DB-ERAUPilot 0 Posted July 12, 2004 *edit*The US special forces do not have a gear restriction.... earth to people, just because some one says there not useing it doesn't mean they never will again. It's quite possible they still use it. Or maybe you guys just don't like m60's or something. Very much agree...two issues ago Soldier of Fortune magazine featured and Army SF team in A-Stan and the front cover had a "greeny" using an M79 grenade launcher...if their still using that thing I'm pretty sure they've still got the much "younger" M60 in their armory still

It's quite possible they still use it. Or maybe you guys just don't like m60's or something. ] There's a green beret on the Americas Army forums who says they do have a gear restriction. He's posting as (1VB)Francis_Marion. http://forum.americasarmy.com/viewtopic.php?t=48111&highlight=m240 Quote[/b] ]A typical SF team has access to the following weapons: M4 M4 w/ 203 (2 per team) M249 SAW M24 M107 (minor variant of the M82) I have only seen the SPR issued in the 1st SFG We can request: M240 LMG M2 .50 cal MG Mk19 Anything not on these lists are either special aquisitions or battle field recovery. Not saying it's out of the question an A-Team would have M60's it's just SEALs seem to still be using the Mk43 (which those look like to me - not nam era or eighties army M60's) whereas you have got that bloke there who you would expect to know saying Army SF don't. Not that I care particularly whether you're convinced or not. Just explaining why I think what I think. If you want to argue, register there and take it up with him. FerretFangs 0 Posted July 12, 2004 There is a distinction between Special Forces ( Green Berets ), and Special Operation Forces, which includes Special Forces, SEALs, PJs, Combat Controllers, Rangers, Delta, DEVGRU, 160th SOAR, etc. Just an FYI. Some of those units do have weapon restrictions, and some have much less. Some seem to have none at all. SEALs would most likely have access to all the old standby's of the Navy Special Warfare, and Marine Corps, as well as more modern stuff like the MK 46, MK 23, and AT4. It's also likely they might be using COTS ( Commercial Off The Shelf ) gear, LRIP ( Low Rate Initial Production ) and even evaluating some experimental stuff. This was done quite a bit in Viet Nam, and resulted in the adoption of the Stoner 63 system, and the EX 41 China Lake Launcher. It's being done today in Iraq and A-stan with the 6.8mm SPC, Blended Metal rounds, .458 SOCOM and .50 Beowulf, as well as weapons to shoot these rounds, and adaptations of existing weapons such as the MK 48 LMG, and SMAW-D BDM w/Thermobaric warheads. Gordy 0 Posted July 12, 2004 Yep. Also SF units operating on the enemy territory would not (I think ) use the weapon with US ARMY engravings on it but rather weapons that conceals their identity. So it includes all sort of merc guns and as Ferret has nicely put it "Commercial Off The Shelf" stuff. Example (before U say it is not US - they were learning from Delta, Seals and SAS): GROM - Polish SF unit operating everywhere outside Poland has a total freedom of weapon, uniform, equipment and gear choice. There is a photo from an Iraqi port where u can see several GROM soldiers wearing Nomex, woodland Camo, Dark blue uniforms; British ballistic helmets, Protec helmets, ect. It is said that U will not find two same looking GROM soldiers. They, shop for themselves, so to say.
spm1138 0 Posted July 12, 2004 Just to clarify when I say "SF" in the context of US forces I am only talking about "teh green berets". It seems silly to call a unit by the name of a hat. If you read "Warrior Soul" by Chuck Pfarrer he gives a pretty good account of how a SEAL contingent worked with the Marines in Beirut. They did their best to dress like the local militias and mixed AK's, PK's and RPG's in with their own gear for that very reason. SEALs seem to do a fair bit of the James Bond stuff so I imagine they do that quite often.
FerretFangs 0 Posted July 12, 2004 Yes, that sort of thing is SOP. A good cinematic example of that was Navy SEALs ( dreadful crap movie, BTW ) with Charlie Sheen, when the team had to infiltrate Beirut. ( I think it was Beirut? )
spm1138 0 Posted July 12, 2004 Guess what? Quote[/b] ]Chuck Pfarrer - Screenwriter / Consultant/advisor Gawd but that movie sucked. Nearly as bad as Rambo.
bmgarcangel 0 Posted July 13, 2004 m60 machine gun i still used just not in special forces as much anymore. The gun is longer then the shorter SAW, etc.etc.etc., and a few other LMG's. And considering that the special forces don't want to run distances with something heavy to go along with your already heavy gear on your back i think its in there favor to carry the SAW. ~Bmg
FerretFangs 0 Posted July 13, 2004 Actually, SEAL's were using the M60E4/MK 43 as recently as this current conflict in Iraq. There were pictures posted in this thread. The weapon is used in conjuntion with the MK 46, but isn't meant to be replaced by them. Eventually, the MK 43 will be replaced by the MK 48 MOD 0, which is a beefed-up MK 46/M249 rechambered for 7.62x51 NATO.
Drill Sergeant 0 Posted July 13, 2004 Who, What & Where have allot to do with the weapons selections. Â If we include a m60 you will complain, if we do not include a m60 you will complain even more. Ok m60 is settled, may we move on now?
AussieSapper 0 Posted July 13, 2004 American SF are well trained yes theres no (best sf in the world) but if you look at the gulf war the british SAS wore arab clothing on the invasions, i guess thats another reason the americans would use after they shot them...... yeah the Aussie SASR used the CV AK47 in vietnam rather then SLR or m16a1 piece of crap. Anyway yeah i guess its alright tatics to use the same weapons as the enemy with are usally russians AKM,PKM,RPG-7,SVD ect for cqc to confuse them plus they're very good weapons. Jackal326 1181 Posted July 13, 2004 Nice looking units guys, they are looking very promising, and will look great alongside my SEALs (if/when I ever get around to completing them). If you'd like to borrow any weapons from my pack to save you having to make your own (I have several variations of the MK43 Mod 0, M60E3s, etc.) just let me know. Keep up the good work. bmgarcangel 0 Posted July 13, 2004 I have a question and well...its kind of like a request too. So you know how you guys will also have HALO Nazy Seal soldiers too...or so i've heard, can you guys make it so that we can steer are ways through the air without a parachute and then like when we want to open the parachute then come to a safe landing. It would be really fun flying through the air going directly at your target ~Bmg

shadow 6 Posted July 14, 2004 I saw this pic in a newspost over at ofp.info This is one sweet model. To the maker of this weapon: Do you need a beta-tester? I can write the cpp-part for the behaviour and bullet-trajectory. If you need close-up detail pics (for textures) I can prolly do that too. But I hope its okay that there is some dirt on it. I hate cleaning
