More improved multiplayer

Recommended Posts

for me the best suggestion is easy, more improved netcode. OFP is a perfect game, only need 50-60 players servers for this giants maps. This is probarly the best revolution for OFP2...

-Join in game progress

-Automatically download addons in the servers

Automatically add-on download ?

So... for add-on with a size of.... 10 MB or 20MB player with 56k download that too, wituout compression of add-on ? that take a long time and I think player leave server for play on a server without add-on to download...

yep, this was the main problem with ofp. I have a bunch of people that would have played it if it did not lag.

if tribes 2 can have 64 ppl on a server with little lag, and in game join. ofp should as well.

I wouldn't compare OFP to Tribes2 since the devs aren't even using their own engine anymore.

JIP I'm for. Auto download addons, not easy to resolve waiting issues.

Autodownloading should be possible:

Server side:

- enable / disable auto-download

- enable /disable download forward from location ( ftp / http )

{so x servers can e.g. use one major download location which saves bandwidth at game servers}

Client side:

- enable / disable auto-download from server

{ when disabled small logfile will be created (NameOfServer_neededAddons.log) and client can take look what's needed and download all himself (links saved too)}

- ability to define maximal size of download per file and total (per server)

Same way can be used for faces and custom sounds:

Client side

- custom files are stored at same machine as player plays

{but this affect his line}

- custom files are stored at location ( ftp / http )

- custom files are uploaded to game server cache

Server side

- enable / disable custom files to be uploaded to local cache {e.g. for each player which visits server more than 10 times in week (so ability define this) etc.)

- enable / disable custom files to be loaded from location ( ftp / http )

- and like now enable or disable custom files stored at player's machine smile.gif

this gives maximal variety of options to everyone (admins and clients)
