A addon request

Im woundering if its possible to make an addon which will be similare to a huge shield. It should like a big window, which u can see and run through, but if someone tries to shoot through it the bullets will hit the "invisible shield" and stop.

This is basicly to help out CTF and C&H makers where they can put this object around the Safe zone. It would prevent spawn raping and reduce the lag.

So a huge window that stop bullets but allowes players/tanks to travel through.

Possible? not possible? Does someone have alot of free time who want to help out? smile_o.gif

it is very simple to make.

there is geometry lod and fire geometry lod

one defines "walls" second defines if you can shoot thro them

leave first empty, second fill with huge box....

i just tried this

it works and all it just whe you shoot at it the bullet dust appears at the middle of the box crazy_o.gif

lenght and width is 40m

It works perfect! Just like i wanted it!

But I have no tiny request smile_o.gif Could you increase the width on it? Around 400meters wide and keep the same hight and deepth on it.

ok smile_o.gif, ill try to get it sorted, I did unpbo your addon but there was no value in the cfg where it said seize :P.

You change the size of the model in o2, not in the config, just so you know. Just take the end points in o2, and drag em out, that should do it...or if you want to be more accurate press Shift+E and edit point properties, after selecting the points. Hope that help a bit. wink_o.gif

@Cain:

400m ain't possible for a working collision lod.

All you can do is 64m.

You could off course make same invisible walls and use a

script to put them on the map correctly.

The fortress from my arabic objects will use a script like

this and i already have it - if you want i could make you

summit, as walls and buildings is the stuff i'm working on,

and this shouldn't be too much time consuming.

Just gimmie some more specific sizes (height) and i'll make

it for ya.

Result will be:

one object to pick from editor => the required ammount of

invisible fire absorbing walls to cover the area you need.

thats exactly what i did few years back biggrin_o.gif

now i prefer Polish pizza biggrin_o.gif

resizing this object should be easy, and knowing basics of addons making will not hurt anyone ;-)

Yeah Offtime - knowing basics of addon making wouldn't hurt

anybody, but knowing basics only will not be enough.

There will come up problems of what the experienced addonmaker doesn't even think about when talking about

an object like this fire shield.

And most of the problems aren't covered in the tutorials -

you must start read thru o2 forum, or post questions, etc.

Off course you're right that it's better for ppl to learn how to

do easy stuff themselves, but if it's only this shield what he

needs then this could be maybe a reason to give up because

of so many things to be considered to learn.

For an experienced addonmaker this shield should take a few

moves in o2 and voilla: for a newbie it can take a week.

example:

question: "why my bullets seem to impact not on the right

place when firing onto the object i've built in o2?"

answer: "check your fire geo for; correct faces - solid components - non-convexities - right size - blablabla"

You get what i mean?

OK, if cain is like me - who wants to figure out things on his

own and who wants to make his own pizzeria biggrin_o.gif then give

it a go cain and learn - i'll be there in case you need some

help or hints (and so for sure the rest of the addon comunity).

If not - my offer is still up

Notes:

- HE exploding on the walls can still damage kill on the other side for a short radius .... not sure its possible to completely insulate this.

- Grenades and so-such landing on the roof seem to still cause an explosion at ground level ..... looks like an OFP Engine limitation.

sweet, i tried them and they work very good smile_o.gif Very nice with the roof. Only prob that it gives a unrealistic feeling when playing with a huge Red shield on a CTF wink_o.gif.

For chirs and offtime, i manage to make the thingy twice its witdh and wasnt as hard as I though. Many thanks.! if you ever need help with someone let me know smile_o.gif

I don't know about that shield, but I do agree with the CTF part nener.gif

Looks pretty neat! How 'bout a glass-looking (semi-transparent?) wall that you cannot walk trough OR shoot trough? Could be useful for some missions.
