2006.02.09, NEW VERSION 6.0rc1, work in progress

There are two MAJOR changes:

1. This new version utilizes the dmx_police pack, and the police Mi-2. And i made their sirens and megaphone work in MP (they not only work, but they are really useful now).

2. Now you can stop the travelling civilians by shouting (when on foot) or by using the sirene (when in police vehicle) or megaphone (in the helicopter). The AI will pull over and stop so you can go to them and check their "papers" to determine whether it's the killer or not (you need to be less than 2 meters away from the civilian, then it will indicate whether it's a normal citizen or the killer - of course you are risking to be killed if it really is the killer). This is really cool feature.

There are also some other changes, like that the civilians are no longer shown on the map, so now you can't determine who is the killer by simple looking on the map (when you seen someone and he has no green dot on the map, then you knew that it is the killer, now you don't know, so you actually have a reason to use the new features allowing you to order the civilians to stop).

But now it's too hard for killer to plan his attacks, so i think i will make it the opposite - that the civilians AND the killers are marked by green dot.

The download is not ready right now, because the whole thing is still in testing phase (but seek, and ye shall find wink_o.gif ).

I will be happy for any comments, or feature suggestions.

you can try the eVAC server, just write "eVAC" into the filter on your OFP connection screen, and you will see if it is online.

But right now, there is only the new version 6.0 on the server. I do not encourage people to download it (because it's not fully tested), but you can try to download it from http://5133p39.wz.cz/files/psycho_slayer/

...but unfortunately, people are telling me, that they have some troubles downloading from there (i don't know why, the download is relatively slow sometimes, but it allways worked for me. It seems that only people from outside of the Czech Republic have this problem)

Thanks for your feedback, i appreciate it.

Try the version 6.0rc2, few things has been changed, and i think it is a lot better than any previous version:

About the version 6.0rc2

1. It uses the dmx_police pack which provides nice police vehicles with sirens, etc. In the mission i am using vehicles defined in the MORS_psycho addon whose vehicles are derived from the dmx_police pack, and thus contains some improvements so the sirens and sounds really work in MP.

2. You can order a civilian AI to stop to be checked, by shouting, or by short sirene sounds (depends on whether you are in a police vehicle or on foot) - it's available through an option in the action menu. A civilian AI will pull over, stop, and wait for 25 - 45 seconds for you to get to him and "check his papers". To "check the papers" of the civilian, you must get to position no more than 3 meters away from the unit, then you will automatically shout at him to leave (if it is a good citizen), or you will shout "alarm! alarm!" (when it is the killer) and for 1 minute duration, the position of killer will be marked on the police maps.

- When you are on foot, the AI are reacting to your shout order only to the distance of 100 meters.

- When you are in any police car, the max. distance is 150 meters.

- When you are in the police chopper, the max. distance is 300 meters.

3. The civilians are marked on the map by a green dot ONLY for killer players, so the cops can't see the civilians on map. So the cops aren't capable to determine whether the unit they see is a killer by simple look into the map (in the past, if you seen someone and he hasn't been marked on the map, then you knew it must be the killer - this is not possible now). Now you must order the unit to stop (which i described in paragraph 2) and determine the nature of the unit by his actions

- smart killer can act like an AI, and confuse you into thinking that he is just an AI citizen.

THERE ARE SOME BUGS, or things which should have been changed:

1. There is still the possibility to kill the police dispatcher, but that will be removed, or changed for another destroyable (and repairable) antenna, because the cops have no longer the option to force civilian to cooperate and put him into the dispatcher's tent.

2. Also there is a bug that when 1 civilian and 1 cop is killed, you will se a message that police choppers are available for use, but they will become really available only after there are 2 civilians killed.

3. The maximum distance between a cop and the other unit when "checking papers", seems to be too small. Somone told me that he had to go so close to the unit so he literally poked the unit's eye by his rifle. I havent checked this yet, but for me it allways worked ok, but maybe there is some bug, i am not sure.

Where to get the version 6.0rc2, and what addons will you need:

You must download the addons from http://5133p39.wz.cz/files/psycho_slayer/6.0rc2/ or preferably from any of the other available sources:

awmi2p.rar (6.8 MB, exact filesize of the awmi2p.pbo is 7 856 361)

This is the police helicopter - "PZL Mi-2 Police V1.2"

BEWARE! If you already have this addon, you need to download it ONLY if you want to put it on a dedicated server.

The original addon contains some textures in wrong dimensions, which cause the DEDICATED server to crash.

This RAR is the same addon, but with these textures corrected. So for your client, you can use the original version, but for dedicated server you need to download mine corrected version (or any other corrected version, if there is any).

The unmodified version (with the wrong texture! ) can be downloaded from here: http://ofp.gamepark.cz/index.php?showthis=5765

The wrong texture is "mi2lopat.pac" which is in bad aspect ratio (512x32). You can correct it yourself if you want, just resize the texture to 512x64.

dmx_police_1.1.rar (3.5 MB, exact filesize of the dmx_policie.pbo is 8 412 236)

This is the DMX police pack - "Nogovan Policie Units, v 1.1"

It containts the police Volga, Jeep, BRDM, Motorcycle, Boat, etc.

If you already have this addon (in version 1.1), then you don't need to download this.

gaz24mx.rar (4.3 MB, exact filesize of the gaz24mx.pbo is 12 896 671)

This is the "Volga GAZ 24 addon, version 1.5b (beta) " which is needed by the DMX police pack.

If you already have this addon, be sure it is really the version 1.5b.

If you are not sure, then you better download this too.

This is my addon with the radio sounds.

If you already have this addon from version 5.0rc4, you don't need to download it again, it should be the same.

Few minor bugs corrected, wasn't thoroughly tested yet (how about you help me with that ;-)

Some people reported trouble downloading the files directly from my webpage, so i have finally forced myself to register at Filefront, and put the files there (But only the 6.0rc3 version. I am willing to mirror older versions too, but because i am uber-lazy, only after someone asks me to).

I found a bug with radio car, it keep flooding and making loop overwrite sound when turning on.

On the cop 4x4 car.

Also can't we take more hostage as Psycho?

I dont understand the "radio bug", could you describe it again, please?

Psycho can't take hostages and Cops can't "force cooperation" - i removed these feature for now, because there was a bug i am still unable to trace, which caused the server to crash (btw. i described the problem in the topic Join GrpNull, kill it, crash to desktop).

But don't worry, the feature will be back soon, i have an idea how to do this in a different (and hopefuly bug free) way.

Well once you turn on cop vehicules radio, the radio keep launching the 'wave', meaning after 1or2 second you already hear 10 wav at the same time.

Thanks, i found the bug.

Corrected in version 6.0rc4, which includes the "Take hostage" and "Force cooperation" actions, AND which i will be testing tonight on the eVAC dedicated server - if everything will be ok, i'll post the new version on filefront)

Version 6.0rc4 is available for download!!!

Tonights testing proved the new version to be stable, and all features working correctly!

I think this is the last "Release Candidate" before the 6.0 milestone.

Now you can even use the "Take hostage" and "Force cooperation" options, they are back and working! No more CTDs.

Heh :-)) In this case it's not the lazyness, but i don't know how.

How do i change title of existing topic?? Believe me, i hae tried, but i didn't find any option for that, so i decided it is not possible - or is it??

nono, or maybe it's just me, but there isn't any inputfield where i could write the topic's title. There is only the TEXTAREA for the message body, not for the topic.

...i am thinking about changing the name of the mission, maybe people don't like it, i'll appreciate any suggestions.

btw. It's weird how many people are trying to connect to our server when we are playing this mission, but they can't because they doesn't have the addons. Why is that? I even put all the files on filefront, and still people wanna play, but they have no addons. Ok, maybe they don't know about this topic, but when they connect to our server, the link to my webpage is the first thing they see, but they still doesn't have the addons.

Yeah, but they don't have the time to see the message before they got kicked when requesting addons.

I would be could if Armed Assault support Http redirect autodownload.
