CrunchyFrog 0 Posted July 21, 2005 Too prove my point with SLI...
Moving Target 0 Posted July 23, 2005 yes, but that is only in one of the tests. In the real world the speed of RAM and CPU play a bigger part, in whether they can keep up with the MB rate that the SLI cards can produce. This is a bigger defining factor than OMG!! i have SLI!! 2 cards will give twice as much performance. doesnt work like that im afraid.
Colossus 2 Posted July 23, 2005 I want SLI! I know that older games doesn't support it but who cares when you get THAT amount of power? But I think I'll wait for SLI2, I think SLI2 might be able to fix that problem. (Note: BIS, I hope ArmA and the games after will support SLI. Please please please) BTW, what about GeForce 7800? Where on the list is that one? I'm guessing on the top but still..
scars09 9 Posted July 23, 2005 i have a 2.8 ghz p4 with a gforce 5900fx and 2 gig ram. friend of mine has a brandnew 3 ghz p4 with a 6800 gt and a gig ram. i beat him in everything, look, frames, and my hardware doesnt has 50% of the temperature he has. Best thing i ever did was to get those 2 gig ram. Dont pay lot of money for "overclocking ram", most noname ram brings more then the latencies its produced for and for the money saved buy the double amount of ram. and sli shouldnt be a discussion point as long the thread is called Recommend me a PC for OFP cause you will have nothing from sli with ofp (i can change my 5900fx with a geforce 4200 ti, same performance, same look, the ram and cpu are important not the videocard (as long its not older then 1-2 years) btw i think arras will run better then ofp on same hardware, my vbs1 runs much better then my ofp
Heatseeker 0 Posted July 24, 2005 SLI is a benchmark thingy, just check out the nvidia forums and see how many people have issues with it, plus if your going to buy 2 6600GT's you would be better of with a 6800 ultra, SLI doesnt support all that many games and the ultra is sure to give you great performance in most if not all. If OFP really is the game you wish to run properly forget about new graphics cards, atleast nvidias, at first i was impressed with better performance (fps) with more units, smoke and efects with my 6600GT but with the latest drivers it runs like poo plus sometimes it crashes randomly, sometimes with the infamous "out of memory?" or wathever error it is, i think the best card for OFP should problably be a 4600ti, atleast my 4200 never crashed and performance was acceptable, with the game (ofp) not being supported anymore im considering to start bitching about this at the nvidia forums . Ofcourse buying an ancient card with the possability of ARAS being around the corner would be a mistake one would regret for a while... Sound wise i could recomend a audigy2 zs, good relation quality/price though OFP sound is poor and not very demanding, anything but cheap sblive pos, it will crash you back and forth. Point being you dont need a great PC to run OFP anymore, just a decent cpu and lots of ram, i have a 2.4 with a gig of ram and it runs and loads very well, i dont think the game would take advantage of anything above 3ghz because it wasnt meant to, Armed Assault shouldnt be more demanding either if they really optimised the engine enough for it to fit in a xbox .
