Please explain in idiot terms how I use this instal to as I also dont like the hat idea.

A Brit issued helmet cannot take a direct hit (I wore one for ten years).

I Would also like to see some NCO rank structure within OFP.<span id='postcolor'>

its meant to be subbed in to your Dynamic Range mod install.

it replaces the config.bin in your OperationFlashpoint\DynamicRange\Bin folder.

Anyone remember the game Bridge Commander? The way you mod there is probably how it should be done here: editing the config.bin file to add in mods.

Shouldn't that be done more for Operation Flashpoint? I hate to hear about all these great mods coming, but never being able to use them except in this one obscure mission. That's probably crap, anyway. :-)

Who wouldn't want to play every mission with more modern uniform and equipment? Or more modern weapons?

Imagine using Harriers instead of A-10s. Hueys instead of Blackhawks. Or even playing the British instead of the Americans (I'm American, but I'm up for a little variety. ;-)

Well anyway, I'm just dreaming... nice dream, though!

P.S. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard some 101st Airborne troops took multiple, direct AK-47 rounds to the helmet in Operation Anaconda. And they use a kevlar helmet. (I've also read it's been upgraded over the years... so maybe the first versions in the early 1980's were still crap.)

They might have been 'refilled' rounds. Usually done where ammo is running short.

You take the cartridge, fit a small firing cap in the bottom, pour powder into it, and replace with a reasonably intact bullet. Ta da!

Shame they are unreliable, have little in the way of stopping power, and have a habit of exploding in the breach. But their cheap!

If you took a 7.62 round in the helmet, theres a good chance you could snap your neck purely from the force of the bullet hitting the helmet. The rounds you talk of, were probably ricochets or were merely deflected rounds.

Helmets are usually used to protect from shrapnel, not direct fire.

Hmm, could be... I'm no military expert, so I can only say what I've read in 'battle reports' from the Washington Post or something.

Most likely the AK-47 rounds slowed down and failed to penetrate due to the range of the target; a round point-blank will probably penetrate a kevlar helmet, but maybe not from 600 meters or more.

Does that also apply to Operation Flashpoint? I've noticed on rare occasions that I hear the DISTINCT sound of a bullet hitting me - yet I receive no damage or blood whatsoever.

I even aim perfectly afterwards.

A bug? Or simply getting hit in head armor from long range?

I seem only experience this after the latest patches.

AK-47 rounds are not at all the same as .308 ammunition (used by the M-60 and M21 as well as many many other guns). AK-47 bullets are indeed point three oh eight inches in diameter, but they are shorter and pack much less of a punch.

I do not know whether or not they would be stopped by a helmet or not, I am just clarifying the difference.

A kevlar helmet might in some cases stop a bullet. Things that might be stopped includes:

- Small caliber low powered ammunition such as 7.62 mm handgun ammunition might be stopped.

- Small hunting-size shotgun pellets might be stopped

- Rifle ammunition which has penetrated something or is rebounding after hitting the ground or a wall.

- Ammunition which has travelled a long way might be stopped. Stray bullets might travel several kilometres, but at that range they will have reduced speed.

- Extreme angels of impact might make the bullets deflect of.

But generally a kevlar wont stop a bullet.

Yeah, that sounds right. I think even on the company Web site for the PASGT kelvar helmet (US), it says the helmet was not MEANT to stop bullet rounds, but, "It has been known to do so."

Just hope you're lucky. ;-)

If it can then im betting its really heavy and really bulky.

I agree that the officers should wear helmets. Maybe they could add an animation where the officers take off their helmets and put on their caps like when around the base. Or vise virsa.<span id='postcolor'>

The helmets are quite anit heavy.
