Mad Max V-8 Interceptor

Recommended Posts

At first this was meant to be a part of the Car Wars mod, but  they got another release up faster than I could complete this, so I decided to make it a seperate addon which also brings me the joy of learning how to get an addon from 3dsmax to OFP. But I've also started learning coding, which is a big problem, at least for now, since I don't know what is what, so help would be nice.

The textures are not final(d'oh) in these screenshots, I've got most of the outside covered and after that just the inside.

I'll start posting the pics, from the first ones I took to the latest ones. Well, I hope you like it:

I don´t like those render pix... they mostly look better than the whole addon.

But i´m looking forward driving with this car.

Alternatively you could say that the OFP graphics engine is ancient compared to just about anything (even modelling programs released in 2001) wink_o.gif

The black paint could use some work, give it a little more metallic look, more shiney.

Yeah, I know, I'm trying my best with this, since I'm not the best texture maker it's a bit hard, but I'm getting closer to what I want. I can try adding more highlights, but I think I can't do much more, at least with my limited knowledge. Does anybody know something better?

Hmm, I tried that lightmap thing, but it didn't work so well. No major improvement, but I'll try to get something out of it by tampering with some settings, hehe.

Great work ONE!

Not sure if this will help as I havn't done a lot of texturing myself but something I learned years ago studying art is that black isn't always black and that sometimes it helps to exagerate.

ie. the exterior black is currently TOO black, by that I mean it needs to be toned back 2-3%.

And it might help to exagerate the highlights abit. probably need to be heavier generaly, but also be carefull of areas such as the intakes on the bonnet scoops. Those smooth unbroken lines as the bonnet flattens into the intake detract from the more subtle appearance of the real object

Thank you very much, and you are an excellent addon maker yourself too.

The version in the carwars Mod isn't really an accurate model of an Australian early 70's Falcon Coupe.

My understanding is that the carwars addon maker didn't have plan diagrams of the Falcon but did his best without them. (no small feat I might add).

Exactly, for most cars you can easly find blueprints and such, but for some you really have to dig around. I got a very slightly inaccurate top drawing from somebody and I managed to get a back and side scan from the manual from somebody else. That was pretty much all that was needed since the front is custom made. I did get some pics from replica builders, I got some really nice pics from Gordon Hayes, who is probably the best replica builder out there.

Well no updates for now, but soon....

Also could anybody point me to the direction of some more complicated config tutorials that would teach me how to do a bit more than change the model? I managed to get a new sound for it coded, but that's about it. No headlights. No nothing.

More pics:

I updated it a bit, mainly a bit of highlights, and added some really crappy backlights, plus the front got updated(was missing the tiny lights at the bottom(foglights) but it's not here).

And if you've ever watched Mad Max at all, you should know what this means:
