nordin dk 0 Posted January 7, 2002 M21 for the zoom function... Perhaps the Dragunov packs a harder punch, I don't know. Is there any difference in the weapons besides the zoom?
Chan 1 Posted January 7, 2002 The M21 has a 20 round magazine and the Dragunov has 10, that is because the M21 is just a M14 with a added scope. Other than that I don't really see a difference... but the Dragunov is more handsome than the M21
Satchel 0 Posted January 8, 2002 I prefer the SVD because of it´s horizontal deflection shooting markings, good for first kill capability while shooting on moving targets...what happens most of the time actually. I also find it faster to aim, no elevation knobs to turn (zoom in/out), so i can counter a target faster and imho more precise.

It actually dials in the crosshair depending on distance...
Satchel 0 Posted January 8, 2002 BTW a bolt action rifle would be nice, semi automatic for sniper rifles plain sucks. I´d prefer the old K98 Wehrmachts Karabiner over every Dragunov, M21 or any other semi auto operated rifle. Some good bolt action sniper rifles: - M24 (7.62x51mm NATO) w Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm Long Range M3 Scope ============================================= - M40A1-A4 (7.62x51mm Nato) w Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm Long Range M3 scope ============================================= - AI Arctic Warfare Super Magnum 338 Lapua (8.60x70mm) ============================================= - Remington 700 DM Light Tactical (7.62x51mm NATO) w Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm Long Range M3 scope ============================================= - Mauser 86SR (7.62x51mm NATO)
Chan 1 Posted January 8, 2002 The Karbiner 98K and M24 rifles would both be nice guns in Flashpoint. I still have trouble hitting targets with the Dragunov, could someone offer tips on how to effectively use the range scale on the Dragunov scope?
Satchel 0 Posted January 8, 2002 Here is the original SVD manual as online document: http://kalashnikov.guns.ru/manual/english/svd/
King Kong 0 Posted January 8, 2002 The M21 is a far more accurate weapon then the SVD Dragunov. The SVD (Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova)-Dragunov Sniping Rifle was the first rifle designed from scratch as a sniper rifle. to extend the range of the average rifle squad. The SVD can be expected to shoot 2 MOA with quality ammo, it's basicly a AK47 wich fires Russian 7.62x54mm cartridges wich are extremely deadly. The PSO-1 IR scope the SVD uses is still one of the most expensive scope in the world. I use the M21 for long ranges and SVD for short ranges
Dawdler 0 Posted January 8, 2002 I use the Dragunov all the way. The M21 is awfully hard to hit with accuratly at long ranges, at least with me. And I like the Dragunov because it has a cooler name
Antichrist 0 Posted January 8, 2002 Well i kinda like M21 more cause it has 20 rounds, but I really want to see this beauty in the game
Adviss 0 Posted January 8, 2002 Both "sniper" rifles arent truly snipers weapons in the most sense- the dragonuv is far from accurate in RL unless your using match-grade ammunition, and even then, your looking at around 2 MOA. Effective firing range is around 600 meters max which falls short of bolt action sniper rifles which go into the 800 range and above. (1,200+ is unreasonable for any bolt action unless youve got a 12.7mm or higher caliber). The m21 is also a uneffective sniper rifle-although its a accuracy is rated higher, its still a semi automatic match grade m14. The problem with a semi-auto is its harder to clean, has more moving parts, and ejects the shell after firing-which gives away your position in some circumstances. But for operation flashpoint both rifles serve their purpose-to extend the firing capabilites of a squad from 300-400 to 600 meters. And a bolt action could be put in (in the future, when the correct tools are released) but i shudder to think what the animation would look like when the bolt is pulled back. The M40a1 is my pick, though, as its a bit better imo than the m24 (the army is a bit behind the marines in sniping). See Satchels post above for other nice rifles- the L96a1 is another good one, but its simply the AW/P reconfigured for the british army. (as i remember it, some one correct me if im wrong)
Guest Posted January 8, 2002 SHouldn't we stick with weapons that either the Russian army or the US army uses? Unless we start adding new branches of the military or armies from around the world...
Rogue 0 Posted January 8, 2002 The G36 and STG-77 are neither used by the US, maybe see it this way, Special Operation Forces have an wider and more exlusive array of weapons at their Disposal than regular units. A G22 (Arctic Warfare ) or Remington 700 DM would be not far way off to implement, at least not as off as the G36 and STG-77. This also gives addon designers more freedom of nationalities (uniforms) to model. Like Adviss my vote would go to the M40A1, for a dedicated true sniper rifle, although i wouldn´t mind seing any of the rifles listed in OFP, because they´re all good. Guest Posted January 8, 2002 Hmm this one could get ugly My personall oppinion is that the SVD is better for longer range shots because the zoom seems to be greater, but I find the M21 a better mid range battlefield rifle because of it's accuracy, mid-range zoom and large mag capacity..Having said that I would like so see the M21 replaced by a bolt action of some description because at times the M21 can be a little "Uber"
arabfootterrorist 0 Posted January 9, 2002 i just purchased a m21 for bout 2800 and i got the 6x40 scope, and of course a harris bipod. its 5 million times better than any bolt action i have ever shot. people who trust there lives on a bolt action died back in ww1. so whats up now? SpaceAlex 0 Posted January 9, 2002 I prefer M21 because of the zoom-in, out and because it has more ammo. I also like the sound of it.

They have their place, and one of them is precision shooting. If you need to deliver a single shoot with the utmost accuracy, a bolt-action is still the way to go. Wobble 1 Posted January 9, 2002 My personal favorit 'sniper rifle' is my own.. Its much more accurate than my AR-15 though they are about equal out to 200 yards... I dont know the exact grouping on it though, but when i sighted it in (2 inches high at 150 yards) from a sandbag bench rest my grouping was small enough to where after 4 or 5 shots there was just one large hole.. so far my best shot is a coyote I killed from around 300 yards from a standing position.. I hit it in the ass but it didnt get far. the only thing I wish i could change would be the to change it from a .223 to a 280.. the .223 is a really nice round and shoots really flat, but I wish I had a little more pop.. as for OFP I like the M21, its a PITA to learn but ya can get really good with it. ralphwiggum 6 Posted January 9, 2002 hmmm... hard to choose. well, M21 is better in terms of being able to adjust range...sometimes you get careless and let enemy wander into your territory too close..then having a fixed magnification won't be helpful in the game.... however, if you are looking at 600m or above, Dragunov really kicks ass. I would prefer SVD if I had to shoot someone over 400m. When I first played game, M21 gave me some nods, but SVD gave me a 'wow!'. But I had hardtime adjusting to SVD than to M21...so i guess it kinda got equal afterwards.
Assault (CAN) 1 Posted January 10, 2002 I prefer the M-21 in OFP because of its larger mag. I can do well with both the Dragunov and the M-21, but in the end the M-21 can have twice the ammo. This needs to be fixed in the game, you should be able to carry 2 SVD mags per ammo slot. Its realistic, since the Dragunov's 7.62x54R round is roughly the same size as the 7.62x51 NATO round. Though the NATO round has a little more "umph" and range over the Soviet round. It would be nice to see an M40A1 in the game, since it was in use in 1985 and would be my choice for a sniper rifle. The Barret Light .50 cal would also be a nice "fun gun" in the game. Does anyone know if or what the Soviets used for a bolt-action sniper rifle that was in use in '85? Would be nice to know. Tyler P.S. Wobble, is that an HK SL8 that I see? How much did that set you back?
EveronVetsAgainstTheWar 0 Posted January 10, 2002 M21 for the adjustable scope, and more ammo.
Wobble 1 Posted January 10, 2002 Wobble, is that an HK SL8 that I see? How much did that set you back? yea, I got it through my Uncle who knew a guy in Houston, all told it cost me $1400, which is an *ok* deal.. you can get them from a little cheaper than that to around 2k if ya really get screwed.. I just wish they made different mags for it, i dont like the see through one.
Mister Frag 0 Posted January 10, 2002 I thought about getting one when they first appeared in the US, but didn't like the fact that the only magazines available were of the 10-round variety. This shortcoming has since been rectified (too late for us Californians, however) -- there is a company that has a replacement magazine well kit that will allow you to use standard M-16 magazines; if you are interested, check out http://www.specialweaponsllc.com
