Will I notice much difference (in OFP) or will my CPU (800Mhz) Still hold me down? ( Should I rather buy a new pc with a stronger CPU or does it help with better screencard?...) =MH=FritzDaKat 0 Posted September 7, 2003 Well, I've heard from others playing Ghost recon on similar system's they did notice benefit's, thou there was some bottlenecking. Remember your FSB could be a choker for you. I'd think you might better serve yourself getting more Ram, you might also wish to consider when buying your ram that you may be getting a newer Mobo somwhere down the road soon and it could be handy to ensure that the ram you get will be both compatible with your current mobo as well as useable on the newer mobo's i.e. if your current mobo supports pc2100, pc3200 should work, the only difference is that you wont appreciate the benefit of the faster timing, however, it will give you some "starter ram" if you decide to start building a second system further down the road. Prices are pretty good on components these day's. mr burns 132 Posted September 7, 2003 Yes RAM is a good choice..it´s quite affordable and increases the overall performance for OFP. I don´t guess you have DDr Ram´s but these would be even better. der bastler 0 Posted September 7, 2003 Quick and free analysis by der bastler (who had to upgrade last week due to broken mainboard)... More RAM: always a good advice, but in this case it's a bad investment if you want to upgrade your system in the next months. You have PC-133 SDRAM, right? This type of RAM is outdated and you would change it with a new mainboard/cpu => lost investment. Better CPU: Imo the best CPUs for your mainboard will have around 1GHz. If you want to make bigger steps forward you'll need a new mainboard and new RAM => expensive. Your old graphics card would slow down the new components => new graphics card => even more expensive... Better GPU: There are cheap graphics cards out there, e.g. GeForce2 MX 400 with 32MB - 50 Euros. With this card you'll get a hardware T&L unit which will take some load off your cpu => best solution for near future. If you can't or don't want to invest in a new system (i.e. modern CPU + mainboard, DDR-RAM and graphics board) the best way to power up your system is to buy a cheap AGP graphics card with GeForce2 chipset and 32MB Ram. You would be able to use that card in a new system, too. btw: With a GeForce2 your system would meet the specs of my old system, and that was fast enough to play OFP in 1024x768...
