PFC_Mike 2 Posted April 15, 2003 i figured out what bn stands for: Brain Nonexistent. I think it's way too hasty to call the war over. Admittedly, the Iraqis probably can't launch a large scale attack without armor or leadership. But still... If I were Tommy Franks I'd be giving orders to immobilize any any vehicles and confiscate and destroy all weapons, especially AT weapons and explosives. Why is it that Americans can own oil companies but only the new Democratic Iraqi GovernmentTM can have one? It's uncapitalistic and utterly un-American (I'm being serious) to insist on a nationalized oil company. National companies exist for one purpose: f--king the people in the name of "national prosperity" And you wonder why noone looks for any more oil in Mexico? Also, Saddam extracted low taxes becuase of the poverty of the country and the strength of the oil. Why does Iraq 2.0 need a new progressive tax scale if the country's biggest industry is gov't controlled? What a bloody idiot if he thinks that will go over well. FSPilot 0 Posted April 15, 2003 Guy's lets stop the fussin' and the feudin'. This thread is supposed to be about war. Anyway, although the Iraqis can't launch a major offensive anymore (could they in the first place?) we still have to deal with suicide bombers and checkpoint skirmishes. bn880 5 Posted April 15, 2003 Again, just like with the reporters, this was pointed out explicitly to the American leadership, but they chose to ignore what's good for them: </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE"> Antiquities experts, dismayed that U.S. officials failed to heed their warnings to protect Baghdad's historic artifacts during the war, said on Monday they were concerned the priceless treasures looted from Iraq's main museum may never be recovered. U.S. archeological organizations and the U.N.'s cultural agency UNESCO said they had provided U.S. officials with information about Iraq's cultural heritage and archeological sites months before the war began. University of Chicago professor McGuire Gibson was among a group that met Pentagon officials several times and presented them with a list of archeological and other sites that should be protected, particularly the Iraqi National Museum in Baghdad. "We warned them about looting at the very beginning," said the archeologist who has worked extensively in the region. "I was assured it would be secured." Now, he said, the loss was immeasurable. "The Baghdad museum is the equivalent of the Cairo Museum. It would be like having American soldiers 200 feet outside the Cairo museum watching people carry away treasures from King Tut's tomb or carting away mummies," said Gibson. <span id='postcolor'> iraqwar.ru

I want to see one of those gold-plated M1 Carbines, though. See, I think destroying these weapons may not be the best solution. Personally, especially considering all the valuables in the Husseins' gun collections, if I were U.S. brass, I'd be trying to round up as much of the stuff as I could, and bring it back to the U.S. They could sell what they don't need, and keep what they did. It's greedy, but it's almost definately what I would have done. And just for the record, I think I would have put a bit more deterring security around the Baghdad museum. More guards, and perhaps an M113 nearby with a VERY twitchy-looking, chain-smoking gunner.
