If Northern Ireland was given to the republic of Ireland the chance are they would kill each other. I can just see it turning in another Kosvo with ethnic cleansing happening.

The way I see it, this has gone way beyond religious issues. This is more or less the same situation as in Kashmir. Big bad neighbour took away piece of small neighbour, they fight over it, and the people who actually live there get all the heat.

Basically what started it all was some IRA men started to go up to that school in question pretending they were dropping off kids when they werent, and this pissed the protestants off big time.

Mainly becuase there was some well known figures involved, like the shankill bomber (killed over 12 on shankill road) and other known terrorists and Sinn Fien members

This made all the residents pissed off and they started to block the road and both sides went for a publilicay stunt claiming each other were the victims.

Its sad in a way cus the kids got caught in the middle of it all

but next time u see the news look at how well orgainesed the riots are, each side plans these WELL in advance and then claim the other side started it

as u can see im fuked off big time with it all as ive known it all my life since i live in this shit hole of a country :/

Theres more to it than that, my dads just come back from NI after 6 months, its not the IRA that are causnig all of the problems.

Also when you see the news look how organised the police and army are.

Trust me never be a rioter, I take part in exercises with the local police force and im one of the rioters.

the shields will break you legs, arms, ribs, neck etc in a real riot.

I try to comment as little as possible about the N. Ireland "problem". One thing I will say though, when a "political" group says that Catholic teachers and Catholic postal workers are legitimate targets solely because they work in mainly protestant areas then to me that's them saying "We're no longer a political group with political ideals, we're a bunch of evil murdering scum and the sooner we die at whomever's hands the better off N.Ireland and the world will be as a whole".

Unfortunately yes there are "people" like that on both sides of the religious divide, all I can say is the sooner they're all dead the sooner N.Ireland can build a future with some semblence of peace, safety and happiness.

How do you tell apart Catholics from Protestants? If I was there, I'd have a hard time telling who's side anyone's on. It's not like the Catholics have tiger stripe fatigues on and the Protestants ware solid green, is it? Luckily for athists like me, I've got no problems with any religions.

I'm not going to start fucking people out of it because of this topic so I am going to be nice and civil about it. Being a Catholic Irish man myself living in the Republic of Ireland, I think that it's rediculos the the Loyalists are still doing their best to cause trouble in the north (you might think that I'm taking side's here but I'll explain further on). MadMike is right, it has been going on for hundred's of year's, since the year 1692 for those who don't know. It all started on the signing of the treaty in 1692. The treaty was for the British to pull out of Ireland but we are still waiting for that to happen. Each side is blaming the other as to who is causing the trouble up there. The IRA have shown a good sign be decomishoning their arm's but still the Loyalists insist on causing act's of violence towards the Catholic comunity.

The trouble going on up there at the moment is not "old news" (as stated by Red Oct). The Loyalists are at it again, targeting inocent children aged 9-14 from getting to school all because they are Catholic. They had reached an "agreement" a few month's ago when this started to happen at first but now they are breaking that "agreement" once again like they did in 1692.

The group that is claiming responsiblity for this call themself's the "Red Hand of Ulster". They also claimed the responsibility for the recent murder of a young Catholic man aged 19 just because he was indeed Catholic.

It is a no win situation for both side's because of what I stated above, "each side blames the other". I have changed my thinking since the last time that this particular topic came up. I do wan't peace but if it mean's that we have to fight for that peace then so be it. But I would rather see it resolved through peace talk's (all of wich have failed in the past).

That is all I am going to say on this issue . . . Try not to "dis" anything about what I have said above because it is a very serious matter.

To answer Die Alive's question you can tell a Catholic from a Prodistant bu the way the talk, well actually by the way they prnounce the letter H.

The Original Irish Republican Army's (IRA) goal was to achieve independence from Britain and the Monarchy.

Since then however, numerous splinter factions of the IRA have caused what was originally a war for independance (albeit one that the government of Ireland didn't support) into a fully fledged religious terror campaign.

The Original IRA actually seems to want peace. Unfortunately, the splinter factions created by people they recruited keep marring any hope of peace talks.

The place is screwed ,only time can begin to heal the festering wounds in places like that, and only if enough influential people die without similarly minded replacements

Sorry MP but that DID sound like you were very much taking sides. Both sides are bastards, loyalist scum and republican thugs ,they both come from the same industrial sized vat of mindless hatred spawned and alienated by the same fractured society of ill considered and misdirected rage. Both sides could see a mirror of themselves in the other, they are sides of the same coin (with a superficial facade of differing pseudo-ideologies), its ludicrous.

Anyway more people have died in LA gangwars, so i find it pathetic. All the foreign media should fuck off and deprive both sides of the oxygen of publicity. The paramilitaries are like schoolchildren daring each other to go one step further than the other in front of an expectant crowd.

HAha

'The Catholics and protestant thing'

another Foxer classic.

William of Orange and the papacy were battling it out hundreds of years ago and some are still at it today. Nothing short of cultural holocaust could break down the walls of

the two sides long enough for them to realise that they are brothers, whats more they are some of increasingly few 'Christians' in a now secular western international

uber culture which has eclipsed and made redundant their petty struggle

Digging up old threads = very bad.

Now, normally we *do* allow it *if* something valueable has been added to the discussion.

However, in your case I think that you are using an inappropriate tone. I recommend taking a cold shower.
