D.murphy man 0 Posted March 26, 2006 heh i got the disc laying around here some where right now. was a pretty good game for a while, but then it just got a bit repetative, plus they added big huge arse fighting robots that would jus camp bases meaning you couldnt get out and fight back. Thats when i left, might give it another try now though.
lilwillie 47 Posted March 26, 2006 BFR's where nerfed like crazy. A Prowler, Magridger or whatever can take one down. Infantry also, with the right set up. The big robots are nothing more then cumbersome artillery pieces now. "Fodderside" as it has been nicknamed. One free year, up to about battle rank 8 and command rank 2 or 3 I think. They have had a numbers slide over the past year and are trying to see if it is worth wild to do anymore upgrades to the game, or kill it off completely. At least that's my thoughts. I play occasionally still, but it does end up being repeatitive.
-ZG-BUZZARD 0 Posted April 20, 2006 I'll be joining the reserves soon, maybe this weekend... I wondered who else in OFP plays this... was thinking of making an OFP-style movie in Planetside, that would be cool...
shinRaiden 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Read the fine prints peoples. SOE is not moving to give games away for free. Rather, they're giving free access to download the content, along with trial memberships on their otherwise monthly subscription services. The idea is like steam, except you pay every month for access to all games instead of once-off per game.
Billabong81 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Shin, mind explaining a bit more? I'm confused on what this is now.. I just downloaded the program and installed planetside. Then I set up an account and stuff and can play right? Or am I wrong?
Warden 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Yes you can play for a year, but if you want to be able to use all the skills, vechs weaps you need to get the full version, the reserve one has a limited skill tree and BR points.
Billabong81 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Oh, got it. Not going to bother then. Thanks for the info .
-ZG-BUZZARD 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Well, actually you can use all the vehicles and weapons except for the BFR's... Big Freakin' Robots (aka Battleframe Robotics). You're more limited in terms of command though, as you can't call in orbital strikes... But I've seen pics of meteor showers, so no problem!!!
TheBladeRoden 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Random comment: I'd like a game that was a half-breed of OFP and Planetside.
-ZG-BUZZARD 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Well, in Planetside the action goes on continental-sized islands so that's definitely OFP-ish... You have the Sa-61 Skorpion... ermm, I mean AMP... Also, the FN F-2000 ( aka Punisher )... then you have ATVs, you have buggies, tanks... Some futuristic planes and, of course, the BFR's... But besides that, more or less everything would be "do-able" in OFP as well ( except getting so many players together! )... so you could consider Planetside to be "OFP-Futuristic", with MMOG dimensions! whisper 0 Posted April 26, 2006 BUZZARD @ April 20 2006,02:19)]I'll be joining the reserves soon, maybe this weekend... I wondered who else in OFP plays this... was thinking of making an OFP-style movie in Planetside, that would be cool... PS player since nearly 3 years here \o Still a good game, if you play with the correct pple. Precisions on the reservist program : you canb play everything, bare BFR pilot, but not at the same time, because you are limited in the number of certifications available to you (ie type of weapons, armor and vehicles you can use), but you can change certifications often enough to taste everything. Definitely a huge improvement since the Reserver program started, as populations are back and battles are huge again
-ZG-BUZZARD 0 Posted May 9, 2006 1 Week in Reserves program and I must say it rocks! I'm on Werner, TX3RN0BILL on Vanu side and M0NK3YWR3NCH on Terran side... where are you?

EiZei 0 Posted May 9, 2006 Seems worth a try, at least the lack of realism won't feel so bad when the game does'nt try to pretend anything..
Warden 0 Posted May 9, 2006 Just Reinstalled my Copy OF PS to find that Some Lovely bloke at SOE has comped my account forever (same with SWG/EQ/EQ2) ! Im on the Werner Server: Ferrus BR14 CR1!
whisper 0 Posted May 9, 2006 Seems worth a try, at least the lack of realism won't feel so bad when the game does'nt try to pretend anything.. definitely. More about teamplay than anything else, when played properly.
Warden 0 Posted May 9, 2006 Yeah make sure you get decent Squad/Platoon going, preferably from with an Outfit.
Antichrist 0 Posted May 9, 2006 I played a trial of Planetside about 3 years ago. Really enjoyed it. Wanted to start paying for it, but the bastards wanted me to pay for a boxed version of the game instead of just simply upgrading my trial account. That killed it for me. Way to lose a customer, by being a bunch of greedy bastards. No wonder that the game never became popular. But since then I was always thinking about how cool it would be if that sort of MMO gameplay was somehow done in OFP. Now with ArmA getting 60+ player servers we are getting closer and closer to that.
Warden 0 Posted May 10, 2006 You can upgrade the reserve accounts to Full status now.

lilwillie 47 Posted May 11, 2006 Even just 300+ peps it is still surviving. That is thier average run during the whole day. So over that time with people coming in and out I would say they are still making money on it. Or it would be dead. I play on Emerald, "Virtual Hitmen" outfit. Total spec ops style. No zerging or just plain running into a fight. We Gal drop towers/ Do Gen drops and Command Central Hacks with complete organization. Try to take a whole base down with just a platoon size group at best. Training on certain nights. We also have a certain amount of certs required to achieve the mission objective. Armor rolled when needed, Air assualt rolled also when needed. Great bunch of gamers to play with when I'm in the "futuristic" mood.
