EiZei 0 Posted April 13, 2005 Not really looking forward to it since it does not seem to feature the developers of the original JA games.
TabloMaxos 0 Posted April 13, 2005 It propably uses silent storm graphics engine (or it seems that way)
honchoblack 2 Posted April 13, 2005 too bad they dropped the old concept, and make a mission based game out of it i think it was the liberty to decide what city to liberate next, that made the game fun, pressing it into a mission schemed game wont do it any good, hope they prove me wrong
Baphomet 0 Posted April 13, 2005 Quote[/b] ]too bad they dropped the old concept, and make a mission based game out of it Totally lazy in my opinion. Yeah the original team from sir tech isn't in on this, it's some crazy russian developer I think. The fact that it's not a dynamic campain completely annihilates my interest in it. I fucking hate limitations imposed by making a story centric game. First of all if it's anything like silent storm then I'd be annoyed. Silent storm for all it's potentially useful 3d graphics had the WORST camera ever. With the advent of 3d technology in a genre like that you'd expect three dimensional graphics would enable you to see the battlefield better. OHHH NO. Says Nival! crashdome 3 Posted April 13, 2005 SOW is looking to create a dynamic campaign (MP) this summer for OFP. We are already working on an island and doing a huge amount of modification to the existing SOW script set. Features we will hope to include: custom voices for each individual 'Merc' (no more "Oh no.. 2 is down!" crap) custom equipment (attachments maybe?) ;) all those are similar to JA style It won't be completely JA, but is influenced by it and other games of the genre. This is WIP and not officially announced.. so you heard nothing from me.. wink wink We require alot of cooperation from existing mods to alter configs of various units and alot of this idea is in pre-production phase. So no official word on any of this. ;) ;)
Antichrist 0 Posted April 14, 2005 That game is gonna be shit. Every single game MiSTLand made was crap. End of story. The latest one they released - Alpha Antiterror was buggy and virtually unplayable, with graphics glitches and non-existent AI. They released russian version of it first and now fixing all the bugs for the international release. I seriously hope they go bankrupt and somebody else actually finishes the game. Otherwise its gonna be the death of JA.
der bastler 0 Posted April 14, 2005 Every single game MiSTLand made was crap.Wanna know what Mist means in German? The original concept of JA and JA2 was ingenious. Explore the area in realtime, fight turn-based. Chose which map to conquer next, where to place how many guards etc. Meet several interesting NPCs with own stories, hunt for the scope for your weapon and hear Steroid making funny comments... Why the heck does it seem to me that PC games industry is going down?
mr burns 132 Posted April 14, 2005 everybodys out for a quick dime these days .. if everyone get´s his shit sold not matter how stupid or expensive it is why should´nt game developers go the same way
Gollum1 0 Posted April 14, 2005 It's mission-based and I heard it has realtime elements, so what the f*** does it have to do with JA? Way to shit on an amazing series. It looks like Commandos 3 or some boring crap like that.
Antichrist 0 Posted April 14, 2005 Well there is still some hope for the genre http://www.e5brigade.ru/gallery.php?action=screenshot Unfortunately the site is only in russian at the moment. But it looks pretty good so far.

Foxtrot87 0 Posted April 14, 2005 MistLand is surely a bad choice of a developer for such a great game as JA. I can't understand why they didn't make a deal with nival, i really enjoyed Silent Storm with its great graphics, physics, etc.
bn880 5 Posted April 15, 2005 Yeah as a huge JA2 fan, I am still sceptical about this announcement. I am also unsure if making it 3D real time is really the best thing, as it will require a vast array of features to be interesting in that mode, as if to create another OFP engine and place JA2 in it. Sounds like SOW mod may out do them accidentally. We'll see... not holding breath.
EiZei 0 Posted April 15, 2005 I think the silent storm engine is just fine. Too few games feature enviroment destructible as X-com 1, 2 and 3 and they were made over 10 years ago for god's sake.
Balschoiw 0 Posted April 15, 2005 Levels in silent storm were pretty small. The camera sucked, the gameplay was good. I liked it... at the point where the robo suits pop in, it lost a lot of fun for me. To destroy parts of houses and such was a nice feature, but a JA follow-up with no dynamic campaign is bull. That was the fun I liked. If it´s not implemented in JA 3d it´s not worth much for me.

Sounds like SOW mod may out do them accidentally.   We'll see... not holding breath. haha.. you lost hope in us? We're just a bit of a slower development team.. ;) It's not going to be a direct JA carbon-copy, but we have some interesting features in dev and are looking to create that 'merc' feel. Especially with many different personalities/voices (and definitely a dynamic campaign) . Like I said, though, we are *hoping* to get this underway soon...we don't have anything structured yet but I've actually alotted time this summer specifically for this project. I would be seriously concerned about Mistland though if our measily attempt at introducing this concept to OFP does prove better than JA3D... Regarding the 'vast array of features'... What would you consider necessities for a 3d strategy like this?
Gollum1 0 Posted April 16, 2005 Jagged alliance deadly games was mission based. You caught me, I've only really played JA2 but I've finished it three times. Arulco in OFP would be cool, it has bombed out cities, poorer and wealthier cities, ancient ruins, a prison, underground research laboratory, mines (and possibly some creepy crawlies beneath), shining capital city, two airstrips, industrial areas... A Tonal-type mercenary campaign in this setting would be heaven for me.
Baphomet 0 Posted April 16, 2005 Holy shit. Apparently the game is going to be realtime with pause For fuck sakes. Anyhow. I'm looking forward to a dynamic SOW campaign. As long as it doesn't require many addons.
crashdome 3 Posted April 17, 2005 Anyhow. I'm looking forward to a dynamic SOW campaign. As long as it doesn't require many addons. My thoughts exactly. We are looking to produce it in one add-on pack that includes island, units, weapons, etc...but this is why the planning stage has taken us so long... we are looking to produce a pack based on existing models/units donated from mods and other artists.. we then put in custom configs to specifically handle the features required in such a genre (voices, init handlers, etc..) thus it is one single pack taylored specifically for this campaign. It was the only way we could accomplish our ideas. Hopefully it does not end up too big either... that is my biggest concern right now. Expect posted info on our site mid-May. I've been stalking the RPG, JA, Fallout mission idea threads of various OFP sites trying to get a feel for what people want in that style. Rune and I have the same general goals but two different paths when it came to what we wanted so we might even have another style of campaign to work on after the 'Mercs' campaign. He is going to be away for several months and I hope to get most of 'Mercs' done so we can also concentrate on his idea. Anyways.. I am rambling away about stuff that is barely Work-In-Progress.. I'll leave this post as a final teaser and allow everyone to discuss JA3D P.S. btw.. we are looking for help in the modeling/config dept. we have resources but could always use more. So if you are looking for work and strategy semi-RPG is your style, feel free to drop us a line.
