LordJarhead 1725 Posted November 25 Hello dear community, I know it has been rather quiet around this mod for a while now and I know that I constantly get requests to update or "fix" the mod. For a long time, I’ve debated whether to make my current, private version of the sound mod public. Over the years, I’ve played it extensively, made countless changes, reworked it entirely, and eventually, in 2023, I decided to delete everything and start fresh. Despite this, I always had the thought in the back of my mind that, while it was my personal mod, it might one day be ready for a public release. With that in mind, I rebuilt everything from the ground up, focusing on functionality while ensuring that the base game’s data remained intact. However, I’ve always been uncertain whether this mod still meets the expectations of today’s player base or if it’s ultimately just a subjective project without broader appeal. Today, after spending two hours playing some random battles, I put together a short video. There’s nothing scripted here—it’s just a collection of moments I captured during gameplay. I’ve recorded similar clips countless times over the years, only to think, “No, it’s not good enough!” and scrapped them. I’m not sure if that’s still the case, but today, for the first time, I felt certain that I need public feedback to determine whether further development and a potential release make sense. One thing I should mention is that I likely wouldn’t be able to keep up with ongoing maintenance for a mod. That’s also the main reason JSRS is no longer being actively developed in the Steam Workshop. So, please take a moment to watch the video and share your impressions. Let me know what you like, what you don’t like, and whether showcasing more of this project would be worthwhile. Your input would mean a lot!
vafana 110 Posted November 30 Simply amazing. People are discussing less on the Bohemia forum, there's more life on the Steam workshop.
gatordev 219 Posted November 30 Overall, this sounds amazing. My one piece of feedback is the AK-style weapons. It seems like they don't have any tails, so when they shoot, there's no continued reverb. So it sounds like a more simple sound and less dynamic like all of your other sounds. It's hard to explain, but it's kind of like a "Pop, Pop, Pop," instead of the other weapons which are more like "Poppp..., Poppp..." Not sure if I explained that clearly enough. Airwolf 50 Posted December 3 Hi Jarhead, your sound mod is still used and many people of course are asking for updates, especially since there have been some issues with the compatibility mods like CUP in recent years, throwing errors, etc. A new version would definitely be welcomed by many people in the ARMA 3 community. We are still out there playing and not dead yet! I think if there's one comment I could constructively add about your weapon sounds is that they could use more bass. I think the sounds are true to life of what they sound like recorded in a microphone, but they lose the "power" of the gunfire that you feel when you are firing it or are near a firing weapon. Some sweetening to the shots would really help to add that I think. SInce you mention you aren't able to update it continually, any way that this could be developed as a "set it and forget it" type mod would be great, along with a template or guide for people to create compatibility mods of their own. Otherwise you get a bunch of people making broken addons for the mod. As for what else i'm hearing in the video. Could you say which things have been changed? There's a lot that I like but i'm not sure what all has been done. Thanks!
Melody_Mike 130 Posted December 7 Hello sir, Great to read you're also still playing this hilarious boytoy trainset as well! First of all: I like your chaotic triggerhappy playstyle. Looks surprisingly realistic. Seeing as I my major exposure to firearms is via media, I don't feel comfortable commenting on the weapon sounds. It's great that I can easily distinguish individual BluFor vs OpFor weaponry, in a way that doesn't seem artificial/Hollywood, but I don't think that feature is necessarily new to your mod. Increased directionality of the audio is also nice. I have however witnessed various demolitions in my life, and am enjoying the variety in the explosion impact sounds. The truth of it is; you eventually filter out these noises after so many hours of play. So I greatly appreciate your continuous effort to surprise people in their audio feedback. As I understand, terrains also define the walking noises per surface, but I didn't notice you walking on many different ones. I am noticing you removed at least one loud "brush" noise from the default soundset. I get the impression not a lot of attention was given to human "pain" noises: good. Those drive me nuts and deserve as little attention as possible, immersion be damned. Also have a question: will you be splitting up this new version into several (configuration) mods as previously?
