Recommended Posts

I was wondering whats the best video card. I'm sorta looking at an ati radeon 7500 at best buy but can someone give me a specific name of good video cards at a reasonable cost. 50-150 dollars.

I suggest a Geforce 4 Ti4200, if your looking at that price range. The 128 meg one I think you can find around $100 - 150.

Don't go with the 7500, I have one and it's a fine card but it's showing its age a bit, if you go for a Radeon try to get one of the 9000 series, or as alternatively suggested a GF4 TI, don't take the cheap option and get a low end Radeon or a GF MX, you'll only regret it later, better to wait a lil bit longer to have the extra money you need smile.gif

MSI is good. Powercolor are a little cheaper, but generally are noisier.

This card is excellent, comes with a good software bundle, and one of the quietest coolers going.

I know I boost MSI a lot.... I have never had one of their products break down on me, and they are of outstanding quality.

I found an 9000pro for the cheapest of 89 dollars should i buy it?<span id='postcolor'>

Unless you are getting a 9500 or 9700 pro, spend the extra and go for the GF4ti4200. You'll be far far happier.

So true. But it was only $70 (CDN) and I make more than that in a day's work anyway. tounge.gif

I upgraded to a GeForce 2 MX440 from a VooDoo3 a couple of months ago, now I am already looking for a new card. What's the best vid card that will go with a K7AMA motherboard (4x AGP slot) and an AMD 1700 CPU?

Also, is the 'GeForce' an actual brand made by one company, or is it made by more than one manufacturer?

Tyler

Nvidia and ATI are the 2 largest video card chipset designers/manufacturers in the world.  Nvidia makes the GeForce series of chipsets.  And ATI makes the Radeon series.

Other companies, like Abit, use these chipsets to assemble the actual video cards.

Lol, won't fit? What do you mean by that? Like that the card won't fit into one of the slots? Gotta like Dell, dude. tounge.gif

Some of the Dell machines need an NLX(?) format video card. They are low profile jobs, and I dont think they make a GF4 in that format.

I'm about to get a Ti4200 64MB (Abit Siluro) for $130.<span id='postcolor'>

Ack! crazy.gif

Don't do that. 64meg = big mistake.

Get the 128 meg version of any Ti4200 by a reputable company, it will only cost $20 more.

I also suggest waiting until may if you have the patience, prices will plummet when all the new Radeons are out.

You must have skipped the rest of the thread -- he already has a Ti4200, and it doesn't fit into his system.

My advice:

NEVER get a GeForce4 MX card.  THose cards may have a cheap price on 'em but they aren't meant for video game graphics, more for web graphics (eew! tounge.gif )  So if you're getting a new card get either ATI Radeon 9000 or up

OR

NVidia GeForce4 TI4200 or up.  And make sure the card is 128MB.

LoL, doesn't fit.  That's true, a lot of the NVidia cards don't fit cause they require big fans to cool the powerful card.  To fix the problem you could buy a smaller fan, but I think it's easier to buy a "size" compatible card smile.gif

(You could also wait a bit for the new ATI Radeon 9800 or GeForce FX or XF or something like that..but if you're like me and don't have any patience, get one of the 2 metioned above^ wink.gif )

If a standard GF4 isn't fitting in your system, there is absolutely no way that the FX will fit. Hell, I can't even guarantee that you'll be able to fit the thing thrugh your door.
