I think there is a lot of truth in what commedians have to say... at least the ones who focus on political commentary. They will often say the things that make sense, but the more PC sorts wont say because it isnt exactly popular to show that your leaders posess feet of clay...

To the Swedes or anyone else who might know:

How do the locals feel about their citizen being held in Guantanamo?

Tanks, like bombers, tend to have names associated with them, like "Heavy Metal", "Enforcer" and things of that nature.

Not too happy. The kid's father did a hunger strike some months ago on the central square in Stockholm. Didn't change anything. sad.gif

The most absurd thing is that during the elections our PM explicitly promised to get the kid back. After the elections he seems to have forgotten it. Oh well, at least they are doing something about it now.

Hmm, sorta like America did with Afghanistan when they were fighting Russia? Or like they do with Israel?

Pot calling the kettle black comes to mind.

Anyway, there is still no solid evidence that Iraq is supply weapons to anyone, or has links to any terrorist organisation, other than wild US speculation.

Yes, if you completely disregard the fact that the U.S. was assisting Afghanistan fight off a Soviet invasion.  Your analogy would be more applicable if the former Soviet Union was selling weapons to terrorists so that they could strike back at Afghanistan for beating them in the 1980's.

There is a rather large gap between Stingers and Scuds. As for Israel- you may not like it, but a majority of Americans see Israel not only as a strategic ally, but our only real friend in the Mid-East. You may not like it, but then again, tough shit. We aren't selling them weapons to fight our wars for us, we sell them the weapons because they want them and can pay for them. It's called capitalism- welcome to planet Earth, can I get you anything before you head back to where you came from? Besides, that's not why we're pursuing a war with him. If exporting weapons was a reason the US went to war, we'd be engaged in wars with at least 5 of our principal allies, every single one of our enemies, and we'd be fighting a civil war as well.

I think it's because none of those regimes have ever launched scud attacks against influential US allys.

Empowered him? Try evicted him. Even if we didn't catch Bin Laden proper, we destroyed a great deal of infrastructure that Al Qaeda had relied on for over a decade. Not a decisive victory, but a victory nonetheless. And considering we've done so with minimal loss of military personnel, I'd have to say we've done alright.

Only 2 billion dollars are allocated to Israeli defense. And yeah, Israel has done some underhanded stuff in the past, but I can't exactly say that we are innocent in the 'sneaky shit' department either. In fact, few countries are.
