Other than the initial explosion, there is virtually no danger from a dirty bomb.  Most studies state there will be about 1 additional death per 1000 population over a 30 year period.  Thats horrific wink.gif

I am not making light of that sort of thing, but strictly speaking you are more likely to die from shrapnel from the bomb than of radiation.<span id='postcolor'>

The true danger of the dirty bomb isn't radiation or death from it, but of the enormous psychological impact it would have on people, and the huge economic losses from an attack. Most people don't realize there is hardly any danger to your person in a dirty bomb attack.

The reactor was the Osirak reactor. Also, the US condemened it because everyone else did. But the Israeli action saved hundreds of thousands of lives. Besides, the US has been Israel's strongest supporter since 48. Destroying a foreign reactor isn't at all going to ruin the relationship. If the UK bombed a French nuke site, who would the US support? Anytime after 1900 it would be the UK.

Did you hear Rumsfeld's comments about the current situation in Iraq? He said he doesn't believe the news about chaos and looting in Iraq. confused.gif

He would make a good sidekick for Baghdad Bob.

Rumsfield

Actually he said that he believed it was just temporary and that Coalition forces feel obligated to provide security.

Well, it sure is time to bring some safety and order to the cities. It`s the responsibility of the Coalition forces to do so. But until now only the brits are doing something against that anarchy, the US troops are just passive or shooting at their roadblocks (understandable somehow, but a sniper should be able to identify his target before he takes it down) . I`ve seen footage today from hospitals who were so crowded that they put beds on the streets. Or from other hospitals that were looted. Great...

Well, if the USA can do something like that unpunished... Why shouldn`t others follow the example of the almighty and omniscient TBA?

I thought about attacking the Netherlands lately. They have great cheese over there. I have to liberate them.

They must be freed, I will join you, now the coalition is strong! If the U.N. doesn't act now it will be irrelevant. smile.gif

This is nothing new - it has also been mentioned several times in the political thread! The republican hawks suffer from delirium - and there's no pill in the world to stop that. We're all well and truly fucked!

I know it's nothing new, and before I didn't take it serioulsy, I thought cooler heads would prevail. This war however sets a pretty nasty precedent.

Although I always suspected the "think-tank scenario" to be credible I'm also stunned because it's now kind of official.

And let us all remember that they are all patting themselves on the back and flush with victory. They are convinced more than ever now that theirs is the "rightous way."

Yes. I have to admit I'm a bit worried - or scared! Thing is, there's no way anyone can stop the US war-machine once it starts moving. The only hinder to that is an election or upproar amongst the more liberal republicans) .

Regardless of military victories in the middle eastern region I suspect an occupying force would have problems with keeping the situation under control though. Riots, suicidal bombings, "ordinary bombings" etc.

Hmmm...I thought you were a republican Akira - but you'r not are you?

I'm not anything...I vote my concience biggrin.gif

I don't believe one side over the other just because they are Democrat or Republican. I gather what facts I can and then decide based on that how I feel about it. Sometimes I lean toward liberals, sometimes conservatives, sometimes Republicans, sometimes Democrats (and sometimes Independants! "Go ahead! Throw your vote away!")

smile.gif  ........Same as I do over here. The only difference is that never give my vote to the christian party or the progress party. The last one is rather intolerant and fascist.

US finds Odai's personal weapons tore...so much for sanctions.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm....id=1473

you suppose that the AR-15 type weapons were for commiting atrocities while pretending to be coaltion forces?

I don't think that Bush's confidence about "total global liberation" extends very far outside his neoconservative circle. Think tanks spew all sorts of things; this is just the same noise there was five years ago except now it gets coverage.

The US doesn't have the resources to handle a 3-front war/occupation. And, more importantly, the American people wouldn't stand for it. Iran is a very bad country, but the Ayatollah doesn't have the negative publicity that Saddam does. Not many average americans can tell you what the Council of Guardians is or even who Khameini is. They can tell you who the Feyaddeen are.

Also, is the US distributing aid to Baghdad hospitals yet?

well, i think they are busy fighting pockets of resistance, so don't have resource to divert to that. the aid materials needs to be escorted, and that will take some time.
