TermiPete 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Hi Arne In case you wanted another pic of a M88 - here's a profile I scanned in from a book: M88 Scan Hope it is of some use TP
Arne 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Thanx TermiPete, I think I'll use it as the icon for my M88. Does your book tell us anything about the armour? bye, Arne
SPQR 0 Posted February 8, 2005 In the Jane's AFV Recognition Handbook (1992), they estimate the M88 ARV's maximum armour to 20mm (steel). I'll scan you its 2 pages this afternoon
SPQR 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Don't know if you found this : M88 Recovery Vehicle, from Gary's Combat Vehicle Reference Guide Protection level : M88 / M88A1 : Hull and cab armor protect against small-arms fire and shell fragments M88A2 : Hull and cab armor protect against 30mm projectiles
Arne 0 Posted February 8, 2005 thanx for the sources, so the M88 shouldn't have a higher armor value than a M113 for instance? And how can I test if the A2 is protected (in OFP) against 30mm AP shells? Does that mean that a BMP2 cannot kill it at any distance with infinite number of shells? thynx, Arne
SPQR 0 Posted February 8, 2005 so the M88 shouldn't have a higher armor value than a M113 for instance? And how can I test if the A2 is protected (in OFP) against 30mm AP shells? Does that mean that a BMP2 cannot kill it at any distance with infinite number of shells? That would be true in reality but OFP damage management doesn't work this way. While having a rather thin armor, its mass should allow it to sustain more damage points than a M113 or a BMP. Armor (BIS standards) : - M113 : 150 - M60 Patton : 300 - BMP : 200 - Shilka : 250 ( Its hull protection level is slightly superior to M113's and its turret protection level is miserable ) - T-72 : 400 - T-55G : 300 Something around 250 points may be acceptable ? Arne 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Something around 250 points may be acceptable ? Think so. My estimates were 210 for M88A1 260 for M88A2
TermiPete 0 Posted February 9, 2005 Nothing useful in the book. TP
Bobcatt666 0 Posted February 9, 2005 M88 armor valuses should be on par with the M48/60 series tanks, seeing it shares the same hull compaontants and martials when they were produced. Seen a fair number of them in use that had been taken to nam, and ambushed by VC and had eaten many RPG-2s. Crews armements constisted of M2HBA2 50 cal. Browning heavy machine gun. with the tripod, and T & E for dismounting the gun. 3 M72A2 LAW (light antitank weapons) 2 M16A1/M16A2 Automatic rifles 2 M3A1 Grease guns 4 M1911a1/A92F pistols The M88A1 is cabale of lifting a M109A6 alone, but the M1 serires tanks proved to be too heavy for it as it had diffculty in recovering the Abrams, thus a Abrams based version was created, the M88A2. A standard requirment of the army is like vehicles capable of recovery of like vehicles. Usualy the M88s are only used mostly for engine removal or loading stuff, Or servicing heavilly to totally destroyed vehicles. Commonly one is dispached per btn, with a few smaller recovery vehicles. and will move to a postion rise a baddly damaged vehicles and load it onto a flatbed truck so it can be moved to a rearend support repair area. And be proporly repaired.
Arne 0 Posted July 25, 2005 M88's status is "on hold" due to the lack of an experienced texturer in our team. Nevertheless work is continuing on other sections. Today: Entrenchments! Single 'stand alone' entrenchments aren't too uncommon and have been seen among OFP-Addons quite often, but this is something new: Team Yankee Trench-Construction-Set (TCS). By now 40 different parts to be connected to each other. Have a look: More screenshots on our homepage at Team Yankee TCS will come in different versions for different island textures (by now 2 for Nogova, Malden, Everon, Kolgujev, Desert and Arctic). Adapting it to other islands isn't a great deal so we hope that you may support this project. thanx, Arne
