I associate June 6th with people driving around in nice, honking cars, with posters and twigs sticking out from the car.

It was a union with a rotating king (Swedish and Danish and once or twice Norwegian). The last union king, Danish Kristian II "The Tyrant" executed over 100 Swedish noblemen in 1520 in an attempt to seize complete power. Gustav Vasa then lead a rebellion against the king and kicked the Danish out of Sweden and absolved the union.

All well that ends well: After the last Danis-Swedish war, Denmark had lost 1/3 of its territory plus Norway to Sweden smile_o.gif

I know, but the topic title, is June 6th: Remember. So, as I pointed out, lots of stuff happened on June 6th.

If the title was, oh, say, D Day, June 6th: Remember, my replies would be more war related. smile_o.gif

Anyway, it's the 59th anniversary, next year should be covered more than today. I remember the 50th, live TV coverage, interviews, all sorts of nice stuff.

Civilians don`t salute to military. They can show their respect and good will with other gestures, e. g. shake hands or wave and so on. Only military salutes to military, at least that is what we german armed forces do. wink_o.gif

I didn't mean salute in the literal sense. But if you want to literally salute a soldier go ahead, i doubt he will shoot you for it.

He`ll smile under normal circumstances or if he`s in bad mood he`ll think somethink like "Stupid #!&$$# civilians. Too stupid to follow the correct procedure!" . biggrin_o.gif

I won`t tell you what I thought when guys that avoided their military time tried to salute me. biggrin_o.gif
