Gizmo Mapping

Recommended Posts

hey

Got a question about this Gizmo Mapping tool in ofp...how does it work and what does it do?

The only thing I know gizmo mapping can be used for is texturing cylinders, legs, arms or anything similar. But this is described in the tutorial on OFPEC I think.

One thing that isn't mentioned in the tutorial is that the

gizmo centre always starts at the pin position. So, if you

select the polys to map, hit 'C' to centre the pin based on

those polys, and start the gizmo, you shouldn't need to

move the gizmo (although you will need to rotate and resize).

Gizmo mapping _can_ be applied to anything, but it works

best on things that are 'roughly' cylindrical - for example

plane fuselages wink_o.gif.

A good example could be the barrel of a .30 caliber machine gun...you don't want all those holes to be stretch out on the top of the barrel when you apply the textures now do you biggrin_o.gif

Anyways, thanks guys! If i have anymore questions i'll be sure to post them here!

Ok now i have a problem. So i'm trying to get this texture around a barrel, .30 caliber barrel to be exact wink_o.gif Anyways, i seem to follow the directions given to me on how to get the texture on the barrel via the tool Gizmo Mapping

Here is a shot at what i've done:

Here is what it looks like in Bulldozer:

As Footmunch said, you have to center the gizmo to the center of the cylinder. Then use Ctrl+Shift+right-mouse-button to scale the gizmo until the green arrow has exactly the length of the cylinder. Then select (in the gizmo window) 3D -> Scale and try to scale the gizmo so the arrows have the size of the cylinder.

You can also select in the gizmo window which part of the texture should be used. Now it should work, here is a pic of how I do it:

Question...is it possible to lengthen the size of the texture in the gizmo box?

Yes, you can drag the edges of the mapping rectangle in the

gizmo box to any size. However, the window _won't_ re-size

to reflect the change.

If you want the texture to 'repeat', then you can make the

box larger. If you want to 'stretch' the texture, make the box

smaller.

Also, you can use the numbers at the top. Check how they

change as you drag, and you should get an idea of what they

mean.
