dominic_crotty 0 Posted May 4, 2003 Hi All, A bit of tactics 101 please. What are the best tactics for crossing a bit of open ground under fire as commander of a team? Take the following situation:Leaving a town to assault a villa on top of a hill, 200 yards distant, manned and defended by a squad of enemy who take you under fire. Secondly, and maybe connected, how can you order your team or squad member to start suppression fire e.g to fire at a house to keep the occupants heads down? Thanks. elendil004 0 Posted May 5, 2003 If at all possible...don't Try to engage from a distance, even the m16 can take a guy down in 5-6 shots at 200-300m. Advancing accross a coverless field is tantamount to suicide if you ask me. Dont know about ordering supressive fire, might be able to target > building and open fire. theavonlady 2 Posted May 5, 2003 There's np command for suppresive fire. If it helps, search The FAQ for "command guide".
sanctuary 19 Posted May 5, 2003 One good tactic , when you have mortar soldier and grenadiers is to tell them to target (not engage) a soldier (select one of your mortar guy by pressing Fx , x depends on the number of this unit, and click the right button of your mouse ON an enemy unit) Then reselect your mortar guy and activate his action menu (key 6 ) , and for him select the reload mortar action. He will load a mortar and if he is at a good distance (i think 200 meters is good , as the AI have difficulty to fire from too far away) , he will fire (or reselect him then press 3-3 to order him "FIRE !!") If everything is good , your AI mortar guy will make a suppressing fire that will eradicate the enemy squad For the grenadier it must be the same thing to do. Very usefull units to clear a town quickly.
Mr B 0 Posted May 5, 2003 Bah, pay no attention to these cautious methods  . Have your two MG gunners go prone and let 'em rip (try to place them in a bush though, for safety). They have a range of about 500 metres, so 200 shouldn't be a problem. They're pretty accurate too. While they're doing their thing, get down on your knees and CRAWL!  Throw some grenades when in range (remember, grenade range is decreased when prone). Alternatively, get a machine gun from one of your men and provide suppressing fire yourself  . Mr B can't waste time when he wants to get his OFP fix  . (Let's not forget, at 200m your men are under fire already. You won't have much time to give orders before you get picked off. Your best defence is a good offense .) Polishdude 0 Posted May 5, 2003 As long as you remember to keep your head down, you should repeat to yourself,1-2-3-4 shoot, communicate aha, you should make it out alive.
Major Gripe 0 Posted May 6, 2003 they don't all die. If its green infantry defending the house the last thing they'd expect you to do would be come at them guns blazing, shouting 'Geronimo'!! Assuming you can get their heads down before you start to charge you would have time to get a fair way before they re-organised themselves into a cohesive defence. If it was well placed, well drilled troops defending then you would be soon be an ex-soldier!
