what I've got: - 3 templates so far, all mapped - not all parts are mapped yet, so open spaces are left for these three templates - using 1024x1024 sheets currently This is a mapping of the top wings and elevons, plus the underside of the engine nacelles. Is it in the right direction?

franze 196 Posted June 25, 2006 Small update: Side map Top map I've already got corresponding bottom maps, so don't worry about that. I'd also like to thank Gedis BIG time, the resources he found for the Super Hornet are great for a lot of the grey areas like avionics. Much obliged for the resources, mate! Delirium 0 Posted June 25, 2006 Ok, it seems that it was just a time limited offer but still: Hexagon 2.1 = 149$ shop Silo 1.4 with free update on release to 2 = 109$ (already very well received app for 3d Modelers) shop Both include very handy UV mapping + all major apps export support: obj, 3ds, fact, dxf, rib, and pov. So, Max isn't the only option for modelers.
franze 196 Posted June 25, 2006 It's better than the $3,500 they want for Max. Thanks for the info, Delirium.
max power 21 Posted June 25, 2006 Blender is also good and it's free. In fact, it's open source, and so it's being developed all the time. Discrete also did a free version of max called gmax. I don't know if autodesk is still doing that. There are a lot of free 3d software solutions, Blender being one of the best.
nephilim 0 Posted June 25, 2006 yea blender is a very powerfull tool the newer version can do about the same what maya or max can do. however the handling is pretty fuzzy sometimes theres also some other cool tools around of which you can dwl a trailversion eg modo (luxology.com) or zbrush (pixologic.com) although theyre trail version they have enough capabilities for ofp models and the 30 day trail can be worked around anyway *cough* daykill *cough* nice mapping btw

xnodunitx 0 Posted June 25, 2006 I still have the .exe of gmax back when it was shareware..or is it freeware...either way.
franze 196 Posted June 26, 2006 Last I checked, AutoDesk gave Gmax the axe - they're quitting it.

adumb 0 Posted June 27, 2006 Not to sound bitchy... but you could have put that on one 1024x1024, and not three.
franze 196 Posted June 27, 2006 I'm leaving plenty of room for additional details which I haven't mapped yet.
nephilim 0 Posted June 29, 2006 i think that 3 1024Ë› are pretty okay to keep some detail on that thing sure thing they could be merged to a single1024Ë› for ofp and for arma a rescaled 2048Ë› but as arma isnt out yet :P
