BoweryBaker 0 Posted July 31, 2004 Take metal gear solid 2, mix with splinter cell, and delta force series, and thats what this game should be like. Take ideas from other games that are good ideas and mix them in to make the ultimate game. I should be able to throw/use a combat knife, hop on someone from out of a tree that i climbed if the game detects that i have hardly any equipment of course, maybe use some razorwire, choke, stab, human shield, more kill options than just conventional warfare weapons. Think about it, you make a game that can only support eight people on an average pc on multi and you got this large scale battle engine. Thats good and all but it should also be geared to the small band of commando unit types, like navy seals, green berets, guerillas, stuff like that. On the com side, ofp kinda takes from swat 3. What i'd like to see is more realism in that when an order is given only the people near the leader hear it coming from his mouth. Not everyone on a team has a radio. The game should be more suited to make the radio guy a special role. Also shot equipment shouldn't work, such as radios. Also more attention to detail, in every aspect. What happens when someone looks at a map, they pull it out and spread it down on the ground, not just bleep bleep and its shut again. More attention to detail. Detail: Mix in a text to speech program so no words will obstruct your view but every time you type something a human voice says it and the audio is heard coming from your body in game. Detail: An actual animation for pulling out the map and setting it on the ground, then putting it away again. Detail: The sound of a body rubbing up against a building. Detail: The sound of equipment jangling on a soldier who has grenades on him perhaps. Never had a grenade on me, but there has to be some sound. Edit:More detail, detail, detail. You´re right about that ofp2 should consider taking ideas from other games but those games you mentioned are not good ones. Good example is Hidden and Dangerous 2 and it´s inventory and weight system.
hellfish6 7 Posted July 31, 2004 Yes... I just got H&D2 and I like their weight/inventory system very, very much. If anything, I'd like OFP2 to be an amalgam of OFP (for everything else not mentioned in the following), H&D2 (weight/inventory system), M1 Tank Platoon 2 (a not overly complex tank/vehicle sim, unlike Steel Beasts), Gunship 2000 (likewise a not overly complex helo sim) and Lomac (well... because I can't think of any other modern day flight sims). I'm tempted to close this thread cos I've got a sneaking suspicion that BIS already has implemented what it wants to for OFP2 and for the fact that so many suggestion have been brought over time that these are surely redundant. However, since I can't actually find those threads, I'll leave it open for now.
Madus_Maximus 0 Posted July 31, 2004 Most modern squads have a small personal radio each, I know the British military do, it's called "sabre" and allowes the squad to communicate upto 50m from each other which enhances their ability to spread out. Good in sand storms and bad weather too as you can keep in contact even if you cant see them, and if you cant, you know you're more than 50m away from them at least. That'd be a nice feature, short range radio! Like voice, you could implement both, just up the range with the personal radio systems.
Friedchiken 0 Posted July 31, 2004 Well, I sorta think that the iron sight system the the Metal gear systems is sorta like how ofp handled gun models. All you use is a special first-person LOD that includes the iron sight on the gun and the player model just brings the external animation to the player's face. Maybe a system like that will make the human movements more... sporadic. Hmm, maybe I should get HD2. At least a real manual will help me figure out the controls. I just hope BIS doesn't port the HD2 controls to OFP2
Madus_Maximus 0 Posted July 31, 2004 Why would they? They'll just improve on the current system. Apparently we'll benefit from the Xbox controls too with less commands to mess up squad actions.
Baron Hurlothrumbo IIX 0 Posted July 31, 2004 Someone's been watching too many US war films. Real soldiers don't grab a massive map and spread it on the ground. And the rest of the suggestions are either already suggested or ..bad.
Heatseeker 0 Posted August 1, 2004 Take metal gear solid 2, mix with splinter cell, and delta force series, and thats what this game should be like. Yuck, what a terrible selection you just got there, i mean... delta force? . Im ususaly against these take this, take that ideas. These guys are developers, they made OPF! They can make their own stuff, come up with their ideas and concepts of what to add, improve and rebuild to make the sequel meet our expectations. Take OPF, improve from there and make OPF2, its not like they dont know what we love or hate the most about OPF . Splinter Cell? . With the lightning and shadows and being a 3rd person backyard game . Might has well tell UBI to make splinter cell with 2Km view distance, 25 square km islands and jets, helos and armor then.
