jakerod 254 Posted January 16, 2004 Take a look at this pic: OFP Church Look familiar to anyone? Allegidly, according to the history channel, that is where Hitler's Mom is buried. I was just trying to proove to someone that, the church in ofp looked exactly like that one which is how i found the pic.
oyman 0 Posted January 16, 2004 yes it looks exactly like that church in OFP. i think one of them is in morton on everon
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted January 16, 2004 You know churches were the spiritual petrol stations of the last centuries. Whenever they were build, they were build in the same way, so anyone not familliar with the city would see..."ah that is a church" just like we see nowadays "ah finally there comes a petrol station". And strangely enough most churches were build in the same period of time and by the same conservative company (the curch) and even styles varied only every 2000km and 400years. And that they have a tower is nothing special either, the church is supposed to be the highest house in the city/village. So taking this into consideration we might say: Yep, these churches look simillar....JUST LIKE 1034020 other ones around the world! Â
Apollo 0 Posted January 16, 2004 I agree with Albert. You have churches in all style's ,but within most style's you have thousands of churches that look very much alike. You have Roman style ,gothic style ,baroque style ,roccoco ,etc.. Most churches in Flanders are gothic style ,aparth of the cathedrals most gothic style churches look alike. That particular church looks very Central Europe Baroque style ,i guess you would see these churches all over south Germany ,Austria ,Tsjechia and Slovakia ,Poland ,.... This church probably is bohemian right?Hitler was from Bohemia ,and BIS stands for Bohemia interactive studios..
jakerod 254 Posted January 16, 2004 You do have a point and I was thinking about that but I think those churchs look a bit too much a like.
joltan 0 Posted January 16, 2004 Hitler was from Austria, while Bohemia is in the Czech Republic. This church is most likely just very (yes, nearly identical) to the one featured in OFP. As Albert wrote, there's hundreds or thousands of very similar churches around in Bavaria, Austria, the Czech Republic or Hungary.
SpecOp9 0 Posted January 16, 2004 You guys ever try bombing those churches? They don't bust. Srry BIS but urr religion is wacky
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted January 16, 2004 This is the church of my city Not too impressive but the one from the city nearby is not bad Dome of Cologne So dear OFP developers. I want to see a church like this one in OFP2 please
Apollo 0 Posted January 16, 2004 Quote[/b] ]Hitler was from Austria, while Bohemia is in the Czech Republic. Euh ,as far as i know Bohemia is a land area that mostly lays in tsjechia ,though partly in Austria and also for a part in Germany. The whole of Bohemia is not owned by 1 country i think. At the end of the middle ages bohemia was an independant country ruled by a Monarch ,however later it was in it's whole annexed by Austria. But when Austria collapsed after WWI most of Bohemia came under Tjechaslovakia ,but probably not all of Bohemia.I think parts of North Austria are still considerd Bohemia as wel as parts of Southeast Germany. Hitler fought very near my home town in WWI (Ypres) ,and in that time he was listed as a Bohemian corporal... Btw i don't think the Dom of cologne is a church ,rather something cathedral like. Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted January 16, 2004 well yes.. I thought if I call that a church then people might start to ask themselves "wow if this is a church then I really wanna see their cathedrales and domes!" Â Bohemia was one of the three Sudeten states ( Bohemia, Schlesien and Mahren). My tradition and by opinion these Bohemians would say they are german-austrian. People from Schlesien definetly german as my family orginates from there. Nowadays they might call themselves czecks. There is only one little historical difficulty. The inhabitants of Bohemia were always blamed for everything. Especially for WWI and WWII and the holocaust. Whenever they tried to escape from wars they were slaughtered (mainly by the russians). On the track to germany or austria russian soldiers just shot into the crowd untill they had no more bullets and the streets to the left and right were filled with dead bodies of raped women. Soldiers just stood there and watched the passing crowd untill they found what they considered as pretty. When the war was basically over still more than 250.000 Sudeten were slaughtered. That is why the Czecks and the germans have a pretty bad relationship. And the Sudeten are still considered as 2nd class czecks!
Apollo 0 Posted January 16, 2004 Ok then ,here is the Gothic style "church" of Ypres then. Â Center of the picture ,the big building to the left is the "lakenhalle" ,a medieval cloth trade center that used to be connected to a medieval canal. http://users.pandora.be/Pieterv/Ieper1.jpg The front of the Cathedral: (left in picture) http://users.pandora.be/Pieterv/ieper2.jpg edit: Sizelimit 100kb right? ,i changed the pics in links.. Gadger 0 Posted January 16, 2004 The grand church of Cwmbran  :
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted January 16, 2004 small and cozy and not hard to keep heated up during the winter. Why not, as a child I was afraid of the enter the big cathedrales. The one in cologne is 160 metres high and creates quite a shadow! So dark so scary and when you go to the top you can actually feel the tower shaking with the wind! Apollo 0 Posted January 16, 2004 Quote[/b] ]The grand church of Cwmbran there are even smaller churches than that. Â Personally i love architecture ,so i don't mind if more peop; show picture's of bueatifull or impressive churches. we all know this one i guess: And yes this was technicly build as a Christian church:

Gadger 0 Posted January 16, 2004 Unfortunatley I couldn't find a better picture, it used to be, but due to damage during WW2 its been fairly modernised bar the tower.
Apollo 0 Posted January 16, 2004 Quote[/b] ]Unfortunatley I couldn't find a better picture, it used to be, but due to damage during WW2 its been fairly modernised bar the tower. Well the Cathedral and Lakenhalle of Ypres were completly leveled in WWI ,toghether with about the rest of the city.Took 60 years to rebuild it with mostly original building materials and in the same historical state.Same goes for much of the rest of the town. But then ,Ypres got mucho $$$ in war imendities after WWI from Germany. So i guess the rebuilding of Ypres was part of the reason why Germany's economy crashed in the interbellum. And Hitler fought here to ,so in a way Ypres has some weird connection in what started WW2. Anyway ,here is another very well known cathedral:
norsu 180 Posted January 16, 2004 Church A crappy foto I took, it's a small Schlosskirche ("castle church") here. Some later goth style with full moon . Sometimes making a church can have odd consequences .
Apollo 0 Posted January 16, 2004 I bet the devil won more souls with that winebar that god did with his church. Â Nice story ,but the picture doesn't show much detail though ,where is it situated? der bastler 0 Posted January 16, 2004 So let's collect church pictures... There are dozens in and around Hannover. Here's the popular Marktkirche: The Agidienkirche, left in ruins after WW2 as a memorial: 360° low resolution 360° high resolution Elisabethkirche, Langenhagen: picture

It's in (Hansestadt) Lübeck, Germany. Too bad I couldn't take any good photos of the church itself, but anyway here's a pic of the devil statue
