Parachute invulnerable?

Hi!

Have you ever noticed to somebody(even AI) kill a flying parachute? I haven't. sad_o.gif

it is forbidden to shoot at paras (by the Geneva Convention or something similar)... biggrin_o.gif

In C&C Generals I allow my foe to retrieve his pilots, problem is that they just get forgotten...

maybe in the next patch, a pilot that isn't controlled for five minutes turns neutral? and will join the first unit they see?

well, like I said: in OFP I allways tried to spare unarmed people, unless they are part of the objective... too be the rest of my clan didn't felt thesame... ahwell, it gives you a diffrent look on your friends... crazy_o.gif

The original parachute model is missing a Fire / Hit Geometry LOD. sad_o.gif

You can, but you have to modify the data3d.pbo for that.

You'll get modified file errors in multiplayer then.

Do AI not target the units in the chute then?  Can't honestly remember. If not, that would be a worthy fix.

Why would anyone want to engage the chute rather than its cargo? My gut feeling is that a few rounds of small arms fire is unlikely to seriously knacker the chute itself - they already have a big vent hole so a few 5.56mm diameter ones shouldn't be an issue.  But I wait to be corrected . . .

My understanding of the Geneva Convention is that it is quite right and proper to engage descending paratroopers - they are, after all,  combatants on their way to kill you.  What ought not to be engaged is aircrew who have bailed out of their stricken aircraft - presumably they are not deemed combatant at that point and gives them a chance to give up. In practice, of course, it may be different.

AI does targets parashutes, but since they can't hit it, it's futile.

Like I said: if someone makes a shootable shute, but gives it a low priority to AI, maybe people can implement it in E.Ecp, Y2K3 , or FlashFX UR smile_o.gif
