slizeroid 0 Posted July 18, 2003 Hi, I was just wondering if there is any way to encrypt script files and .sqm's and such, cuz I am making a demo for my mod and we dont want guys dePbo'ing it and using our scripts or editing the mission (yes, it does sound paranoid but thats the way I am )

Think about it.
bn880 5 Posted July 18, 2003 I'm with bigpoppa on this one, and I think you will find 99.9% of all members saying the same thing. It's one thing to figure out how it can be done, it's another to actually do it.
InqWiper 0 Posted July 19, 2003 Why dont you want them to dePBO your missions? makes no sense. You got some classified stuff in there or what? If someone uses your script you should feel good about it as long as they dont try to take the credit for the scripts. Maybe you have some smart solutions to problems that some people could learn from. I really cant understand why you would want to encrypt the files. If someone tries to steal the scripts I think people will probably belive 10 modmakers before some little kid who hasnt understod how setpos works (not attacking people who dont know how setpos works  )
sanctuary 19 Posted July 19, 2003 prevent people to learn from how you made your mission or script ? I find that very strange , i am happy that BIS did not had this thought, i learn a lot by giving a look at the campaign missions and scripts I can understand for an addon , but for a mission and its scripts i dont , as i dont remember people stealing scripts , but i can be wrong OFP editing community is more strong with sharing the editing knowledge than with crypting a possible source of info
walker 0 Posted July 19, 2003 Hi all At CoC we produce loads of stuff not only do we leave it unencrypted we write manuals telling people how to do it. Our only thing is we want a credit if you use our work and you cant sell our work without our permission. We prefer things open if we were to be making stuff for sale that would be different. Secretivness and wasting time competing to bring out the same addon does no good for anyone. You might want to keep your stuf among your team while it is being developed so that bad Alphas dont give you a bad rep but once its in Beta you want is many talented people to look at it as pos to improve it. I suggest you reconsider your aproach but in the end it your choice. Kind Regards Walker

Balschoiw 0 Posted July 19, 2003 Well there are of course missions that are only setup and based on existing ones. We all know them. They lack of quality, ideas and often have a lot of scripts within that are taken from other missions without mentioning the original authors in credits. That´s the ugly side. The other side are editors who are using existing scripts and parts of missions to spped up their mission design and use existing resources to produce high quality missions. These authors do mention the authors of scripts or cinematics or whatever in notes, credits , etc. There is nothing to say about this. In fact I am happy if someone sends me a mail and asks me if he can use sounds or whatever from my missions. It is an honor for me If there was not the chance to look how others created their missions or implemented new features we still would stand on a very early point of editing. OFP editing com is not the biggest anymore and looters come up pretty fast, but the ones with skill and passion define this com. A good script does not make a good mission. It takes more than that.
