AFAIK after being grounded and put on the back burner for a bit, the program's back up and running and they've resumed flight testing and the first one has actually been delivered for operational testing, I think. unclesam.gif

Saw a osprey in flight about two months ago or so near Andrews AFB (in Maryland near D.C., and were the president catches a flight). It did what it suppose to do (switch from "helicopter-mode" to "aircraft mode"...you know what I mean) and was very cool... biggrin_o.gifunclesam.gif

Sgt. Major Estrada took a ride on the MV22 a while ago, and plans to adopt it into Marine Corps service are still going as planned.

The USMC can keep it, I don't want to go anywhere in that deathtrap. Why is it that the USMC has more aircraft accident related fatalities than any other branch?

I like it, It needs Jets and Seatbelts. Then I'm giddy as a schoolgirl.

erm IIRC every plane, helicopter and any other piece of military hardware has failed/blown up or people have died in the process of testing it, just in this case a few shady goings on in the background were fiddling the books of a project which IMHO is original and needed in the current theatre of operations.

The USMC has the most aircraft related deaths because the Army seems to like to hide the numerous UH60Ls that slam into the ground.

The MV22 is a fundamentally safe aircraft. With some more testing and perfecting, it should work nicely.

No, they just lack the brains to care about the safety.

Heh, the U/MH-60 is fine, I would have liked the UH-22 but, The Army dropped out. (Damn Stryker!!)

Actually....I was talking more along the lines of the Harrier which has an accident rate of somewhere around 4x that of any other aircraft in service.

Wow, never knew that.

Harriers are, now that you mention it, a Little on the irkish side. They can have mechanical failures easily, whist they look study, the whole Turn-Nozzle VTOL thing fails alot. That why they are changing parts of it for the F-35 JSF.

The Harrier is designed to take off from a ship smaller than an aircraft carrier, which is already clogged with helicopters, and is designed to do it going straight up and then forward. It invites disaster.
