Russian election candidate goes missing

Recommended Posts

Some Australian news source:

Quote[/b] ]A candidate in Russia's March 14 presidential election allied to exiled billionaire business mogul Boris Berezovsky has been missing for two days, his campaign manager said.

Relatives of Ivan Rybkin "have neither seen him nor come into contact with him" since Thursday evening, the Interfax news agency quoted Ksenia Ponomariova as saying.

Mr Rybkin's wife confirmed not having had any news of her husband and said she would file a missing person's report with Russian police on Sunday.

The news followed the earlier announcement by the Russian electoral committee of the registration of Mr Rybkin, a former speaker of the State Duma lower house of Parliament, as an independent candidate in the March presidential election.

Mr Rybkin is leader of the wing of the Liberal Russia party that has remained faithful to Mr Berezovsky since the party split in 2003.

Mr Berezovsky, a fierce opponent of Russian President Vladimir Putin and wanted on fraud charges in Moscow, has been in exile in Britain since October 2001 where he has obtained political asylum.

Liberal Russia was created in 2002 by Berezovsky.

Mr Putin is expected to win the election with ease.

Seems Putin is more and more forcing out his opponents.Well Berezovsky fled and is sitting with a decent amount of cash somewhere in Monaco probably toghther with Yeltsin his family living of International monetary funds given to Yeltsin in his presidential terms.i can't say i have much symphaty for the oliarchy in general ,however Putin seems to be efficiant in filling up the power vacuum that removing those oliarch's provide...

IMHO, the Oligarchs deserve everything they get for robbing the country blind, so at this point I congratulate Putin on a job well done, and I hope Berezofsky is eventually caught, castrated, and hung in Red Square for a CNN photo op.

Better the KGB takes over robbing the country, at least they're doing it for the country's benefit, not purely their own benefit.

These oligarchs are like the Ken Lays of Russia, I wish we had someone like Putin to deal with the crooks in America. Instead, we have people going after insignificant things like Martha Stewart, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson's breast, etc.

How about all the billions Halliburton stole over the years? Is Janet Jackson's breast really a worse crime than that?

I have a different oppinion of it in some way though.i'm also against these oliarchy ,however Ivan Rybkin not a oliarch himself ,he was a presidential candidate that was supported by an oliarch.Still could be dangerous if he would collect enough vote's ,however it was known from the start of this ellection campaign that Putin was to win it anyway.Normally Rybking wouldn't be a problem ,if it wasn't for the fact that innitiated a very aggresive ellection campaign heavily critisizing Putin and a lot of the Political top.If Putin is behind this dissapearance then it's yet again a sign of how Putin treat's free speech and press.

Btw the Kgb is now Fsb....

And what's with all these hoorays for Putin? IMHO Putin is a dangerous man, God knows how long he'll stay in power and what he'll do.

Quote[/b] ]Would that be his fault?

To think of it another way, imagine if an oil company that Bush had never heard of decided that they wanted him to win (No duh tounge_o.gif ). They therefore have Kerry killed at a rally. Bush would still be blamed for giving the company the motivation.

I don't think that Oligarkhs (Russian transliteration, does this word exist in English?) are so "Bad". They've reached their status legally, using their (knowlege|luck|something else).

Euh ,they reachrd their oliarch status more by political connection's.Afcourse after the fall of communism the state owned company's had to transform in private owned company's.However strategic family members of key politicians at that time managed to buy most important industry for really a rediculous prize.

Besides ,the form monopoly position's ,like Berezovsky was the only car reseller before Putin ousted him out.

Yeah ,sounds fishy... ,was it an ellection stunt?

The guy probably needed a vacation quickly... too much stress and maybe family tensions could do it. So I would give it 70% that this just "happened" without political reasons.
