Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted February 1, 2005 Flashpoint Germany Homepage Has anyone ever mentioned this game before. It is a rather demanding strategy game and damm hell looks like it it is being based on Operation Flashpoint . ... but actually they are just copying style, Name, and scenario... Besides that I must say it doesnt look to bad... has been a while since a good Round-Based Strategy game came out

hellfish6 7 Posted February 1, 2005 I don't see how they're copying anything at all. This is a turn-based, operational and tactical level wargame, not a squad based FPS. The name is vaguely familiar and the scenario is only slightly similar.

Is the term Flashpoint really that commonly used? especially in computer games? Are the screens from the editor realy that much different to the styles used in OFP? I dont want to say they copy the idea.. but they definetly copy style and hope for our positive associations when we hear "flashpoint"

hellfish6 7 Posted February 1, 2005 Well... it would be similar to me if the conflict took place in a fictional European nation, not the plains of Germany. When I think Flashpoint Germany, I think of a more serious historical study of "What if?". When I think Operation Flashpoint and it's battle in Nogova/Malden, I think of it as a game. sputnik monroe 102 Posted February 2, 2005 Quote[/b] ]hexagons are fun! Yeah they are. I use to play Steel Panthers III a few years back and later SPWW2. None of them work on my XP machine though. I tend to enjoy turn based wargames. I usually prefer the company or lower level battles though. Battalion and up sort of loses the connection for me and ends up feeling more like checkers. Madus_Maximus 0 Posted February 2, 2005 The term "Flashpoint" is generally refering to a single incident that triggers a war. The "flashpoint" of WW1 was the assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand which tipped things over the edge.

You should try Steel Panther : World at War if you like the steel panther scale. Unlike Steel Panther :Mobile Battle Tank and Steel Panther : World War 2 , it is reported to work very well on the window XP. That and the fact it is a very good free wargame that has more than 200 scenarios included and a battle generator, plus superb sounds.
WhoCares 0 Posted February 3, 2005 Another game of the same company got me back into the turn-based wargames: War in the Pacific Basically the successor of the (at least in those circles) legendary Pac(ific)War, it covers WWII from the East Coast of the USA to the Indian west coast. Now, I spend almost all of my gaming time in pushing ships, airgroups and infantry units across half of the planet....... (the logistics are driving me mad ) Started the big campaign (whole war) in August last year and am now in Oct. 1942 The whole war would take me at least another two years to finish

You might also add the prices of the books I bought along with it, to get the right mood (and get a clue of what I am supposed to do), John Toland: The Rising Sun : The Decline and Fall of the Japanese Empire, 1936-1945 , Sun Tzus 'Art of War' and Nicolo Machivellis 'The Prince'. It was the only game I bought last year and gave me countless hours of gaming pleasure. Furthermore, I have been taught many history lessons on the WitP Forum and by browsing the web on the topic. So all in all, I consider it an investment, well worth its price. In the end it is not more than what I payed for OFP, Red Hammer and Resistance. As they do not plan to continue the development of this game engine, you might wait until they publish the source code of the game, maybe in five or ten years
