bmgarcangel 0 Posted June 7, 2004 Hey guys I'm thinking about putting together in my free-time a BIS model replacement back. Bassically, we'd be replacing sounds, models, and a few other things with better looking shit then before. Now we wouldn't be replacing old BIS shit with new modern soldiers but we'd be replacing the models with better looking 80's units. If someone would like to help me out on this endeavour, bassically in finding random weapons, soldiers models, helos, and other things it would be much appreicaiated. I will begin soon on replacing alot of hte old bis models. Any help is wanted! ~Bmgarcangel
bucket man 2 Posted June 7, 2004 You could use HYK infantry pack soldiers. They have 85 US soldiers but russians of that era aint made yet. And please use a right sized BMP's from CSLA or FDF mod.
llauma 0 Posted June 7, 2004 Just read the bis model replacement project thread.. There you'll see how to easily replace the models without getting CTD's. If you try to unpbo the data3d the game will crash in MP.
bmgarcangel 0 Posted June 7, 2004 LOL Will do, I will ask them if I can use em. Â You know, lets have the makers of hte ECP pack help me out here, eh? I can't download FDF though, its a huge ass pack and I have 56k so its hard on my system. Â Bassically, all there is to do is replace the sounds, replace the models, copy and paste the textures into the data pbo that the models use and then change texture directories and it should all work. Â I'm not good with cpp.'s and other things like that so i'll probably grab help from others in messing with that. ~Bmgarcangel

I unpboed the data3d folder to put your stuff in it because the installer doesn't install all the models to the data3d folder alot of the time....you saying it won't work in multiplayer?? bmgarcangel 0 Posted June 7, 2004 No doubt. Thats why you replace the Russian AA missile with a new one so it will work...
Taconic 0 Posted June 7, 2004 I've basically done this already. I opted for more modern units because there are very, very few 1980s era Russian units (find a single Russian infantry unit from between WWII and 1990 aside from the ones that came with OFP.) I fully intend to make a 1985 version of it when the units exist. Check it out. It could save you a lot of work.
bmgarcangel 0 Posted June 7, 2004 Well, we could work with the BIS ones or we could work with the RHS soldiers ( with permission ) to make them look more soviet era type soldiers.
llauma 0 Posted June 7, 2004 Good luck with the project but as Kurayami said there are other projects and they are propably more interesting for the community.

Taconic 0 Posted June 7, 2004 Well, we could work with the BIS ones or we could work with the RHS soldiersIf you're going to leave things the same, what's the point? Quote[/b] ] ( with permission ) to make them look more soviet era type soldiers.AFIAK, RHS is eventually releasing some '80s era soldiers. They said that they're planning to release soldiers from "every era" not too long ago. That only solves one of many problems, though. There would have to be a concerted effort between many modelers, texture artists, and scripters in order to get enough '85 units out to do a fully authentic update before OFP 2 comes out. And AFIAK there are no '80s mod teams - everybody's focusing on modern stuff, WWII, or Vietnam/Korea. Probably because we already have a game full of '80s units (albeit somewhat outdated when compared to what the community produces today.) It's definetely a good idea, there's just no real way to do it at this point.

HEHE, might have been nice to mention this before you released your sky, or maybe you did and just recommended using Keg's installer instead of de-pbo'ing the data3d... either way i think people should know this tho if its that serious of a problem. bmgarcangel 0 Posted June 7, 2004 LOL Anyhow, nice suggestions, don't you wish BIS would listen to us about fixing the crappy ass units......ARRGH!! Anyhow guys, ya right, might use the soldier model....but textures will change possibly..... Gonna hire J-man soon to like work on replacing alot of the old animations in OFP We're also going to create a basic Handle holding animation for guns with handles near the trigger and then for ones without handles, like rifles, we'll create a different set of animations. I have always told people to use the install.bat. The LlauMax pack should also be installed with the install.bat so it will work in MP. This has been a well known problem for long that you can't replace the models in data3d but Kegetys had solved the problem long time ago but it took a while until I checked out what the installer does before we could change more models than just the sphere. This is a very serious problem.. It always crashes if you use a corrupt p3d. I should perhaps have added a warning msg but as it had a simple installer which I assumed people would use I forgot to. Hit_Sqd_Maximus 0 Posted June 8, 2004 I found it only crashes when you use that p3d though. When the Strela is corrupt it doesnt seem to crash for me untill I pick up a strela out of crate or make myself AA solder in both SP and MP.
Bobcatt666 0 Posted June 8, 2004 Well I got a lot of 80s era stuff on the rafters to be made or have finished.
