PROPER M2 .50 anyone....?

Recommended Posts

Here is the real one....

see anything different....?

I would really really appreciate it if we could have this proper m2 tripod, instead of the retarded-looking 4-foot high one that we have in OFP right now. It just does not look right at all....

anyone....?

Nope, that gun in the picture is most definitely the Browning .50 cal, even says so on the site I got the pic from, which is a site a lot of people here use as reference.

So Please BIS (all you gotta do is shorten the tripod) or some budding a-lone-wolf type addon guy, fix it confused.gif

Well I got the pic from securityarms.com, but that is another link that adds to my case biggrin.gif

Couldn't use it to fire behind the bags then smile.gif. Maybe this was the reason to raise the pod...

The M2 0.50cal in OFP is mounted on an AA Lafette as it looks, similar to the one we use for the MG3.

I don´t know if a similar thing exists for the M2, as both hands are required on the weapon to aim and fire the Browning.

The MG3 AA tripod configuration is supposed to be fired with one hand on the trigger group, buttstock in the shoulder and the other hand tight grip around the upper tripod section to counter recoil and keep it steady.

The M2 as displayed in OFP in it´s current config looks to me as it won´t probably hit shit, because the tripod is prone to "dance" back and forth and eventually collapse, especially with this heavy calibre and resulting recoil.

Please fix.

Not M2 related but something important for the game.

In Finland we use 12.7mm NSV on tripod that can be freely adjusted to desired firing height from ground firing to AA firing. Russians should have NSV as their machinegun with such tripod that allows you to choose two different firing positions - AA firing and ground firing.

I think they made the pod so tall, so the gunner could stand up. Notice how the gunner simply rotate around the tripod axis when you turn the gun. If he was lying down, he would slide round in a huge arc. Maybe a compromise would work - a sitting gunner?

A sitting/kneeling gunner with a 135 degree field of fire would be more than acceptable

Usually when fighting from a prepared defensive position you would stand up in the trench firing the M2. The rear legs on the M2-Tripod can be pulled out to 1,5 m (they are telescopic) so they can rest on the "back" side of the trench, while gumnner stands between the legs. There actually is an AA mount for the M2-HMG which has some resemblance to that one in the game - i've never seen the AA mount in real life - only in the field maunal.

Yes, 130 degree firing arc would work, it would actually make you place the MG stratigically not just every where.

Exactly. The mount in the game just now is just not very realistic. It would be a very small amount of work just to shorten the tripod and have the gunner sit or kneel behind the M2, rather than stand like they do just now. As for limiting the firing arc, I have no idea how they would go about doing that but other vehicles in the game have such a limit already (30mm cannon in choppers) so I am sure that they could quite easily include this improvement as part of the next patch if they started soon

That's just my little wish for OFP

Can be done quite easily, its in the config.bin of most of the Addons, (havn't checked base vehicles cause I be too dumb confused.gif )

If he was lying down, he would slide round in a huge arc-

It wouldn't look any more funny than when your legs get hit and you driving in the jeep laying down on the seats in multiplayer.

This would look a lot less funny than trying to lower the setpos of  a M2Machinegun so that his upper torso is sticking up from the ground, too BTW.

Lowering the sand bags is easy!

You have a good point. The crouching would look better than laying down.wow.gif

Maybe a compromise could be a 130 (thats the idea, thanks) degree rotation; limiting it to be  stationary ,kind of like the ones used in RTCW.

One question : Would incresing the Rate of Fire be too hard?

Its too damn slow. putt---putt---putt,etc. ought to be chacew-chacew-chacew. (insert realistic sound here) biggrin.gif

I think BIS need to address this because attacking a fortified position is still part of modern warfare and it is a part of it that is missing from their game. The least that could be done is to add a decent static MG to the game so that we could set up good defensive positions that don't just look goofy sad.gif

Don't get me wrong, this is the best game I have ever played but right from the start I've always thought 'isn't this game missing something....?'

well, that's just what I think
