Us working on new weapon!

Recommended Posts

Quote[/b] ]First: Let us examine our attitude toward peace itself. Too many of us think it is impossible. Too many think it unreal. But that is a dangerous, defeatist belief. It leads to the conclusion that war is inevitable, that mankind is doomed, that we are gripped by forces we cannot control.

We need not accept that view. Our problems are manmade; therefore they can be solved by man. And man can be as big as be wants. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings. Man's reason and spirit have often solved the seemingly unsolvable, and we believe they can do it again.

I am not referring to the absolute, infinite concept of universal peace and good will of which some fantasies and fanatics dream. I do not deny the values of hopes and dreams, but we merely invite discouragement and incredulity by making that our only and immediate goal.

Let us focus instead on a more practical, more attainable peace, based not on a sudden revolution in human nature but on a gradual evolution in human institutions - on a series of concrete actions and effective agreements which are in the interest of all concerned. There is no single, simple key to this peace, no grand or magic formula to be adopted by one or two powers. Genuine peace must be the product of many nations, the sum of many acts. It must be dynamic, not static, changing to meet the challenge of each new generation. For peace is a process, a way of solving problems.

With such a peace there will still be quarrels and conflicting interests, as there are within families and nations. World peace, like community peace, does not require that each man love his neighbor; it requires only that they live together in mutual tolerance, submitting their disputes to a just and peaceful settlement. . . .

What kind of peace do I mean? What kind of peace do we seek? Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave. I am talking about genuine peace, the kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living, the kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and to build a better life for their children-not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women, not merely peace in our time but peace for all time. .

John F. Kennedy

Quote[/b] ]We learned a lesson on September the 11th, and that is, our nation is vulnerable to attack. And we're doing everything we can to protect the homeland by making the homeland defense department effective and securing the borders. But the best way to secure America is to get the enemy before they get us.

It's really too bad that all that money, industrial power and scientific research goes to find new ways of killing fellow human beings. If it instead had been invested in space exploration we would have colonies on Mars already.

The development of the first nuclear weapon and the space race are two examples of how much can be achieved when the priority is high enough. Too bad all the resources are wasted today.

So what has been learned the last 40 years?

Kennedy: We must work together to overcome our differences and achive true world peace.

Bush: We must get them before they get us.

Hooray for the evolution of the human race. sad_o.gif

Hi all

High energy particle bombs are not a new concept. Any one remember the neutron bomb?

Bluring the lines like this is not good it gives the likes of Al-Queda a moral slipery slope to slide down rather than big step to trip over.

It goes like this:

we only killed 1,000 people not a 10,000

we only killed 10,000 people not a 100,000

we only killed 100,000 people not a million

we only killed a million people not 10 million

we only killed a nation not a continent

heck it was only one continent we still have some more wink_o.gif

      Er? nothing ghostface.gif

The difference is that a neutron bomb causes huge fallout of radioactive isotopes while this stuff is supposed to be reduced to a non-radioactive substance.

Instead of making bombs, they should investigate how this could be put to use for power generation!

I read about this a few days ago. It is based on an isotope of an element Hafnium and emits huge amounts of gamma rays. Like someone said its purpose is to ''blur'' the lines and allow small shells of massive explosive power, instead of the 10 kt mininukes available from the 70ties

Edit: Read the second link above

I don't see what the big deal is here.  The first arms race was caused by two superpowers wanting to be bigger than the other one.  The other superpower died in the early 90's, now it's just the US.  This will not start a new arms race, as there's nobody to race with.  Sure, a couple of countries might try to make these weapons, some of them might even suceed, but it's doubtful that they'd be able to do it in enough quantity to "race" with anybody about it.

Nowadays we've got downright evil people (I don't care how much you like them or hate America, terrorists are evil) trying to kill every American citizen they can.  And you want us to sit down and talk with them!?  crazy_o.gif It was only 2 years ago that they knocked down the world trade center, did you forget about that already?

JFK's peaceful ambitions are honorable, and I wish we could fulfill them today, but our enemy doesn't want peace.  They just want us all to die.  I'm not going to sit on my hands and try to work this out with a terrorist. Kennedy said what he said back when our enemy was represented by a diplomat, back when there was an actual problem to be worked out that could be solved by talking. Today our enemy hides in our civilian population waiting for his time to strike. There's no logical way we can work out our problems with terrorists.

You people should be happy about this! This weapon will be more destructive than a conventional bomb, but cause much less fallout than a nuclear bomb. With this weapon you won't be able to rant on and on about nuclear fallout and that giant headache. I don't see what the problem is.

Who knows, we might get rid of some of our nuclear arsenal because of this weapon.

Where were you born Inqwiper? Has your mother country never done anything morally reprehensible? Have you ever heard the phrase 'Let he who has not sinned be the first to cast a stone'? Your statement make a sweeping accusation that I think you would find hard to back up convincingly. Which country is the driving force behind the world economy and many of the technological advances of the last 50 years? I could put something bitingly sarcastic but I am certain you can work out who it is!!   tounge_o.gif

Super power is a very relative term. Russia can still with a push of a button turn the world into a parking lot. China has a considerable nuclear arsenal too and they are getting stronger by the day. Furthermore nuclear weapons are not very difficult to make these days. It's 50 years old technology. Any country with the right motivation can get them today. So when USA comes out with BigBomb 2.0 then other countries are going to compensate by building 10 BigBomb 1.0.

They are an enemy just like any else. They are far less of a threat to USA than what the Soviet Union was. Terrorists can kill a couple of thousand people, sure. The USSR could have turned USA into a parking lot, destroying your entire country. So they were a far more potent adversary than assorted terrorist can ever be.

And no, I'm not saying that you should sit down and discuss with bin Laden. Terrorism is however not something that comes out of thin air. People don't become terrorsit because they're born "evil". Terrorism is a symptom of a deeper problem and the cause of the problem is USA's militant foregin policy. And that problem you are not going to solve by being more militant.

I dont think people can be evil, terrorism might be evil but I dont belive that terrorists are. They might be seriously messed up people but not evil. Maybe you should try and talk to them instead of trying to kill them. So far you have been doing more killing and it doesnt seem to end terrorism does it? If the US used theire brains more than theire mussles maybe WTC would never even have happend. You are not much better yourselves.

Quote[/b] ]JFK's peaceful ambitions are honorable, and I wish we could fulfill them today, but our enemy doesn't want peace.

According to a very convincing documentary you were the ones who killed him. It said that what the lawyer said to explain how there was only one shooter was to say that one bullet entered in his back, bounced on to his wrist and bounced on to his leg (or something like that), and the bullet wasnt even that messed up. There were also several witnecess talking about people sneaking around in the bushes and stuff and the in the documentary they thought he had been shot from 3 different angles or so.

I dont remember it exacly because it was more than a year ago I saw it but I belive it. Why do I belive it? The evidence seemed good enough and you are the US. You have done dumber things than that.

You may think terrorists are cowards but its theire only way to fight a war, if they had an army they would fight like an army. Now they are just a bunch of mad as hell people who have to think of other ways to attack you.

I dont really see how flying an AC-130 and shooting talibans armed with AKs from 10 miles with big cannons is more brave than hijacking an aircraft and flying it into a tower. You might think its a coward and unfair way to fight a war, its not more fair to bomb them from a distance where they cant hear or see you and they cant hide from you.

Sure it is very stupid to attack the civilian population but its too hard for them to make a good attack against your military since it can defend itself and you have killed way more civilians than terrorists have if Im not a complete idiot.

The best solution is to talk and try to convince them that you arent the big bad devil like they think and that you are actually human beings just like them. You as a big superpower have much more responsability than a country with bad education and no money. Someone has to take the first step in the right direction to end this mess and it has to be you. It would be really embarracing for you if the UN had to step in and solve this conflivt for you in 10 years or something when they might actually have the power to stop a war.

Hating never did anyone any good, try to be understanding and do the right thing, try to be smart and dont try to give back times ten. If one doesnt stop attacking the other this will never end until you have developed a virus that only kills a certain race (wich I have no doubt you would really like to have). I know its not easy to make peace with these kind of people but its probably alot easier than killing all of them and it sure as hell is better for the human race. If you could solve this in a good way for once you would set an example to the rest of the world and the rest of the world would look up to you. Now the world looks at you like an arrogant superpower who just wants to go in and bomb the shit outta everything as soon as there is a problem.

Not true -- according to the Humanitarian Review, the US developmental aid budget was increased by $5 billion (a 50% increase) over a three-year period under President Bush, and will gradually increase to $15 billion. About 80% of worldwide food donations come from the US.

Sweden.

Sure we have done bad things in the past like crusades and stuff slauhtering arabs in the name of jesus and bullshit like that. I had no part in that and you cant defend yourself with the fact that someone else did something stupid before you did. We still are not perfect but I belive we are better then the US and i belive we are trying to get even better.

I really think its stupid to think that you have the right to do bad stuff without being criticised just because all other countries have done something bad in the past. If we cant point out eachothers flaws and we cant see them ourselves, we will always be a bunch of idiots never learning from our mistakes or taking the advice of others. The world will only be saved through understanding and not by superior firepower. There will always be other nations with big firepower that dont like you but hopefully they will be smart enough to discuss it instead of doing something stupid.

Its easier to solve conflicts by talking and not by fighting. Winning the fight seems to solve the problem but the loser will never forget and they might even be looking for revenge. A mouth says more than a thousand fists tounge_o.gif
