What is picture?

Recommended Posts

According to the comref the command setGroupId contains three elements: groupId format is [letter, color, picture].

I understand how to use the first elements i.e "Alpha Black", where "Alpha" is derived from letter and "Black" from color. But what is picture?

How do I set it? What will happen if I succeed?? Or is this yet another obsolete command from the demo days of OFP???

Interesting question.

I've made some test some months ago, but they led me to nowhere.

My first tough, since <<picture>> is a string was about the possibilty to add aditional text before the message, maybe by referring it to a .csv, but inserting the format comand it returns an error message.

Second I've took a look at the main OFP .csv, searching for something related, but again without success.

What i didn't tried was to attemp inserting path to an icon picture, but at the end I think you're right about the it's obsolescence.

I will try to direct it to a picture. If it works I suppose it will look for pictures in the mission directory. Any suggestions on filesize, format, et cetera before I start my trial and error?

My spontaneous guess is that it might be some icon that is displayed together with sideChat/groupChat. But I'm just guessing so far...

Maybe it is the little picture that shows when someone gets in a vehicle that is drivin by someone else. That little picture of a truck or whatever shows in top right of their face picture.

This is a complete guess.

Don't think so, since that picture is a property of the vehicle addon. I was thinking something like the pic you see when you write sideChat with Caps Lock activated (a man screaming). Maybe you can include some custom stuff. Time will tell with a little trial and error... [To be continued]

This is totally unknown to me!!!

Exactly, what I have to do to see this pic???

Ok, it was a bad example, because this icon only shows up before you hit enter and submit you sideChat msg to the rest of the players. But...

If I participate in a MP game, open the sideChat window and press caps lock, there´s a small icon next to the sidechat window indicating I have caps lock enabled.

My theory was, that maybe it´s possible to have a small custom icon sent with the sideChat msg, that your teammates can see. Still didn't have time to test, since I´m working all weekend [To Be Continued]

I'm not sure if you're searching in the right direction, because this shouting head picture is just the symbol for the build in voicecom of OFP, and caps lock is the talk button.

Maybe it's just only a MP feature.....

Now let's imagine what's the pourpouse of such command.

You sidechat or sideradio something and let's say you can attach an imagine.

Now, what's the aim of this? What's it's usefull for?

In MP it could be usefull for a better, immediate recognization of your mates when they say something. This could make sense, and maybe it's possible if the players have the same path and name for the pic, so that who host he match can enable this feature (I'm just wondering, since I know nothing about MP editing and realated....)

In SP, about the same, by displaying the small unit icons (tank, chopper and so on), for a better recognization about the kind of unit is talking......

Any other ideas?

@Klavan

I was thinking along the same lines. I'm curious about what the command does. I don't really need it.

@Trapper

A built in voice com in OFP? I've been playing MP games since 2002 and never heard about this? Me and my LAN-group always use Teamspeak or a Yahoo voice conference. Feel free to enlight me on this subject smile_o.gif

Ok smile_o.gif

In startmenu Codemasters\Operation Flashpoint\Operation Flashpoint Preferences

There is the button voice setup, if you configure it, it's activated.

Think twice before you do it!

I don't know how to deactivate it again

As far as I know it's laggy like hell and can also be used to annoy other players on public servers. That's a reason why no one is using it.

errrm...I don't think this could be used to make you recognize your mates any better, because the picture would most likely be very small, and therefor you wouldn't be able to see who it was...and if it was any big, it would just be annoying. Besides, it's pretty easy to see who's saying something.

To be honest, I don't see any good use for it. Maybe that's why nobody uses the picture when setting ID, and that's why nobody knows whats it for tounge2.gif

Umm, I dunno what you mean.  The whole voice thing was made for DirectPlay network game.  Well DirectPlay STINKS and when BIS realized this and moved to Sockets with Resistance, they dropped the voice over net thing.  So if you want to talk to people without using TeamSpeak or something else, play OFP in DirectPlay "mode"...but I haven't seen anyone playing in this mode in a long time.

In short...even though you see a screaming guy when CAPS LOCK is pushed, it means nothing....unless you are playing with DirectPlay.

Ok, that explains it. Thanks for the news update. I'll test the picture command this week to see what it does. Will return to this thread when I have something to report.
