Soldier taking helmet off in-game

Recommended Posts

Edit: I have completed the script to enable taking helmets off, and putting them on again. I used a menu action, and was able to set the action radius, to prevent your teammates fooling around with the helmet in multiplayer.

Everyone thanks for the input.

One problem remains: wound textures don't work. I could really use some help from an experienced addon-maker with this...

Now, how would YOU prefer to handle this action?

A) Use a custom action "Wear helmet"/"Wear beret"

Disadvantage: other players can execute this action on you

B) Automatically wear the beret (only) in "at ease" mode, wear the helmet otherwise.

Disadvantage: you have no choice

c) Automatically wear the beret (only) in "at ease" and "stay alert" modes, wear the helmet otherwise.

Disadvantage: you have no choice

Lock in your votes...

Do you mean 'careless' and 'safe' behavior modes in B and C?

I like that. Or maybe it can be automatic when you put your weapon on/off your back?

I'd say wear the beret in careless mode. Would be annoying for me to see a bunch of troops putting their helmets on when they are suprised. It gives the enemy just more time to shoot at them when they have to pull their guns and put on their helmets.

Sorry for bothering you.

Questions;

What's the update on the marines?

What do you still have to do?

Are all marines gonna have backpacks?

I prefer option A. Besides, if anyone gets close enough move your helmet, you should have shot him by then. tounge.gif

I also like option A. In addition I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to make a mission script to tell the AI to switch from berets to helmets or vice-versa. So option A I think would be the most versatile as it would allow mission makers and players more freedom to choose what they want on their heads. smile.gif

Awesome idea! I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Anyway, how many soldiers would wear a beret out on patrol?

Hmm, the ones who like quiet?

<spec ops, rangers,LRRPS, and oh, just about anybody who goes for long walks in the enemy rear like to keep pots optional, the THOWCK! sound a tree branch makes smacking one is very distinctive, it got a little quieter with kevlar, but it dinna go 'way>

Hm, yes good point.

I almost have the variant in DPM parka & backpack ready. Only skinning the hands remains.

To do:

- skin hands

- Send the next beta to the beta testers

- make the wound textures appear

- Add functions

- Send the next beta to the beta testers

- Make the other variants:

   * parka, no backpack

   * basic US woodland jacket, no backpack

   * basic US woodland jacket, backpack & boony hat

   * basic US woodland jacket, no backpack, boony hat

- Make configs for all variants as Rifleman, Medic, MAG gunner, LSW gunner, AT gunner, Stinger operator.

- 1st release

There might be additional releases, depending on my spare time and motivation. Things on the wishlist: An M136AT4 for the AT gunner, Mossberg M500, Steyr PIIk, Leica Vector1500, sniper, CQB units (BBE), and SBS units.

Does anyone care to create/convert Dutch models like the Hr.Ms. Rotterdam, Land Rover, a BV, YPR, Patria or Lynx? (or maybe even the NH-90?

NOTE:

I could still use some hints as to what a squad sized infantry unit and recon unit should be made of.

I like the action idea...

can't you set the action radius to zero or near zero?

<span id='postcolor'>

Yes, it's my first choice too.

But I don't think it's possible to change the action radius. More importantly, it would clutter up your action menu if there are soldiers around you. No way to tell you which option will put on your beret, and which will put on the beret of someone next to you. Damn...

Ack! Please if you can avoid it, DON'T make any more At-4's. Everyone seems to be making their own AT-4. The TOW team already made a fantastic looking AT-4 that was released a long while back with Fransdens's Marines. Please just use that one, it looks and works fine. Also someone already made a Mossberg M500 that if I remember correctly was pretty good. I know it's tempting to make everything yourself but if there are good weapons addons already made floating around, please just use those and just include them with the pack.

That's my suggestion anways.

You could choose A, and throw in a global script so that nobody can do it 'for you'. smile.gif

I was a little too quick to say that the radius can't be changed. --> it can be set, and it works like a charm. So I think I'll go for the action. Players will have a possible action "Take off helmet".

A few snatches remain, amongst which are wound textures. Arms work fine, but the damage won't show on the body.

Could hard-core modellers please give me a hand on this?

Ok, it's working rather nicely...

actions.jpg

See the actions?

- camo face is a one time gig, after your face has been painted, you'll have to restart the level to get it cleaned up again.

- You can paint another guy's face if you are REALLY close, like both having the guns slung across the shoulder and standing nose-to-nose.

- Wear/remove helmet works only for yourself

Still no solution to the wounds problem though.

HEEEEEELLLLLLP !!!

Ack...I lost track of who these troops are. Are these Canadian troops? I hope you share the script for the helmet/hat removal with other mods as well that have non-Canadian troops. I'd love to see this feature with British, and American units, like for the TOW Marines/Rangers, the BIB British forces and the BAS Rangers/Delta-Force units.

These are Dutch Marines, which are part of NATO's NL/UKLF. By the way, the camo face was provided to me by Frandsen.

I got an idea. Anyone that has made his own soldiers, and can help me out with getting my wound textures to work properly, will receive my config.cpp and helmet script before I release the marines.

No dude, he's making some dutch marines, for pics go to previous page.

Try to arrange something with BAS concerning their ranger addon, maybe you could make something out from there using the BAS model? (or ask someone else?, friendly of course)

I'd have to go with option A as well - as others have said before, it would provide mission makers with a great versatility. I'd also think that troops would wear the same headgear throughout a mission, and wouldn't be bothered to change if a firefight broke out...

It might be a bit annoying to have people taking your helmet off for you in MP, but certainly no more than other irritating things, like TKing teammates.

I edited the first post, so that we don't get the same questions over and over.

As said, I have a solution to the problem that others might fool around with the helmet.

Still no solution to the wound texture problem though. Works fine on arms and face, but not on body and legs.

Mattijs,

I'm curious about your "action radius" script and how you where able to limit the radius of actions so that others can mess with it. Can you post the script somewhere?

Thanks,

Capt Moore
