Another bombing attack in moscow

Recommended Posts

this was a article from my local news paper

Quote[/b] ] Moscow- A bomb exploded outside a central Moscow restaurant yesterday, killing a security agen in an attack authorities said was the work of terrorist ring training female suicide bombers for national strikes. The early-morning explosion alon the main boulevard leading to the Kremlin aslo was linked to a double suiced bombing at a weekend rock concert in Moscow, which killed the two female attackers and 14 others people. The bombings raised fears that Chechen rebels were taking their separatist war to the Russian capital. Interior Minister Boris Gryzlov said the two attacks were coordinated by a unit of terrorists "with a common leadership," but he declined to identify the leaders. "We have information that will enable us to shortly hunt down this unit training female suiced bombers," Gryzlov said in comments shown on Russian television. All Russians, "not only Muscovites, but aslo residents of ther cities, should be vigilant," he said. President Vladimir Putin's main envoy on Chechnya, Sergei Ystrzhembsky, warned earlier of an increaded threat of suicide bombings across the country. "The threat of spreading of the 'Palestinian variant' of terrorism in Russia has become a reality," he told an international conference in Rome, according to a report yesterday in Vremya Novostei newspaper. Shortly befor midnight Wednesday, police stopped a woman trying to carry a bag with explosives into a restaurant on Tverskaya-Yamskaya Street. The woman was detained after her behavior attracted the attention of security guards, officials said. Her bag, which contained a bomb Gryzlov said was equivalent to 1.1 pounds of TNT, was left on the street.

I saw a series of pictures of the bomb going off in a Finnish newspaper yesterday. The Russian major was trying to defuse the bomb when it exploded on his face ... he was wearing a protective suit that weighs something like 60 kg, but it didn't help. Poor lad.

such a suit helps to surfive a small bomb (even one with nails)

but with such a large amount of explosives the shockwave will kill you anyway.

Poor lad, indeed.

I just checked one of my books dealing with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, there was a picture of a Soviet sapper wearing a similar suit, it says it does offer complete protection from anti-personnel mines. The suit weighs a massive 28 kilograms (62 pounds).

About the incident, they also tried to defuse the bomb with a robot for nearly two hours. Does anybody know better how these robots work? smile_o.gif

I believe they are belt-driven (like a tank), two "arms" with some "tools", a few cameras, a shotgun (for breaching doors etc).

If memory serves me right you can see it in the movie "Ticker" (Steven Seagal plays a bomb-defuser). Good movie.

-I like Seagal-movies smile_o.gif

the robots we use here are TV guided from a distance , and they use a high (vvvvvveeeewwwwwy high) pressure water canon to destroy the explosives

I read that in the newspaper,it said they had "Used water to destroy the explosives" or at least tried too. Does it actually physically destroys it or does it just saturates it with water and kill the electronics? Isnt there a risk it causes a short circuit and sets off the bomb?

i said high pression , if it was fired at point blank of you , you would weel the wind passing through you ...

so , it physically destroys the explosive device

I guess the bomb exploded because it was activaded by radio or something like that right at the moment the officer tried to defuse it. The chechens have experience with that kind of bombs because they use largers one with the same radio triggers for blowing up russian vehicles moving on the streets. What`s better for getting attention than blowing someone up right before a camera. Poor guy, he wasn`t even 30. sad_o.gif

I saw it in the news. They tried to defuse it with the robot; no luck. Then the policeman went to disarm it and BANG! The bomb instantly exploded. So it could be possible that someone detonated it with a radio... sad_o.gif
