I've already seen so many also in the ofp photography thread I just feel like asking what's still missing? I mean of course you want it perfect but it already looks so droolicious I can't imagine it not being perfect already...

Could it be released plz? I mean, of course you're trying to make it CoC compatible but could you release a non-CoC version, if that's what's holding up the project? I remember there is an american MRLS released (not from you) that doesn't use CoC, couldn't you release just as well a version of the TOS-1 without it being CoC?

I agree... a non-CoC version would be good. Plus is CoC going to make fuel-air explosive ordinance? If this bad boy's rockets don't make those little mushroom clouds I'm going to be disappointed. sad_o.gif

I'd rather see something like Remo's old truck mounted MRLS in his North Korean pack or perhaps usage of another arty system. For realistic fuel air explosions there was a Vietnam era jet addon (I can't offhand recall the fighterbomber designation) that had some bomb explosions that made nice little mini mushroom clouds. That effect would be perfect for a Burat rocket fuel air rocket explosion.

Anyhoo...I hope you can guys can make it look real nice like that. Keep up the good work! Good to hear that this project is still active.

We have never ruled out CoC, it was just a few people making statements like this:

"They're not going to be UA compatable, that's useless and unrealistic and it'll have a short range"

I wonder where they get this info, becuase being a DKM member I would have thought I would have known of this decision, but I guess they know more than me about it.. biggrin_o.gif

It will not be released without long range (talking full 3KM fire) scripts either way. And no, that's not by over complex action menus with the co-ordinates placed in which takes hours, it is a simple point and click job.

The model and textures are almost done, from what I gather from Carnage. Just a few things visually which would need touching up, but it's the guts of the beast: perfecting the long range fire scripts which is taking the time on this particular vehicle.

But the pack it will be released in will be the Artillery pack, which means that more than one vehicle of more than one nationality will be included, and we're talking more than just the M109A6 as well.

I am working on the FV433 Abbot, an old 1970's and 80's 105mm self proppeled British weapon which is now very obsolete, but could be used in conjunction with various other addon makers' work such as the Cheiftan and Bennyboy's scorpion in the works from the same era, as well as the Fox and FV432 from our own UK pack which also fits into that era.

There will probably also be numerous other vehicles..

You also have to take into account the various vehicles, such as specialised re-arming vehicles and spotter vehicles (like the M981 FISTV which I have almost completed model and texture-wise) which MAY also be included.

So really you are not just looking at one simple addon and becuase it is Carnage's work and he is currently unavailable it is on the back burner for a short time so even if a release was possible with a little bit of work, it is not mine to work on tounge_o.gif .

That may be a bit disapointing but in the long term it just means I'll have more time to work on vehicles inbetween now and the release so you get more in the pack. biggrin_o.gif

I'm greatly looking forward to this arty pack!!! I think that it'll be worth the wait.

My own mod may try making a "carpet" anti-mine arty system that also uses fuel air artillery but that is short range. If we make anything that works well I'd be happy to share it with you guys.

Jaguar, great news on the new system... it just makes me sigh that I see that it's taking long to get it out of the door, but I'm 100% positive that when it does it'll get the usual DKM seal of perfect quality and that everybody will like it... no matter what! xmas_o.gif

Also it's good to hear that something else besides CoC arty is coming into play... I never used it besides the demo missions because, maybe it's just me, I found it a bit too complicated... (I just want fire support... there and now! tounge_o.gif ), that's why I use direct arty fire most of the times. smile_o.gif

Most likely, DKMs model and textures look a lot better than the mod from Battlefield Vietnam anyway tounge_o.gif

The camo pattern on the side is totally different. BF's is ALOT smaller, DKMs is more in broad swathes. (which look better btw)

Looking at both pictures closely, the textures and the models are very different (see sideskirt area for example). So I don't think we need to worry about any nonsense about copying stuff. Plus DKM has a bunch of expert texturers and modellers that have proved their skills many times over.

It'll be nice to use the TOS1 on Chechnyan controlled urban areas. Bad for Chechnyan civilians, but good for Russian assault troops who have to clear the area of Chechnyan rebels. That old Chechnyan map is still one of my favorite maps in OFP. Lots of great urban and mountainous/woodland areas to do battle with lots of ambush opportunities and challenging terrain to fly over if you play as a fighter bomber or helicopter pilot. The TOS-1 will certainly be used heavily on that map I think.

Hmm, a question about direct fire; although the TOS-1 surely isn't built for direct fire, it seems that the distance can also be pretty short (see "mushroom" pictures from Jaguar's post). Will it have also a gunner view for more direct firing? Something like my favourite fire support vehicle, the 2S19 MSTA-S from Hawk, where u have a nice zoom and can lay a nice punishing rain of ordenance at... hmm, never checked the max range of it, but I hit buildings which were near the maxviewing distance which I've set around 3 kilometers... so... something like the 2S19's gunner view would work... (with a smaller elevation indicator perhaps crazy_o.gif one can hardly see small things in the distance tounge_o.gif )?

Don't get the wrong idea, I was just commenting that they looked similar. I was not insinuating that DKM mod copied anything. The addon looks great, and I will be awaiting its release.

Well you CAN use it for short range stuff, in the same way that you can stick a fork in a toaster.. it's just not advisable.  biggrin_o.gif

Really if you can see 3km you can lay rounds onto your target  with little problem, what with not having to see your target (I'm not sure how far the shock waves from the FAE go but you don't need a direct hit to make a few people's days a lot worse  smile_o.gif )

The pictures I took where to display the clouds, but really your only limit is your view distance.

One way where you could use the artillery indrectly while playing as the TOS would be in MP. If a player fires a rocket to get the range while a closer player acts as spotter, they can give corrections (that is how they do it in real life, as far as I know.)

But really, whatever you are using this for it is enjoyable, as all addons should be.

It's not being currently worked on, as it was carnage's project, and he will resume it when he gets back.
