What vehicles have you owned?

Recommended Posts

prepare to have a laugh: these have been my cars so far (not actual pictures, just to give an idea), all breathing European city-life atmosphere

I bought my first car (Opel Kadett) from the neighbours for 100 EURO, they thought it was wasted but I continued to drive it for 5 years ...

then I bought an Opel Corsa. It went up in flames after 3 years, I survived

Corsa4.jpg

then I bought a Golf II (Rabbit version), didn't like the colour but the car was in splendid condition

after a year I swapped the Golf II for a black Golf III 1.9 Turbo Diesel, atm I'm still driving this one

OMG..

THEY RAPED THAT ECLIPSE!!!

Imo... putting kits on cars is just... car-raping man.  crazy_o.gif

Completely agree.

There's still the other way around. For example equip this body with this engine (150hp)...

wink_o.gif

Lol.

That's not that bad.

I can't tell if that's the original engine modified or not, but there's a green beetle of about the same vintage somewhere around my city with a tuned 2.7 litre boxter engine and RUF wheels. Hell of sleeper in my opinion.

At least it's not overkill, like a V8 mini, and... It's fugly. Or this 4wd V6 mini.

I'd take performance over looks anyday. But only up to a certain point.

wow_o.gif  is it love?

A bit too much loving on the owners behalf if you ask me. crazy_o.giftounge_o.gif

the body is a bit to modified but the v6 looks perfect and 4wd is an excellent idea...  wink_o.gif

It certainly is different, but whether it's perfect or not depends on the exta kilo's it would put on (apparently, it weighs 1000kg), and whether it understeers a grossly large amount.

By all means, I wouldn't hesitate at the oppurtunity to drive it. But making a mini 4wd is a wee bit eccentric. But it certainly is quite an acheivement to fit so much running gear into so little car.

It's a Triumph TR6, they usually use a lot of oil (leaks) but are fun to drive! Me like it a lot!

it looks nice, but, well I took quite a lot of pictures, but mostly they were about the weaknesses of the car. If you want to see them (I doubt that) just change the number at the end of the picture. It goes from .../flo1 to /flo16. I made them for my brother who lives in Berlin so he can have a look and decide! But those pictures are just focusing on tiny little spots inside the car, those spots that looked good and those that didnt!

Lot's of owners of classic british cars start their adventure like you are possibly about to: Buy a wreck or a car in just about working order to run it for a season without any deeper feelings.......... Usually, they end up hopelessly in love with a car that had "something special" and they now go for the full monty - full restoration and a wad of bills biggrin_o.gif

The good thing is that "British Motor Heritage" is a trust that still produces most of the parts you'll ever need. You can actually make a new car out of all the spare parts they make tounge_o.gif

Good luck!

Have to agree on the whole ricing thing. Nothing makes a shit car look worse than adding OTT spoilers or lowering it too much.

My first vehicle was a little red 50cc motorbike when i was about 8.

Then I graduated up to a DT80 at ~11, then a DT 175 when I was 14. Motorbikes were very popular where I lived amongst teenagers, because we were in a rural area with decent places to go on them, as well as with ways to get to other villages without having to go on the roads.

Got a cheap car when I was 17, a 1.4 ford escort. Horrendously expensive insurance, which was not improved when a taxi wrote it off when stopped at a traffic lights in Edinburgh (although I drove it 200 miles back where I was studying anyway :o ) Then I got another escort for about 400 quid, but got rid of it when I had nowhere to keep it.

Currently studying for HGV licence

Nope. Most NFS games have shit physics. NFS:U diverts it's shittyness onto the graphics, bodykits, jumbojet wings e.t.c.

Give me Gran Turismo, Racer or NetKar anyday.

Then again, I'd rather time behind the wheel travelling my favourite narrow, winding, hilly, country road over any game.

Just out of curiosity - what is HGV licence?

Heavy Goods Vehicles: big lorries

Need it to drive bedfords and bowdens (well, don't need actual HGV for bowdens, but you do need class D1)

In my brief but storied existence, I've had:

A 1979 Mazda GLC Sport bought from my father. Just quick enough to get me into trouble.

Half of a 1969 Olds Cutlass F-85. 400cid tied to a three-speed manual. Sideways at any speed. This car certainly taught you your limits. The guy who owned the other half burned out the clutch and abandoned it in Galveston.

1972 Chevrolet Caprice 2-door. Bought from a little old lady for the wife.

1966 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sedan. Spun a main bearing and I just didn't have the resources to find another engine or block. THIS WAS BY FAR MY FAVORITE CAR!

1969 Javelin SST. 325HP from 360cid and crappy drum brakes to stop it. Real fun if you could keep it in a straight line.

1980 Mazda RX-7. Sold it after it ate its second engine. Surprising for a car that did only 85mph (that's where the speedometer stopped).

1994 Chevy S-10 pickup. I bought this post-divorce basically to save money and stay out of trouble.

1988 Honda CRX. A sweet deal from my brother. I drove it exactly a month before it was rear-ended and totaled.  mad_o.gif

Current car is an 1992 Acura Integra. It's a sedan because most of the women I date now come complete with children.

Edit for the Baron: Only the Caprice and the Javelin were automatics.

I forgot to ask earlier:

How many of you drive automatic cars? I hear they are very popular (or at least more popular than over here) in the US.

Personally I'd never get an automatic gearbox, and I don't understand why some people do.

So funny, for a european (or better german) neird like me most of these car specifications dont mean anything to me. There realy was a time in which the 2 continents used basically two totally different types of cars.   smile_o.gif  I had to use google in order to see those cars for the first time!

At the moment, I have access to only automatic cars (Because you take what gets given). But having driven practically identical cars, only difference being the transmission, I'd take a manual car anyday. I'd probably take a manual over a 'sequential' gearbox as well. I rather non-variable ratio steering as well.

Auto gearbox's make driving less 'interactive' as well as taking a small percentage of power away yet increasing fuel consumption.

I think it's a shame that most new car buyers down here opt for auto transmissions, especially so when the car is a 'performance' car.

I don't really know why either. It think it boils down to practicality. Most like the minimal input of an auto. Others prefer the added control of a manual.
