AKM 0 Posted September 12, 2003 Here is my review of the LAV-3, and being a Canadian, I'll try not to be too biased in that review. I've played both the origonal LAV-3 and this new fixed one. The textures are good enough. Olive Drab blends in just about everywheres. Lets go onto features: Openable Driver Hatch Openable Gunners Hatch Openable Rear Door. All doors and hatches open smoothly. However, the gunner still does not appear above the turret. I suspect this will be fixed sometime soon, with yet another release. Of course, this addon requires some other downloads, namely the 0.93R of the C-Pack and CADPAT-Clothed troops, which isn't all that large, unless you are 56K. The crew of the LAV-3 and Bison, for that matter, are regular-infantry soldiers. This is OK, considering that to the best of my knowledge, the LAV-3 and Bison are crewed by regular-infantry after a little course in driving the vehicle I suspect. Onto weapons. The 25mm Automatic Cannon (25AC) is great for reaching out and turning people into fertilizer, good against soft targets, and if you're lucky, maybe even a BMP. The C-6 is Co-Axially mounted beside the 25AC, and firing the nice 7.62x51mm NATO standard, its also damned fine for touching people out to about half a klick. The weapon sight leaves a bit more to be desired, but since its not all that close to a 1.00 yet, I suspect that too will be fixed soon. Handling is fine. However, it is difficult to turn once you reach top speed, meaning that you have to stay slow and steady if you want to do a lot of turning. Same goes for the Bison. The LAV-3 is quite versatile in missions, both MP and SP as it provides both a high-speed recce cross-country and high-speed Infantry Section Carrier, capable of stopping most rifle and machinegun rounds. As for bugs/issues, there are still a few, but those may also be design considerations. 1) The sight-mounting seems to be detatched from the rest of the turret, remaining directly infront of you even as the rest of the turret gyrates up and down or left - right behind it. 2) It is impossible as of now to walk into the infantry bay. 3) The gunner does not appear above the hatch when it is opened. As above stated, its' likely to be fixed sometime soon. Overall, its a good versatile addon, and goes well with all of the other Canadian units released. I've been rabidly following this mod since a few days after its conception, and its gratifying to see how far its come since then. AK

Thud_and_Blunder 0 Posted September 13, 2003 Only one snag seen so far: parked an empty one on a slope facing downhill, and when after boarding I looked through the sight from the gunner's position, the top 1/3 of the sight picture was obscured by "greenery". The picture also oscillated in pitch and yaw, but not so much that you couldn't see the bottom 2/3 reasonably clearly. When I moved the vehicle onto level terrain and used the sight, the picture was normal.

Need better info on the delco sight picture. Time will tell. AFAIK, this picture is correct, it just needs to be a bit better in terms of image quality. The current one is lifted straight from the vehicle manual. >1) The sight-mounting seems to be detatched from the rest >of the turret, remaining directly infront of you even as the >rest of the turret gyrates up and down or left - right behind >it. 'incorrect', yes, but not a bug. this is the only way to get optics to work with wheeled vehicles. The 'car' class doesn't support tank-style turrets, so we had to fool it a bit to get it to work. Apparently, the zoomed optic function is what causes the vehicle to shake, so there's probably no fix short of a BIS patch for any of this (and we all know how unlikely that is). > It is impossible as of now to walk into the infantry bay. If you were to walk in, you'd fall out if the vehicle started moving. This won't be implemented.
