Major Gripe 0 Posted November 28, 2003 [*] The prisoners do not have to give out any information apart from name rank and serial number. Interrogation of POWs is forbidden.Obviously this would make the various interrogations rather problematic, should the US respect this Geneva rule. [*] Prisoners are not to be subjected to any form of humiliation Hmm, kept in cages? Drugged and hogtied during transport? Yeah I think as a general rule they are trying to make nutcases of everyone in that camp by drugging them up and cutting them off from any sort of reality and advice. Â Also they have specialists there that regularly tell them they are insane... there you go, tell someone they are insane for two years and keep them isolated, they might think they really are. Â I hope you were being sarcastic, but what would be the point in turning the prisoners into fruit loops? Look at the running costs and staffing levels of a psychiatric hospital in comparison to a regular prison, psychos take more and better trained staff to be looked after. Secondly what kind of useful information about al Qaeda or ansar al-Islam or any other terrorist organisation these people allegedly belong to can you get if they are incapable of rational thought. You need reliable minds for reliable intelligence. I was not, it's true. Â They will just deport the prisonners once they are deemed useless to anyone. EDIT: I find you are wrong about how information is best extracted. Â Please elaborate...
bn880 5 Posted December 4, 2003 No I will not elaborate on torture and information extraction techniques, I'm not qualified. Anyway, the war on terrorism rings into Canada, but in a surprizing way. The terrorists are not the usual "arabic alquada", but some institution which is coalition friendly. What happened is a prissoner was released from Quantanamo bay concentration camp ( because I think that's what prisonners do there, they concentrate on how not to go nuts) a few weeks ago, 20-year-old Abdurahman Khadr. he was denied any contact with Canadian officials to arrange return to Canada instead of Afghanistan. He wanted to go to Canada, but they deported him to Afghanistan anyway saying Canda did not want him. This guy had some friends of the family though and got his butt back to Canada eventually through the UK. And now he has a lawyer representing him in order to straighten out what the Americans call justice over there. story on emprisonment and return to Canada http://www.cbc.ca/storyview/CBC/2003/12/01/Khadrnewser_031201 http://www.ctv.ca/servlet....s_name= http://www.ctv.ca/servlet....s_name= Yesterday his lawyer received death threats from what he says was an "institution", and so he has decided to stop defending/representing the 20 year old. (makes sense) He was basically tearfull when speaking, he says because there is not justice in this supposed Democracy in Canada. Depending on who and from which institution made the call, it seems he is right. And the terrorists are now the person/people who made the call to him. bn880 5 Posted December 12, 2003 Now this, this is one of the most interesting discussions I have seen. It is a 50 minute recording, and not a bore at all. I am unsure how many of you have already seen it, perhaps not so many, or I have missed yet another important post. The Riverside Conversations: a series of conversations for television hosted by Jim Rogers. Each installment will be 50 minutes long and concentrate, in depth, on one important issue. It has a lot to do with the state of the world and it's economic workings, this has close relations to terrorism obviously and fits in this thread quite nicely. Don't thank me all at the same time
bn880 5 Posted December 13, 2003 More films to watch from that site, I would say they are worth the time... The Carlyle Group (financial scandal deal) and remember our dear Al Jazeera? who kind of got silenced through cracking and bombed by the US. yeah that AL Jazeera AJ And this, I was surprized someone had recorded this of our CBC TV, a Nazi sounding treatment of 1000+ Taliban prisonners, you be the judge. Afghanistan POW's, what containers?
stgn 39 Posted December 13, 2003 The most interesting part about this is to in practice see how a civilized country that is based on a well defined fair legal system is willing to throw away all its rules and resort to barabarism once it feels threatened enough. Face it, the willingness to throw away the basic ideal defined through the constitution was an effect of post-WTC attack hysteria. The irony of it is that it's exactly what bin Laden and his merry men had wet dreams about. They managed to shake America so much that it's willing to throw away all its basic ideals. Bin Laden could have not hoped for more. You are so right but what should they do just don't care? And just say oh well 3000 people here and there that dosen't matter so much we are so meany And even if its bad to torture someone aint it better than being dead or if you could save sombody from getting killed, that where on your side?? Can you use a man ho wants to kill you to enything?? Aint it just kill or be killed some times?? STGN

Sources said the intelligence officer was driving when he suspected something was wrong. He quickly parked the car and got out seconds before it exploded, they said. The sources said the explosion came from underneath the parked car, but further details were not available. Authorities immediately sealed off the area. The blast happened just as evening prayers ended, the sources said. The car was parked along the street near a mosque in the al-Salam neighborhood in east Riyadh, a Saudi official said. Civil defense chief Gen. Saad bin Abdullah al-Towaijiri was quoted by the official Saudi Press Agency as saying a Lexus exploded, but no one was harmed. feel sorry for the Saudi intel officer now he has to live in seclusion... That is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard.  You can do a lot of things with almanacs, so a lot of people carry them.  And no terrorist would be stupid enough to walk around with an almanac now. Now some poor librarian is going to get mugged for walking around with a new almanac.

theavonlady 2 Posted December 30, 2003 Busy day: Germany Raises Security at Hospital Quote[/b] ]Germany Raises Security at Hospital 22 minutes ago BERLIN - Police said Tuesday they received a tip-off that Islamic extremists planned car bomb attacks on a German military hospital in Hamburg, prompting them to shut off several streets around the building. Hamburg police received the information from unidentified "security sources," a city police statement said. It stated that authorities had "concrete indications of people who want to carry out attacks by means of a car bomb" on the facility, in the suburb of Wandsbek. "Those potentially involved are believed to be from an Islamic, terrorist background," it added, without elaborating. State officials evaluated the threat as "very serious," it added, and immediately ordered enhanced security at the hospital. That will remain in place until further notice, police said. Quote[/b] ]British Airways cancels Washington flightClick to enlarge photo LONDON (Reuters) - British Airways has cancelled one of its three daily flights from London to Washington following security advice from the government, a BA spokesman says. The same flight, BA 223, was detained on the tarmac at Washington's Dulles International Airport on Wednesday for several hours shortly after landing. FBI and Transportation Security Administration agents questioned passengers and crew for several hours aboard the flight and no arrests were made. "We cancelled the flight for security reasons given to us by the UK government," the BA spokesman told Reuters. He did not give further details about the type of information given by the government. A spokeswoman for the Department of Transport said she was unable to comment on whether the cancellation was a result of a specific threat. The BA spokesman said alternative arrangements had been made for the 180 passengers on Thursday's flight, which had been scheduled to leave Heathrow airport at 10:05 a.m. Neither of the other two daily flights had been cancelled, the spokesman said.
