my mom has new 2003 camry, and it's spacious. but when it comes to versatility, nothing beats a van. it's spacious(despite being easy to topple over) and is more useful for moms that have teeage kids. so improving mpg for vans is a good idea, but that doesn't mean we need to not use it.

Yes I KNOW how Americans (continental) drive. Highest percentage of fatalities involve SUV/Pickup/Minivan vs. passenger car collisions.

Let's not just pick on SUVs,pickups now.Sport cars also do the samething. Why are we just talking about chevy and ford here though ? There's tons of german, japanese, korean, chinese, other cars/suv/sport cars in america. smile.gif

Really ? I didn't know we was your gov't. smile.gif We all want a clean earth,no sickness,all to be the same.But that's not reality.

Face the facts, you know those nikes/reebok/other shoes you have on are from factories, same with the computer.Same with your cloths. It's really not the cars, suv, sport car. It's the factories. What about power plants,We have power for a reason.True it may pollute the world, but your on here aren't you ?

Do you need all those cloths ? do you need all those shoes? Let's go back to animal skins. Do you need a fast computer ? Do you need a computer game ? Nope, but guess what they are here for a reason.Do we need meat ? Heck let's just go build a shack and stay inthere jerking off until, somehow the world finds a battery pack that stay charge long times and can produces lots of power.

Like i said your hypocrites,And the only people should be bitching is the africans.

Sportscars also, why not. In the US they have a gas guzzler tax on sportscars as well.

Why are we talking Chevy and Ford? We aren't. That info (not only with GM and Ford) took me long enough to put up in us/metric format, anyone can add to it with brands like Honda, or Fiat, or whtever the heck else. biggrin.gif

they are just a sedan with slightly more room.

on the other hand a van is a lot more room thanx to its height.

ans speaking of africa argument. some pacific islanders are unhappy with global warming since at this rate, their island will submerge. but does the rest of the world's gov't hear anything about them? nope. the islanders are not their constituents, so even if they complain, they can't get their voice through.

Ok then, exactly what is it you need all the room for? Maybe you or your family really do need to drive a mini van every day? I don't know... most people are the only passengers in them.

it's more than just ppl and some stuffs.

with sedans, you usually have trunk space and some rooms that might be available next to you if someone is not seating.

however, with vans you get more rooms to put stuffs in(because they lack trunks and space is integrated with seats). not to mention easiblity of reasching and grabbing those stuffs. and to put some stuffs such as interiror design products, van is more useful than a sendan.

try loading a furniture or some other bulky stuffs(a la groceries). it's a lot easier with vans than sedans. more over, due to heights you can put more stuffs in should you need to stack up.

Yes ok, so for very special cases you may need a mini van.

Still a that's the least gas guzzling one of the list...

We get by with hatchbacks and sedans. My mom actually has a problematic muscle disease, and a Dodge Spirit is a really really great car for her. (to drive and use for groceries)

Maybe what American drivers need is better driver training so they are more comfortable in normal cars, as that's the main reason people buy tall cars here, to have better visibility.

I also despise all the urban tanks because they block visibility of whats going on infront, and they do not respond to blocked lanes, emergencies in time for me.

but on serious note, if you see a family with 2+kids, you will end up with vans. especailly if you are a soccermom....you not only transport your family, but you also haev to take part in variety of activities for you and your family, so van becomes a neccesity. sad.gif

Car emissions aren't really the problem, it's industry. In Canada if every vehicle was taken off of the road, tracks, air and sea we still will miss our Kyoto requirement. Clearner tech in cars is worth something, but at the same time it's the industry that really has to get cleaner, but it's hard to do. We already have the cleanest buring coal plants for electricity and to get things to the next level will take a lot of time and money.

I like my pick up. How can I fit the family of 4 that I just murdered into a Honda Civic hatchback to take to the woods and dump them into a shallow grave?

Anyways, I'll never change my SUV or pick up (I've leased a Ford Expedition for 3 years and now own a F-250) until everyone else does the same.  That includes Mr. President getting a more fuel efficient Presidential Limousine.  That thing got Run-flat, bullet-proof tires, Bullet-proof and shatter-proof glass all around. Layers of kevlar and other high-strength, blast- and bullet-proof materials under all of the car's sheetmetal from roof to under-carriage.  All this being driven by the powerful V8 engine is probably based on the General Motors 502 cubic inch marine engine block.  Any guesses on what it's MPG would be?

So until this $3.3 million dollar car gets better MPG than my F250, I ain't changing a fucking thing.

Right, back to topic I suppose. I believe the title of this thread is misleading. After all, Bush hardly knows what "environment" is.

I found this story in a norwegian newspaper and it is hardly true of course - but nevertheless it's a good joke. Please, do not interpret this as US/Bush-bashing, but something to lighten up the mood a friday night! Anyway, I almost laughed so much I almost spilled coffee on my pc!

George: Condi! Nice to see you. What's happening?

Condi: Sir, I have the report here about the new leader of China.

George: Great. Lay it on me.

Condi: Hu is the new leader of China.

George: That's what I want to know.

Condi: That's what I'm telling you.

George: That's what I'm asking you. Who is the new leader of China?

Condi: Yes.

George: I mean the fellow's name.

Condi: Hu.

George: The guy in China.

Condi: Hu.

George: The new leader of China.

Condi: Hu.

George: The Chinaman!

Condi: Hu is leading China.

George: Now whaddya' asking me for?

Condi: I'm telling you Hu is leading China.

George: Well, I'm asking you. Who is leading China?

Condi: That's the man's name.

George: That's whose name?

Condi: Yes.

George: Will you or will you not tell me the name of the new

leader of China?

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Yassir? Yassir Arafat is in China? I thought he was in the Middle East.

Condi: That's correct.

George: Then who is in China?

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Yassir is in China?

Condi: No, sir.

George: Then who is?

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Yassir?

Condi: No, sir.

George: Look, Condi. I need to know the name of the new leader of China. Get me the Secretary General of the U.N. on the phone.

Condi: Kofi?

George: No, thanks.

Condi: You want Kofi?

George: No.

Condi: You don't want Kofi.

George: No. But now that you mention it, I could use a glass of milk. And then get me the U.N.

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: Not Yassir! The guy at the U.N.

Condi: Kofi?

George: Milk! Will you please make the call?

Condi: And call who?

George: Who is the guy at the U.N?

Condi: Hu is the guy in China.

George: Will you stay out of China?!

Condi: Yes, sir.

George: And stay out of the Middle East! Just get me the guy at the U.N.

Condi: Kofi.

George: All right! With cream and two sugars. Now get on the phone.

(Condi picks up the phone.)

Condi: Rice, here.

George: Rice? Good idea. And a couple of egg rolls, too. Maybe

we should send some to the guy in China. And the Middle East. Can you get Chinese food in the Middle East?

I understand saving and conserving energy sounds noble and good. it's a good personal virtue.

but for an economy to grow - so many people can partake of the wealth created - you can't just go save. you need to spend engergy.

the reason why the US is using so much energy is because it creates about 24% of the world's wealth.

what we need to discuss is how to keep the environment clean in the energy-creation and -consumption process, but lets not demonize the consumption and creation of energy. unless you want to go amish...
