Jwam 0 Posted February 10, 2006 Hi ! I was reading this forum when I remarked it was the official one. Though I don't understand what such a forum is made for, as there is not much official information, but a lot of people writing plzzz plzzz I want screenshots plzzz... So, maybe (I say maybe ) my post will be useful. I remarked in OFP that it could be possible ton run faster while straffing. I hope this kinda "bug" won't still exist in ArmA. Maybe you didn't noticed it, so... here it is... Also, it was possible to run fast for a long looong time, which was not realistic at all, and also when we had big load. It'd be cool not to be able to do this anymore. Keep up the good work, screenshots are becoming nicer and nicer.. and sorry if my english is bad 'cause I'm coming from France. brataccas 0 Posted February 10, 2006 bonjour! ye I notice this bug too, im actually in the habit in ofp1 of running "diagonally" all the time and your english is fine btw
Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted February 10, 2006 Yep, its a pretty known bug - and it was pretty hard not to exploid it :-)
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted February 10, 2006 Who's to say it was a bug? I mean the animations were done with motion capture equipment, is it really so impossible to believe that a human can run faster diagonally than forward? It's all relative too, maybe the forward running animation is just too slow? Anyways the animations in ArmA have been redone, so we won't know what any of it will be like until it's released. Besides, if you aren't happy with BIS's animations then there should be plenty of 3rd party replacement packs that you could use.
-kelet0r 0 Posted February 10, 2006 I never encountered that bug - strafing was always painfully slow in the game, maybe even too slow - the reaction time just seemed too relaxed :|
benreeper 0 Posted February 10, 2006 Strafing is fine. Nobody RUNS sideways. --Ben

But im sure you get tired of that in the end as well.. In OFP you dont. You can also run vertical uphill sideways
llauma 0 Posted February 10, 2006 You can run up really steep mountains (like 80 degrees) by strafing. If you approach it straight you'll get prone but sideways it looks like spiderman running up a wall.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted February 10, 2006 Also, it was possible to run fast for a long looong time, which was not realistic at all, and also when we had big load. You may not have noticed, but if you sprint for a while you slow down... Â EDIT: oh, you were talking about running, well, in that case i said nothing
norsu 180 Posted February 11, 2006 This reminds me of similar topic in TTLG forums, some quotes that explain this. Quote[/b] ]That works in SO MANY GAMES that use buttons for movement instead of an analogue device. The reason being that if you press W, you move (for example) 4 units forward per game cycle. And if you press A, you move 4 units left per cycle. So if you hold W and A, you move 4 units forward AND 4 units left, and 4 + 4 means 8 units per cycle! It's incredibly simple and stupid, and so many games ignore it. Even modern ones. I can't believe it personally. And a correction to this theory: Quote[/b] ]Vectors my friend.4x + 4y = 5.66 @ 45*

On Malden at the cliffs you can strafe all the way up in a few seconds. But if you go prone some weird bugs shows up like long legs/necks . Also straffing has the "2d" bug when in 3rd person mode. EDIT: oh, you were talking about running, well, in that case i said nothing thats the bug he's talking about when you strafe and hold sprint key then turn the mouse slightly you dont slow down and can sprint up hills..you still get tired and sound out of breath but dont slow down...when you stop of coarse you knackered and in mods like wgl or finmod you cant aim for shit when you stop running..but until you stop running you can go full speed for ever if you keep a nice angle and you can do with any anims packs aswell although its a bit harder to get it right with sanctuary's
Jwam 0 Posted February 11, 2006 Hi guys... I didn't know all animations would be redone in ArmA. It's quite evident but I didn't really think about that. So, let's keep on waiting, thinking this game is gonna be the greatest one ever seen !
