Randy 0 Posted March 2, 2006 I frequent these forums a fair bit, but can't find something that'd satisfy me specifically, so here it goes. As far as I understand, BI are putting in not only graphical improvements and a massive island, but a whole bunch of things from VBS1. I'm not entirely clear on what is going to be in game 2 and what is going to be in ARMA. So is this new governing dynamic AI going to be in ARMA? Ambient fauna? What about that talk of AI with seagull flocks and the possibility of seeing them about the island? Any thoughts are more than welcome. Also, with the possibility of this stuff, who is just hankering to go hog shooting from a helicopter? Maybe firebomb herds of cattle, I know I sure as hell am. Whenever I played Flashpoint it always struck me how cool it would be if someone made a hunting mod, maybe some kind of manhunt or dangerous animal hunt. -kelet0r 0 Posted March 2, 2006 Well nobody knows for sure yet apart from BIS The graphics have been ramped up somewhat and we will get everything that was in Elite - fauna(seagulls), destructible flora (ie woods) Other than that check this article for some more clarity Here

Only I don't know if the dinos can kill you :P
Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted March 2, 2006 Hey mate Ive written two articles that pretty much sums up everything we know so far. First read this: http://www.arma.dk/readarticle.php?article_id=1 then read this one: http://www.arma.dk/readarticle.php?article_id=8 The only certain new feature not mentioned in the article, is that we will have voice communication as well (as seen in the interview that skeletor posted). JdB 151 Posted March 2, 2006 I don't know if the players' presence actually scares animals, from what I recall that hasn't been said in that specific context. It would make a cool feature. I've been reading a book (novel) about the resistance movement on the Phillipines, where this guy can hear from the sounds that the monkeys (among others) are making that there are people nearby (and so can the Japanese). Imagine that, walking through the forest and then suddenly the entire squad hits the deck because of some disturbed birds Calling in an artillery strike on that position

Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted March 2, 2006 Well, they said that the animals would be "Interactive"... I can only imagine that they are able to see/hear you. I dont think you can actually talk with them
CameronMcDonald 146 Posted March 2, 2006 Those are really good articles, mate - certainly opened my eyes. I'm not sure as to whether BIS will incorporate things such as multiple weapon-on vehicles, though - the tanks seem much the same (better model and textures, but no commander/gunner MGs). Scrub 0 Posted March 3, 2006 Imagine that, walking through the forest and then suddenly the entire squad hits the deck because of some disturbed birds Calling in an artillery strike on that position MTO: We have made contact with a renegade flock of seagulls, request fire mission, over. (that would be unnerving, to say the least)
klasodeth 0 Posted March 3, 2006 If you had ever been carpet-bombed by a flock of seagulls, you'd call in a fire mission too. "BIRD DROPPINGS INCOMING!!! TAKE COVER!!!"
maxqubit 1 Posted March 3, 2006 Perhaps a dumb question (i'm only playing OFP:E and never hit upon this) Can you surrender (and perhaps be freed by friendlies) or make the opposition surrender? I ask this because i made a 80 vs 80 map but to end it i had to kill everyone, that seemed a bit 'too much' ... surrender would be nice (and more humane;) ... Edit: Btw, check out the OFP:E vids in the sig to see some of the elements which probably will be in ArmA like wildlife, seagulls, waves, dust, grass

Randy 0 Posted March 3, 2006 Sorry for the double post, but I gotta say, this community is by far one of the most mature I've seen in any online environment. It's just the kind of people OFP attracts I suppose. If you want to see the equivalent of Ragnarok on a previously good forum, check out the Elder Scrolls Oblivion forums, 2 or 3 useless threads a minute, I kid you not. About 6 months ago it was a pretty hospitable and reasonable environment.
Chunder 0 Posted March 3, 2006 personally I'm really looking forward to armed assault because the developers are updating the gameplay points that operation flashpoint was weak on - or outright creating new options. I really do like the thought of using these features to create a battle field in which I fill my own role, a minor part in acheiving a greater objective. Out in this island which is just *huge* where an enemy, be it a GI, sniper, bmp or anything could be lurking behind the tree, in the ditch, over the ridge. in a bush, in a house and your death could be seconds / minutes or even an hour away. Infact, someones boarding a Attack helo right now at a base the other end of the island right now and is going to do a sweep of your area after being called in by the enemy. In return you may have any number of options available to you to combat this, and an environment which disguises the enemies movement much like in real life. I find the thought of it awesome. I can't wait to be scared of it. The new features indicate the game play is being fine tunesd, even improved upon from before in an evolutionary step thats seen op fp, resistance, and now armed assault, and they've had 4 years to think about how to improve on it. It's going to be great I think,
Randy 0 Posted March 3, 2006 True that, BI have some real vision. ARMA must be the only game I really care about now, Stalker may be released this decade and I'm not even going to buy Oblivion till I got a beasty PC. Additionally, some of my greatest gaming moments, almost all of them, have been whilst playing OFP. Another thought has occurred to me: if we can fill almost any role like in OFP, including highly cladestine special forces, I wonder if dogs will be included. After all, skulking through hedges in enemy territory and hearing the distant bark of dogs would be pretty terrifying, knowing that surely they'd be tracing your steps. You'd have to take immediate action and do some pretty desperate manuevers to get out of that one.

Yeah, like try crossing a body of water to lose the scent and then die because you alergic to the water...
