Thomm 0 Posted January 22, 2003 I recently bought OFP:Resistance and am wading my way through the campaign now. I just took the large town single-handedly and I am started to wonder if maybe the game is too easy compared to the previous two iterations?! The persistent team members make me very reluctant to risk the life of any of my soldiers. So, basically, I do everything myself, which is facilitated by the Dragunov I secured in a previous mission. I have about 8 tanks now, tons of ammo, and all my team members carry RPGs. In fact, in the Scrap mission they disposed the enemy reinforcements on their own without me even noticing it ... In the next mission I have to face a tank assault! Seems that I will not be able to beat this one on my own?! But with my numerous tanks, there won't be a problem either ... So: is Resistance too easy, or am I just to easy on the savegame cheat? Regards, Thomm PS: Great game either way!

InqWiper 0 Posted January 22, 2003 Its no problem if you save 20 times per mission and just load where you were 5 minutes ago when you die... The hard part is to get it all right in one try, not to keep saving and loading til you have done every part perfect...

cybrid 0 Posted January 22, 2003 Too easy? I just recently got resistance and I'm on that mission early on where you have to steal the tanks. Its damn near impossible, I'm grossly outnumbered and without ANY anti-tank capability. My brother beat the mission by running through a stream of bullets and somehow just by chance he was able to steal one of the tanks, then dispached to other tanks as they came rolling over the hill one at a time. His entire squad was lost and he managed to drive the crippled tank home somehow. I've been playing Mafia alot recently so thats why I havn't gotton very far in resistance. I find the origional OFP campaign quite easy except for the last few missions, often winning in one try.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted January 22, 2003 Try it again with super AI.
SpaceAlex 0 Posted January 22, 2003 Are u playing on Veteran or Cadet mode? Cadet is pretty easy, while Veteran is a bit harder. Â Oh, and Super AI helps a lot. They will never run away like chicken. When you'll fire your first shoot, they'll simply find you in a matter of seconds and kill you from 300m away with AK. Â Â
Thomm 0 Posted January 23, 2003 Okay, okay, so I am guilty of cheating. But I have to add that the fact that I save often does not mean that I die often! Also, I am of course satisfied to achieve the highest theoretically possible score while not loosing any team member! Guess that is human after all. Partly, this is because I do not want to spend more time than necessary with the game, because I need that time for my own projects. Actually, I did not play the other two parts after I finished the respective campaigns, simply because I felt that I "solved" the game. Hopefully, I will be able to apply some of the advice found here (Super AI) along with the advanced squad tactics described in one of the other current treads (didn't even know that you could form fireteams). Maybe in the context of mods like Nam or Invasion. But even without saving: the fact that you have regular access to weapons like the Dragunov and AT weapons for the whole team DOES make the game easier, doesn't it? pong2cs 0 Posted January 23, 2003 I think the resistance campaign is easy, and the normal one is practically impossible! Playing on cadet on both. I had to cheat my way through the last 10 missions in the normal campaign while I barely considered it in Resistance.
Thomm 0 Posted January 27, 2003 **** COUNTER STRIKE SPOILER WARNING **** WooHoo! What a blast! Finished "Counter Strike" last night! First off, the tank attack was unbeatable with a brute force approach! Took some time to find the right configuration to defend without friendly losses! And then came the bad surprise from the skies! All attempts to keep my crews in the tanks AND alive failed! I then ordered them to disembark and take cover in the nearby woods. That kept them alive and the helos from attacking (the tanks). But how could I save the tanks?? Well, I remembered the numerous M2s just in time! They proved to be excellent AA guns (do not forget to lead)! Soon, the paratroopers were repelled and the two attack helos were downed. But, still, the Mi17 kept circling over the base, with me unable to lift the M2 high enough! Switching to RPG launcher I took another chance ... HIT! Funnily, onky the Mi17 was accounted for in the statistics. Obviously the other copters were "abandoned" by their crews and did not count as kills! After that it was a nice victory parade to the extraction point! Great Game! Regards, Thomm
ale2999 0 Posted January 27, 2003 lol after I destroyed those tanks, I ran away to the extraction point as more tanks where coming from FAR FAR away and the mi17 as well
Jamesia 0 Posted January 27, 2003 If you play operation flashpoint on verteran mode its a completely different game... eg. you have to look up grid references in the middle of battles, you have to use your iron sights to kill anyone, and with super AI on the enemy are a teensy bit tougher..... seriously, if you've completed the campaign on cadet mode use veteran mode..... NOTE: Super AI is not a default veteran mode feature. You must activate it by going to the options > difficulty screen.
Thomm 0 Posted January 28, 2003 ***** ATTENTION: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS ***** Shamelessly turning this thread into my personal campaign diary, here is the latest on Thomm's Resistance Campaign! Finished the heliport destruction mission yesterday! The new definition of fun! I read a little bit about it beforehand and I have to agree that the definite way to finish this mission is to steal the V-90 that is parked in one of the hangars. I parked my squad in the ditch at the southern end of the runway, where they lay still until I rejoined them later on (the are turning into real killers, by the way! They begin to scare me). Approaching the base from the south (no BMP patrols there) I sneaked along the runway stealthyly, passed by the hangar with the BRDM and ended up next to the V-90, undetected. I entered the V-90, started the engine, and pressed W to roll out. Hint: this seems to work much better than to apply lift (Q) and fly out. I shot around a little bit, then flew to the coast to take cover "beneath the horizon". After that, it was pop-up shooting at the Shilkas. I did not figure that out at first, but the Shilkas are not stationary; they approach from the NE, so there is some time until they appear within sight! There are very dangerous and there is little margin for error when dispatching them! Using Auto-Hover from the orders menu is advantageous to provide a stable weapon platform. You will take a lot of damage fighting against the Shilkas so make sure that you save before you start the chopper! Once the Shilkas are disabled, you can start man-hunting around the base! This is very dramatic: Use the (V) key to use the weapon camera. Switch to HE ammo for the cannon! What you will see through the gun cam is frightenly similary to the AC-130 footage that appeared on the web some time ago ... soldiers running for their lifes with no chance to hide from the all-seeing-eye! War is hell! After I destroyed everything within range I flew back to my group and destroyed the V-90 with a RPG. We then encountered a patrolling BMP and an enemy squad, both of which were easy to overcome. After that it was back to base! **** QUESTION: Does anybody know what the boxes around the base contain? Anything useful? Regards, Thomm ... starting to suffer from OFP insomnia!
