Lets make our own VBS1

Recommended Posts

I was thinking how cool it would be, to have everything from VBS1 into our very own little Flashpoint Resistance.

We are all creaming ourselves about VBS1, but lack the funds to purchase such an expensive product. Like me.

I was looking at some of the stuff VBS1 had, and realized there is nothing that I see in VBS1 that could'nt be delivered to Flashpoint Resistance without some heavy mod making.

So I was thinking a mod team should get together and build a free mod, and get it as identical as possible to VBS1.

What do you think.

Well, SpecOp9,

I think not only is it a great idea, but I think it would be awsome having both Jungle Winter and desert enviorments all in one simple download.

Not only that, but it would also be like a major Flashpoint upgrade if done right.  It will also keep me busy until the arrival of OFP2 which was postponed.

I also think it's a good idea because we can add whatever we damn well please to the mod.  Like large city battles in New York, or Boston, SWAT addons, Police addons, and other things we may find interest in.

Not only that, but I also see that it could include online play, unlike VBS1. SO we would be getting a bigger bang for no buck.

SpecOp9, you are genious, please sleep with me tonight.

SpecOp9, I sleep with you every night!

Yes, I agree you displayed some very factual information.

The only hard part would be getting the information from VBS1 into our little heads.  Maybey we can find somebody who owns VBS1, Like Jahve, and they can help us create the free VBS1 for every community member.  I think it's the greatest idea yet.  Kiss me all over.

Also, I think it would be necissary to group together people who would be interested in helping with such a thing.  Do you have any suggestions community members?  Or should I talk to myself some more?

I know you guys want it

Tee Hee ! Look at the little bunny smile_o.gif .

But yeah, this is a pretty good idea, the only problem I can see is some mega lag issues for "normal" computers.

Anybody should be willing to make this even if it would cause lag on lower spec computers.

Lag compared to cash is the difference  wink_o.gif

lol

Not only that, but there could be 2 seperate downloads.

1 for low spec computers, so people can just get their hands on the VBS1-like content

and 2 for higher spec computers. Just to get all the new features.

VBS1 light and VBS1 Full :P

SpecOp9 that's a nasty case of spamming you have there, I can give you something to help it, looks something like this 4thwl.jpg

VBS1 actually seems to perform a bit better than OFPR on my machine. Certainly I can ramp the viewing distance up higher so lag wouldn't be the issue.

You know, you probably could replicate most of the non-training specific stuff in VBS1 in Flashpoint (i.e. the Islands and the Unit modules).

The main issues would be the quality of the addons and realism of the addons.

Nothing in VBS1 is the way it is because someone thought it'd be neat even though they knew it was unrealistic. People are actually getting paid to make the sexy stuff for VBS1. It's their day job.

I just don't see much stuff for res that is of the same standard. The people that are still making stuff that good can only devote so much time to it.

Just trying to get people interested in the thread. I really want something like this to happen.

Screw the mission editing competition, I rather have VBS1 for everybody.

I can fully respect that, but spamming it, getting it closed and getting another WL isn't the way to go about it now is it? smile_o.gif

Well, no.

But should'nt it depend on the severity of the spam?

I think that it would be cool to do a huge community mod for the Cold War with several different countries and terrains. We could have a big World War 3 Campaign and plus with all the stuff we make from that you can put it into other ideas too.

A lot of the stuff is already made anyway you just have to standardize it and maybe upgrade things a little bit.

Your idea is good though too but it lacks the whole mission aspect and campaigns thing.

Any mod I get involved with must include a Campaign.

If not, cya later alligator.

i think they could drop the price on purchacing the full product like they havn't made enough money from it allready

i live in Canada it would run about 800 bucks now thats just out of hand.....

i wonder if there are public dedicated servers for the product ive not seen any info on that aspect of the VBS1

Read Edge's post here. Seems like the CSLA guys are one step ahead - maybe we should all try to support them in their Warsaw Pact Unleashed project?

i think people should be more creative with their time...

why not create something thats not been done?

what a concept...

Nice idea, but it'll never happen. Lots of talented modders are getting bored/fed up and dropping out of sight at this point (see BAS.) Virtually everybody else is too caught up in their own projects to mount any sort of cohesive collaberative effort (RHS, CSLA, CoC, etc.)

OFP's problem isn't a lack of units or terrain. It's the fact that the engine imposes a lot of arbitrary limitations on modders. I'm really, really hoping that BIS decides to rectify this given that we now have a two year wait for OFP 2.
